Do you people not remember when Johnny Manziel barely beat Duke mere years ago. He allegedly took Fireball shots at halftime or whatever, but. That's a good program in not a bad situation.

Lincoln Riley went to southern California for beautiful weather, much easier and deeper recruiting than Oklahoma and just needs to do as good as he did at Oklahoma to spring board to the NFL next or set himself up at USC for as long as he wants.

Elko is reaching. Hard. Haha but my guess is he would have taken a HC job after last season if it wasn't for Covid. I think Duke could 1 day be decent in the ACC, but I don't think Elko will have enough time there to really turn that team around. It would take 4 years at least to get results but if they're terrible year 1 and 2 he'll likely only get a 3rd year. Then he'll be back to DC

So, out of the 527,000 or so Ags we've graduated or degrees we've conferred, every single one of those has acted with 100% loyalty to their employer or the people they do business with. Not one Ag has ever resigned from a good employer to gain employment at a better employer and left the team high and dry. Well, I have done that, so I am the sole one out of 527,000 grads.

Elko is very familiar with the Duke program, which is just down the road from Wake Forest, where he had Top 30 defenses. So he knows the recruiting territory and the league, as well as the program Cutcliffe built. I wouldn't be surprised if salary was a lateral move at best. This is his chance to put his stamp on a program.

I'll bet when he was hired few Ags had him on their list so the main issue here is timing, though Jimbo had to have seen this coming. ESD has made the traditional coach hiring season a tricky thing. Even Jimbo was only able to partially salvage his first class.

Some of you guys need to get real. Yes, we have a real shot at a national championship or at least a play off in the next few years. But this year we were 8-4. And without this defense we wouldn't have even got to 8 wins. Dude is getting a chance to be head coach at a school that can realistically make some noise. Best thing about it is it's all up side. I don't hate on him one bit and I wish him the best. Geez we played duke a few years ago in a bowl game and it was a hell of a game.

I wished Mike Elko would a few more years before taking a head coaching job at a more competitive Power 5 school, but I wish him the best of luck. He jumped on the opportunity to become a head coach at Duke and faces a huge rebuilding project just to make Duke a respectable football team again. If Elko can lead Duke to a 3-game improvement from 3-9 to 6-6 in his first year, it would be a significant turnaround.

Yes, we played Duke 8 years ago in the 2013 Peach Bowl. Duke won the ACC Coastal Division and lost to eventual BCS Champion Florida State 45-7 in the ACC Championship Game. We trailed 38-17 at halftime before rallying for a 52-48 win over Duke. Cutcliffe led Duke to 6 bowl appearances (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2018), but he went just 10-25 (4-22 ACC) over the last 3 years. As a result, Duke fired David Cutcliffe.
