He must have been told that he was 2nd string once King came back. No point in playing in the bowl game, especially considering how banged up he is. Playing that game only benefits our program and he is no longer gonna be a part of it.

Best of luck to him. Bama was a great game. But Ole miss, Arky and miss state were big smh moments. Needs to improve pocket awareness and progression reading quickness.

I think some of yall need to calm down. Really doubt Zach and the team paid much attention to their critics. That would also be really petty and stupid if that was the big reason why he decided to leave. I feel like some of you think a little too highly of the forums here or lack some critical thinking skills.

Also Zach very much deserved the criticism. His lack of growth and inconsistent play was a huge detriment. Sure his receivers weren't used to catching 70mph fast balls, but they should have stepped up later in the season too. I think blame for the losses can be easily passed around.

Whether Zach read or didn't read the trash from "fans" is beside the point.

"Fans" post too much sh*t, and that's on the sh*t poster themselves, not who they are sh*ting on.

Don't excuse your own fault in posting sh*t by saying " well they should be tougher"

i feel like this is a good case of self-selection. the guy with the moxie to be "the man" wouldn't transfer away. if the decision was affected at all by the fans that would be some serious mental-weakness. i think he just accurately read the handwriting on the wall. would like to see at least a hubenak-type come in to provide a little insurance behind king/weigman.

Calzada was the Hubenak for this season.

Next season it will likely be Bost or Zach Daniel filling that role, behind King & Weigman.

Seeing the rumor about having surgery and would not be playing in the bowl game anyways. This gives him more time to talk to other teams.

I think it was pretty clear he was not going to start next year. King and Weigman fit Jimbo's offense a lot better. I see him going to a conference that is not as brutal as the SEC to see if he can stay healthy for an entire season. He barely did here and that would be every season if he was the starter.

Question is do we get another QB recruit from high school or look at the transfer portal to get someone with experience. Before the announcement I shrugged of Bo Nix but it may be worth looking into getting him for next season. He can play right away

While I don't condone any of the things calzada has had to hear from a few people over the course of the season I am 100% on board with playing the best QB. If he really Is leaving because he is losing a starting spot to a returning king or worried about Weigman than I don't know what else to say.

You either elevate your own game and take it back or leave I guess.
This is the defining characteristic of that generation. Things get hard or challenging, bail on it and go somewhere easier

Today's athletes seem to put themselves first and the team second He should have finished the season with his teammates, playing the bowl game, and then announce his intention to transfer.

I'd rather play and develop King next year (and let Weigman get mop up duty), than have Bo Nix come in for one season and not let any other qb on the roster develop.

Remember Calzada was in the top quartile of Aggie QBs available this season.

He was as good or better than some posters here.

I have that thought too but what if King goes down? I am very high on Weigman but what if King goes down again and Weigman is having a hard time with the playbook since he will be part time this spring playing baseball as well? If Stowers isn't starting the bowl game he is done playing QB for sure.

The other issue is if we go after another QB we will likely get another Calzada like recruit, a 3 star that will likely not play other than mop up duty

We need to know whether you were top quartile in med school before we can evaluate the quality of your Texags opinion.
I was in the top 10 and was chastised by my advisors for picking primary care.

He deserves better than he was given.

I don't understand why some Ags were so crappy to him.

I'm guessing King was positioned to play the Bowl game and Calzada didn't like it.

Dude gave it his all and saved our season.

This. Glad to see him go FOR HIM. Tamu has a great ability to kick mediocre QB along and push out great talent. He had a lot of potential but fisher wants to put his eggs in the King basket and everyone knows that.

King is going to be meh for a few years and then pretty good right before he leaves. Standard procedure.

I hope Calzada goes somewhere that appreciates his talent and they really work him into something great like tamu should've done.

He goes to OU and wins the Heisman by beating t.u.?

Zero chance of him being at a program like OU.

Glad he was available and stepped up. Showed great courage and determination...but always wondered whether his heart or mind was 100% into FB or A&M??? Sometimes, he just seemed "distant or somewhere else" mentally.

Wish him well and nothing but the best. He will ALWAYS be remembered for the Bama whipping!!!

This thread and many others like it a big reason why we lose good players to transfer. Calzada is good, maybe not the best we've ever had at QB but good enough to beat Bama and win a bunch of other games. Certainly didn't cost us any of the 4 we lost anymore than anyone else associated with the program.

Now all you yahoos who wanted to see King or someone else in a bowl game that doesn't mean a thing will get your wish.

A decade or two ago we probably would have been happy with him, but we're in a different place where excellent is expected and required to get us to next level.

Hope the kid does great elsewhere, he played tough.

Given the dogging he took from too many fans all year, this is what we deserve.

This is the society we have become. A 3 star QB who sacks himself on multiple occasions wants to transfer because of internet bashing. And we are to blame for losing a QB who wasn't going to play next year anyways. We also should feel bad for this. I know I won't be able to sleep tonight that's for sure.

That isn't what he said at all. He is saying the fans deserve it for bashing him. Not that he is transferring because they were bashing him.

I agree with you 100%. He gave his all. He did the best he could do and you can't ask for anything more than that. I'm sorry he got treated the way he did, by folks who are not football players, but sure can criticize.

Good luck wherever you go.
