Did any of you stay at the hotel on campus during FB season last year? What was the parking situation like? Was it still valet parking only? Several people in our group that sit together at games want to switch from our usual hotel to the one on campus this year.

Are any of them BIG money donors? You have to be at certain (very high) donation levels to even have the privilege of booking the on campus hotel for football game weekends.

There are two hotels on campus. The Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center has its own parking garage and it is awesome. You have in and out privileges.

Jr is correct about the conference center across from Kyle / MSC. It's great on game weekends with in / out parking. No idea what other hotel is on campus.

Yes, I'm talking about the newer hotel on campus across from Kyle/MSC. A co-worker of one of my friends told him that he stayed there for game weekends a few years ago and that parking was valet only back then and a bit of a cluster at times.

I stayed at the Texas A&M Hotel and conference center twice last year.for football games

It is awesome.

There is a parking garage attached where you can self park with in and out privileges.

You DO NOT have to be a donor or even a 12th Man Foundation member to stay there.

I can see how people might think you have to be a big $$$ Ag to stay there because it is quite pricey. At least $500/night with a two night minimum plus $30/night for parking plus the usual taxes and fees.

So, expect to drop some coin for a nice game weekend.

They also do a really cool thing where you pay $30ish and get a wristband. Then you can eat unlimited burgers, hot dogs and BBQ all day. Kinda like your own little tailgate.

Tons of pop up bars set around the hotel on gameday. TVs with other games on as well.

Nothing better than casually strolling across the street after a game and having a nice cocktail while knowing there are 100,000 people fighting traffic.

In summary, if you have the scratch, it is a great experience.

Not true, you just have to book early, it is totally the best option. Park once for the weekend and don't worry again. Walking to the Chicken just like the old days.

That all sounds great. Thanks for all of the details. I'll share with my group of friends. I'm thinking my friend's co-worker must have stayed there the first football season it was open before the parking garage was ready for hotel guests. Would explain the valet only situation he experienced.

If you don't want to do valet parking, there is a bridge between the hotel and the garage. 4th floor, IIRC, I'm sure hotel staff can tell you. Book a room on that floor if you want to minimize luggage hauling.

The other two hotels on campus are The George and Cavalry Court. Both located in Century Square. (Where the old family housing used to be.)

i hate valet parking. and while im at it, i dont think i'd pay anybody to wipe my butt either.

now, in and out privileges in a parking garage is the bomb!

It may be, but cancellations happen. I booked a room a week before my trip last year.

This isn't correct, but I understand the confusion. Donations to help pay for the Hotel construction were solicited, and those that donated have the first right to reserve a room, and their donation level determines the room. There weren't NEARLY enough donors to account for every room, so there's a lot of rooms for which no one has first dibbs on a room.

So, those who aren't donors can reserve rooms there and many do. Reserve early, as it books up fast as you might imagine.

That place used to have a "dance club" called the Sundance or some such. Like shooting fishin a barrel. Was ridiculous.

I use to perform stand-up at that hotel back in 1989-91 when they had Thursday night comedy to compete against the Holiday Inn on Texas Avenue.
My Thursday night use to be to perform the show at the Holiday Inn for dinner and $100, head over to the Hilton and do their show for $75 plus a room for the night and an open bar when they turned it into a dance club at the end of the evening.
All in all.......a pretty sweet gig.

We go down 4 or 5 times a year. Yes, rooms are very expensive for football weekends and prices are bumped of any campus activity weekend. They have daily pricing in their website. We usually go down and pay about 130 a night and enjoy the pool overlooking the Kyle Field Plaza. Stroll the campus. Walk to Northgate.

They also have a nice bar and good bar food and music.

Some rooms have wall paper of the crowd at Kyle Field. You can almost hear then cheering as you score…

Disagree on the nice bar and bar food. Both very meh for what the place is trying to promote. The bar is mismanaged and set up for pre and post game festivities. Management is not interested in trying to improve.

Word. I won a pair of flip flops there in a hula hoop contest. They use to play flies on the windscreen from Depeche Mode.

Pardon my poor opinion, but the hotel offering ear plugs to drown out the train horn is akin to a hotel offering up nose clips because it is next door to a feedlot.

It has to be an Aggie joke that we built a fancy hotel right next to a train track, right?
