It's a darn shame the season is basically over this early. This has not been a fun week knowing it's another year with no championship.

This 1000 times. Coach Bellard had us rolling. The best we had played in decades. Ed Simmonini, Bubba Bean, Garth Ten Naple, Carl Roaches. Etc. I was at the Arkansas game. The team was spent from the tu game which should have ended our regular season. No doubt had we played Ark. when we were supposed to we stood a damn good chance getting the natty. Closest we have been since 1939.
Longest ride home I ever had.

1. Seeing our QB getting thrown around like a rag doll by a hapless Colorado Defense, only to have him knocked out of the majority of the season to be replaced by a disappointing backup.
2. Witnessing the SEC backstab us and let the sips into the conference.
3. Wondering why our 4/5 star players are getting smoked by Arky 3 stars.
4. Watching Ole Miss roll up points like crazy while our offense can barely score a TD per game.
5. Waiting for BAMA to go in dry at night at Kyle (again).

And finally, watching as we graduate a ton of NFL talent (Spiller, Wydermyer, Leal, etc.) and have to fend off the sips and OU for players in Texas who just want to play in the SEC.

P. S. All while we have upped the salary of our coach to $9M a year, instead of giving that money to our Defensive Coordinator (who deserves it more).

2011 called. They would like a word with you.

I been an Aggie fan since I was kid....Graduated in 92 at the age of 30. Now I'm older than dirt. Seen many disappointments through the years. For me it was the misplaced hype going into season. QB position was always the big question mark. Now there are several others.....But, I used to it.

I've been following the Aggies closely since the early 90s. Kinda lost them for a bit 1999-2002 during residency training which was probably for the best.

2011 was the most frustrating year. So much NFL talent on that team and we beat everyone until the 3rd quarter then just melt down. It was very annoying to see the potential and then see it lost. Then to end it with Dicker kicking that field goal after the crappy roughing penalty that did not exist.

From the wiki:

In 2011, the Aggies began as a top 10 ranked team, but fell out of the polls after losing four games, three of which had double-digit half-time leads.Three of those four losses were to teams later ranked among the top ten in the nation. On November 19, 2011, the Aggies defeated KU 61-7 and became bowl-eligible for a third straight season. Five days later, on November 24, 2011, they would lose at home to Texas by a score of 2725 on a last-second field goal, in what would be the last game of the rivalry for the foreseeable future, as the Aggies were to join the SEC beginning in 2012. It was the Aggies' sixth loss of the season, and the fifth in which they held a second-half lead of two or more scores

This years team never really showed potential so not as frustrating.

Chocolate labs was high on kool aid (maroon) and expected 15-0 and a natty. Before a down was played, having attended practice and having seen our oline horrific technique and footwork, I told him we were going to go 8-5 this season w losses at Bama, LSU, Auburn, Arky, and old miss. He howled w laughterNow that I have seen that our D will not wrap up and tackle in the first half of each game I have revised projection to 7-6.

Nothing to see here folks, TiVo the game, spend your Saturdays shooting, fishing, exercising, etc. enjoy!

Before the season, I knew we weren't going to beat Alabama and win the SEC West. I had believed the floor was 9-3 and ceiling was 11-1 and predicted a 10-2 season with losses to Alabama and LSU. I was disappointed but not surprised that we lost to Arkansas 20-10. I have adjusted my expectations. Now, I believe our floor is 7-5 (3-5 in SEC games) and ceiling is 9-3 (5-3 in SEC games). I predict we will finish 8-4 (4-4 in SEC games). I can see 3 more losses to Alabama, Ole Miss, and LSU. I just hope we win home SEC games against Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Auburn and one road SEC game at Missouri. Hopefully, we will finally beat Auburn at Kyle Field after losing home games to Auburn in 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019.

Most of you are way too young to know how bad some Aggie football seasons really were. Not disappointingly bad, but horrendously bad in every respect. I am 81 and was conceived, but not yet born, during the 1939 National Championship season. At my age, opportunities to see the next one are becoming increasingly limited as each year passes. I've followed Aggie football since the late 1940s. How about the following seasons for a worst ever list?

