I say congrats to him, he got a promotion to OC and likely a big pay bump because of that. Stuff like this is expected when you hire excellent coaches, it's a good thing imo.
This should be the EOT.

When a Position coach gets a coordinator at a historically relevant P5 school ( not all P5 schools are equal ) As a fan base we should say congratulations, point out the good things he accomplished that led to him getting this opportunity, and wish him well

Only thing I care about is keeping our players.

With the way things are now every time something gets shaken up on any staff, not just ours, I've become programmed to expect players entering the portal.

Now we have both a brand new Defensive Coordinator and a brand new Offensive Line coach to look forward to. I am sure Jimbo is working through a wealth of resumes and applications. He's working the phones. That man can talk!

This is a great time for him to do some deep diving into the current state of coaching personnel. He will get the Aggies the very best, creme of the crop.

Plus, he needs to replace that recruiter that left. Jimbo will be talking, asking questions, and listening. Coaches, recruiters and staff.

Jimbo is on a mission. He ain't done yet!

Maybe Jimbo can look into OCs too! Figure it will be proven that we need a dedicated OC after next year. The model that Jimbo hates, denies and wants to ignore but probably best for A&M football. Let Jimbo focus on his strengths which is not necessarily his offense. Truly believe it is FAR too complicated for today's game with guys hitting the transfer portal constantly. The days of these players sticking around and riding the pine for 2 years to learn a complicated offensive scheme is gone. Today's game requires some simplification so all these 5 star NILs get on the field by redshirt Freshman year. Just saying.

Henson gets to be Darrell Dickey @ USC. Well played, Josh.

Used to be we worried about which coaches to fire, and hiw that would affect our recruiting.

Now our recruiting is top notch and the world is shopping our coaches like a late night Walmart. It's Tuscaloosa West boys!

As long as our coaches are going on to bigger and better jobs/paydays, I'm not worried.

We can and will hire excellent replacements for Henson, Elko, Schmidt and Malchow.

Some people might have missed the memo that some Californian's are leaving the state. Is it worth the higher cost of living, and state income tax? Nice weather though.

I'm guessing somebody already said Sherman which I don't think he's bite since the previous AD did him pretty bad before.
I will never understand how someone can tell so many lies and not feel bad about it...

Henson wasn't that good.

Anyone who would regularly start Jahmir Johnson at LT doesn't know what they're doing.

Then when forced into a different OL for Bama we dominated only to go back away from that lineup.

The answer here is Matt Luke, $$ whip him and give him Associate HC title.

However Jimbo has Fd with Kirby so much in staff and recruits probably no way in hell we could pry Matt Luke away, but he would be my first call.

Jimbo is so well connected and so well respected I don't have any worries about hiring replacement coaches either at the coordinator or position group level. There are ALOT of high quality candidates that want to work for Jimbo on his staff, especially with our facilities, players to work with and coach, overall program, TAMU, and B/CS.

Whatever staffing hires we need to make, Jimbo will make a homerun hire.

Slam on Henson not intended. I expect Jimbo's hire to be an upgrade!

This was the biggest head scratcher to me this past year was why we didn't stick with the OL that dominated Bama. But that may have been Jimbo's decision versus Henson.

Great move for a guy who likely has HC aspirations. Get some time under Jimbo and in the SEC, go take a lower pressure OC job at a major program that will put you in the spotlight, get you more involved in game planning, a good raise, but ultimately it's the HC's offense and he calls the plays.

Thankful for his time here. He had to oversee quite the transition of OL and did it pretty well all things considered.

Kyle Flood at tu was the nation's highest paid OL coach this past season at $1mill.

Henson was 12th at $600k.

This.

His 14 consecutive Pro Bowls (9 at guard, 5 at center) tied Hall of Famer Merlin Olsen for the most ever. Matthews was also named first-team All-Pro nine times (1988-1993, 1998-2000) and All-AFC 12 seasons (1988-1993, 1995-2000). He was selected as a guard on the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 1990s.

Well, tell you what, if Henson's move was because more of coins, he is going to give it up in state income taxes, property taxes and cost of living increases. The avg price of a house in Cali is $890,000. If he buys an avg size home close to the USC campus in Marina DelRay, he's paying $1.2 million.
Peace for Ukraine!

None of that means he is a good OL coach. He has never recruited or developed a college OL. Don't think he is even a remote possibility.

No cure for stupid. Staying in or going to CA or NY, if not absolutely necessary, is inexplicable. That said, we can and will do better.

He got an OC job, he got a big enough raise to cover cost of living.

Josh Henson's departure for USC will be a big loss, but Jimbo Fisher will hire another good offensive line coach.

This. From what I've heard Jimbo definitely wasn't fond of Henson. He screwed up so much in practice last spring that Jimbo put Dickey in charge of organizing the OL's practice for a while. Not to mention I was told he screwed up with Kelvin Banks on his official and is probably the reason we didn't end up landing him.

One starting O-lineman once told me, "he's terrible but watch him try and take credit for Ken (Kenyon Green). Jimbo can't stand him." I never heard any player say anything positive about him, contrary to how they speak about all the other coaches, and it was normally pretty negative.

I'm more than fine with him leaving and I know at least a couple O-linemen are as well.

100%

Those players loved Turner (some still do) and he is a phenomenal technique coach. Won't help as much on the recruiting front but he's coached more first rounders than most so that helps.

Why didn't Jimbo fire him?

Henson was such an issue for Jimbo that Jimbo had him stay on on through signing day, travel with Jimbo/Elijah to visit Goodwin in the final week, was the primary for Bryce Foster, Dewberry, PJ Williams, Fatheree, etc and was well thought of enough to be named OC and get a massive raise at USC?

Hmmm

I have no clue regarding Henson. But I do have an opinion about Jimbo. He will know what to do.
