i feel like this is a good case of self-selection. the guy with the moxie to be "the man" wouldn't transfer away. if the decision was affected at all by the fans that would be some serious mental-weakness. i think he just accurately read the handwriting on the wall. would like to see at least a hubenak-type come in to provide a little insurance behind king/weigman.

If I were him I would have at least gone through spring. He's not going to have a ton of starting QB opportunities in my opinion, and certainly not at the top level, and right now he's our starter. So see if you can keep the job. If you can't, then transfer.

I mean maybe you could go to a Temple or Texas State or someplace like that and compete for the job, but that will be there later. I would have let it play out for a little while (and I'm not necessarily being favorable to us because I'd leave us high and dry after spring or even summer which would be worse for us). I guess we will see where he goes but right now I don't get it.

I wish him well but he really needs to work on his happy feet. Dude self-sacked more times than about any D-1 QB I've ever seen.

I'm surprised by this move and wish him best of luck. I am happy he won't be our starter next year though we need a higher ceiling qb.

The guy probably wouldn't have been playing if there was anyone serviceable behind him after the Bama game where his knee got destroyed. He definitely would not have been playing if there was anyone serviceable behind him after the Auburn game where his shoulder got destroyed.

Not saying he would have been the starter next year, but I would have loved to see him back at full health. Anyone ****ting on him is an ahole of the highest order and should feel ashamed of themselves. Calzada is more of an Aggie than they will ever be.

Zach Calzada gave us everything we could have asked from him. People love winners but they don't understand the amount of effort it takes and the toll that it takes. He gave us tough, gritty efforts this season and grew to become one of my favorite players. Compare his character to that kid from OU and ask which one you'd rather play for.. for me it is Calzada all day long.

I hope nothing but the best for him. He still has a ton of room to grow to become something special. I'd love to see that growth happen under Jimbo but maybe it's not to be. I'll be rooting for him.

Really grinds my gears when players abandon their team before the season is over. I wouldn't want someone like that to be the leader of my team.

We lost the Pig and State games due to really poor QB play. If Zach had been able to play even as well as he did vs. Mizzou we win those games. In the 4 game win streak and PVAMU Zach played well (Auburn and USC) to excellent (Bama) to average (Mizzou). But overall he is not good enough and a difference maker IMHO.

I won't wish him best of luck due to the timing, just thank him for the grittiness and the Ws.

I think some of yall need to calm down. Really doubt Zach and the team paid much attention to their critics. That would also be really petty and stupid if that was the big reason why he decided to leave. I feel like some of you think a little too highly of the forums here or lack some critical thinking skills.

Also Zach very much deserved the criticism. His lack of growth and inconsistent play was a huge detriment. Sure his receivers weren't used to catching 70mph fast balls, but they should have stepped up later in the season too. I think blame for the losses can be easily passed around.

There's no point in being critical of Calzada or his play... He's a good kid, a super tough dude, and always gave his all. With his strong arm, he still has a lot of potential, and I wish he was staying with the A&M program. I'm thankful for his time here, his contributions to the team, and I wish him the best.

I don't think any injured player who is only playing because there is not another serviceable option behind him should be criticized. That's on the coach, not on the player. ****ting on one of 4-5 players since Johnny to beat Alabama because the left half of his body doesn't work is easily one of the most pathetic things I've seen on this board.

Maybe he just hates his sister and doesn't want to be at the same school as her.

I agree. He was the backup for a reason coming out of camp.

That still isn't an excuse for the way he was treated. Not a good look for us and we should be better than this.
He gave us everything he had. and we couldn't respect that?? All because he lost some close games in the hyper competitive SECW as a backup?!?!
The secondary v LSU and MSU deserves a lot of the blame in those losses. OL v Arky was pathetic. The blame can be passed around not just heaped on ZC.
