Probably shocked the memories are dying and not favored. We had NFL D talent galore.

Last several years of the 80's thru mid 90's one of our best more recent runs. Sherrill and Slocum. Took til Johnny to get more attention than them, jimbo's hiring and last year. That portion of 80's and 90's was the longest run of having a respected football team we've had in my lifetime. CFB was running and D then, low scores, big deal. Look up The Hit. Guys were brutal then.

Absolutely. Memories aren't dying, these two just don't have them. Wasn't this "don't hit the QB or it's a penalty" game like today's is.

We didn't have metrosexual penalties like today's "targeting". It was Spearing, and it was only called for flagrant offenses, not if your helmet accidently rubbed against the QB's man-bun.

Exactly correct. The penalties came in to even be able to do all that passing more easily. Got knocked out prior and was danger against the wrong team, like Sherrill and early RC years. Exciting in a different way.
