How long do you want to ignore this user?
(Nothing here you can't find elsewhere... just a little history in one place.)

* 2022 incoming class is #1 in the nation and the highest rated in school history
* The current stacked classes should put us in the position of being in a rolling 3-yr window of being able to compete at a championship level. Will we win one? Remains to be seen. lsu and especially miss-st at home were huge misfires this year.
* Trend is increasing percentage above the espn300 cutline.
* LOTS of DL starts headed out the door but an INCREDIBLE incoming DL class. ER & TP continue to knock it out of the park.
* Saying early goodbyes to some great talent from an excellent 2019 class.
* Questions
...QB? (If nothing else, Johnson answers depth crisis. Johnson for Calzada seems a good trade even up.)
...OT to complement OL anchored by Fatheree/Foster (Can unit duplicate the improvement seen from '19 to '20?)
...Lots of great prospects but BIG shoes to fill on DL
...Cover corners in addition to Chappell?
...Sure-handed receivers with a legit deep threat that is utilized? (Please let Stewart be the answer here.)
...TE replacement for Wydermyer? (Johnson late add. Good pipeline. Who will step up?)
* Tracked this last year for the 2021 Roster

I think DL will be fine but will have some drop off early as long as McKinley Jackson's legal troubles are behind him. I say this because we sub so much on Dline that we basically play a two deep. So there are several guys who have played a lot of snaps.

MicKinley Jackson looks sluggish in all his plays. Always plays like he's barred-out. Not a fan

Then you need to relook.

I think it's fairly safe to assume we will have a couple of RBs transfer and maybe a couple of WRs.

Really need a guy like Aki or Moko to step up, have a great spring, and be a day 1 solid OL.

I believe Myles Jones is actually coming back for 1 more year with a medical redshirt for this year. Right after his injury when it was announced it was season ending he tweeted "all part of gods plan" and "blessed to be here another year"

I saw him on the sidelines in uniform during games so I don't think so. He is a true freshman.

First of all, great post! Let's keep this one at the top, Ags.

Going through this list, I'm astounded how many scholarship players have been buried by younger talent and/or plagued by injuries. Just goes to show how much talent you must stockpile to win a natty. So much has transpired since we recruited these guys...

  • Will Luke Matthews and Baylor Cupp ever play an entire season?
  • Who is Kenyon Jackson???
  • At this point can we just make Derek Hunter a goal line FB, Warren Sapp style?
  • Bryan Williams -- I'm still scratching my head on this one. He was more highly-touted than Demani, but we know who won that battle. With Antonio on board now, will he become the Speedy Noil of our secondary?
  • Jordan Jefferson is still on the roster. Kenneth Phillips III still is not.
  • Will R.J. Orebo follow the path of Max Wright?

Kudos to Jimbo & Co. for keeping transfers to a relative low during his tenure. Speaks well of the locker-room culture.

Jackson is a 6'6" WR who got a little PT vs PV. Has upside w/that size. But if Craig is a hindrance to our WR play, then it may be hard for him to get on the field. Add in Coach Fisher's O decision making & it likely gets tougher.

I'm not holding my breath on Cupp & Mathews, and I'm leery on Chapman as well which would really suck.

It will be intersting to see what the post season thoughts are on Spiller & Wydermeyer. I think they finished below expectations. But we have a pretty deep RB room so maybe he goes.

I initially expected tyree to go, but now not so sure. Some of the stuff I read says he is undersized and has him on day 3 outside the big money. He could probably increase his draft stock significantly by gaining another 15 pounds.

He wasn't listed in the lsu game notes. Seems to depend what formation they start in. For example, sometimes they will list the starters with two TEs (thus Max Wright's starts) but if they only list 1 TE he doesn't get credit as a starter even though he might play the exact same role that game. The same situation also affects our LB start count. Below from lsu game notes.

McKinnley Jackson 5 Caleb Chapman 5 Aki Ogunbiyi 4 Max Wright 3 Deuce Harmon 2 Blake Trainor 2 Haynes King 2 Baylor Cupp 1 Earnest Crownover 1 Isaiah Raikes 1 Adarious Jones 1 Edgerrin Cooper 1 Brian Williams 1

Calzada to the portal. Potential of next season would have been limited if he was the starter but would have been nice depth if needed for a game or two.

Norwood to the portal. Was in the 2-deep for l$u so I would put him in the category of one of those you would not choose to go.

One thing you can say with regards to the makeup of the roster is that the qualify of the transfers is definitely going up. Norwood and Doyle have the potential to be studs. They won't be ending up at destinations like Incarnate Word like some of our transfers from years past did..

Wouldn't surprise me at all to see Jaylon Jones move up top to safety. Seems like his primary struggle has been in man coverage and he wouldn't be asked to do that much as a safety. He's got plenty of size and athletic ability.

Demani/Jones as the high safeties.
Johnson stays in his nickel spot where he has played lights out.
Deuce and Chappell at corner. Maybe Denver Harris mixes in if we land him and he turns out to be as advertised.

Could shape up pretty nice.

I'd like to be careful here but when you say "arguably one of the best" are you talking Top 10 or Top 20?

Honestly, I don't think any of those three start on any of the early to mid 90s team. I think Tyree made one all-conference team by someone but that's it. This line was very solid but I would definitely hold off on greatest DL line at A&M. The Aggies had years where most of their DL made the NFL.

And the best ever recruiting season concludes with the addition of Shemar Stewart and Jacoby Matthews.

Numbers wise I think we are at 94 which means 9 need to depart before the bulk of the 2022 class arrives in the Fall. I think there are about 12 that could go with minimal impact to the team. Also with the way the 2022 class is loaded with DL and DB there may be a few quality departures from those position groups.

* For 2023, we've already got a QB so I'd say at least two premium LBs and RB depth are needs. Of course, you should take top tier OTs any time you can get them.

from Jimbo's March 3 presser

not availabe for practice dindy, chapman, b-george, harmon, d-harris, mckinley; a-jones; hez; j-jones; MGK; stowers; ....demas (little comment - Title IX office will handle)

Foster - meetings only; Achane available but won't get hit;

DL's mentioned as possible replacements for outgoing:
Regis; d-harris; zion harris; jeudy; lucas; mowery;

Not much comment on OL other than aki beginning at tackle rather than guard.

TEs; cupp; wright; jake johnson; named both b-smith and garza

WR mentions; a-smith; moose; price; k-jackson; yulkeith; j-preston; evan stewart;

DB mentions: AJ; richardson; gilbert; anderson; kerr; not from presser but I noticed Erick Young is at Blinn so I'm guessing he has some academic rehab to do... maybe returns if successful?

LB didn't come up.

From what I understand, Williams is a great student and Aggie. Why would you compare him to Speedy Noil? The fact that you make this comparison and can't spell his name right tells me that you don't follow the football team that closely.