1948 0-9-1 Harry Stiteler's 1st year
1949 1-8-1 " " 2nd " Stiteler fired after 3rd year 7-4 record including win in Presidential Cup Bowl
1954 1-9 Bear Bryant's 1st year. He beat tu 1 in 4 times, in 1956 at Memorial Stadium,1st ever Aggie win there
1957 8-3 Bryant's 4th and final year. This makes my list because through 8 games we were 8-0 and ranked No. 1 in the US going into the Rice game. Word leaked out that Bryant was leaving and going to Alabama. We lose to Rice 7-6, then get outscored 9-7 by tu at Kyle Field, come in 2nd in SWC and finally lose 3-0 to Tennessee in the Gator Bowl. Those games could all have been won if Bryant had only used Bobby Joe Conrad to kick field goal. Conrad was HS All-State out of Clifton, TX. He played multiple positions at A&M but never attempted a field goal. Following A&M, Bobby Joe Conrad made 14 of 26 field goal attempts in 1958-60 for the NFL Chicago/St. Louis Cardinals, the longest 40 yards. Bryant apparently thought field goals "weren't football" as he attempted very few at A&M. If only...
1960 1-6-3 Jim Myers' 3rd year. My junior year at A&M
1964 1-9 Hank Foldberg's 3rd and final year

There are worse things than not making the college playoffs this year.

Bad and frustrating aren't the same, IMO.

2003 sucked, but think most realists knew we were rebuilding and would not be great (maybe not 77-0 bad, but still). 2005 was more frustrating as we were flying high from a decent 2004 and we had an experienced Reggie. But then everything went to ****. Same with 2011. Then a lot of Sumlin seasons went this way.

To be truly frustrating you need optimism going in.

No season will EVER be as frustrating as 2011. Lost 6 games, but led 5 of those 6 by double digits in the 2nd half if I'm not mistaken. Capped it off with a loss at home to tu after a B.S. personal foul penalty that extended their drive. Not sure how much time I lost off the end of my life that season, but it was a lot.

By the 3rd game it was so bad how you KNEW it was going to be another blown victory

Extremely poor conditioning by that team. They were gassed in the 3rd qtr of so many games.

1995, 1999, 2005, 2011 have been the most frustrating with regard to pre season ranking and finish.

Sumlin's teams from 2014-3016 were not highly ranked but did get to top 5 after fast starts against bad teams. Those teams had a lot of false hope and were extremely soft and had no resiliency after the first loss. 2016 could have been special if not for the Trevor Knight injury.

Both great OL an QB are needed to beat Bama, but only one of the 2 is needed to beat everyone else.

Manziel would have torched this Arkansas defense even with the average OL.

Put the 2020 OL in front of Calzada and we win by 2 TDs.

I agree. In 2013, I had expected a 10-2 regular season finish with losses to Alabama and LSU and 2nd in the SEC West. Instead, our porous defense prevented us from finishing better than 8-4 and 4th in the SEC West behind Auburn, Alabama and LSU. We allowed 31+ points 8 times and went 5-3 in those games. Even with an average defense, we could have walked into Tiger Stadium 9-1. We led Alabama 14-0 before Alabama scored 35 unanswered points to take a 35-14 lead with 12:41 left in the 3rd quarter. By contrast, we led Auburn 34-24 with 14:17 left, but Auburn outscored us 21-7 to defeat us 45-41. I can understand losing to Alabama but not to Auburn.

We were 8-2 and No. 9 before losing our last two games at LSU and Missouri to drop to 8-4 and No. 20. These consecutive road losses prevented us from posting a 2nd consecutive SEC winning record by dropping us to 4-4 in SEC games. In the Chick-fil-A Bowl, we trailed Duke 38-17 at halftime before rallying to defeat Duke 52-48 to finish 9-4 and No. 18.

Beating Auburn and Missouri in 2013 would have changed the SEC standings in 4 ways:
1. Alabama would have clinched the SEC West before a stunning 34-28 loss in the season finale because Auburn would have had 2 losses to LSU and Texas A&M before the Iron Bowl.
2. South Carolina would have won the SEC East. South Carolina and Missouri would have tied for first with a 6-2 SEC record, and South Carolina's 27-24 double overtime win at Missouri would have been the head to head tiebreaker for the SEC East division title.
3. We would have tied with Auburn for 2nd in the SEC West with a 6-2 SEC record.
4. LSU would have finished 4th in the SEC West with a 5-3 SEC record.

It's 2011 for the post R.C. era. Head coach (Sherman) fully had his players in place. Really talented team with NFL talent on both sides of the ball and at a lot of positions. Then you have all the blown leads finishing with a loss to t.u. with a classic B.S. call favoring the Longhorns, handing them the game.

Second place is 2009 where we lost every televised game. We still won 6 games which should be a reminder of how horrible the Big XII media contracts were.

This year? Not so much. I think we all knew in the back of our mind the offensive line was going to be a problem. You try to convince yourself that this time the rules of football will be different and you don't need to win the line of scrimmage to have a dominate team. Disappointing for sure, but not frustrating when it makes a lot of sense.

No, 2016 was the most frustrating season since joining the SEC. After we defeated then No. 9 5-0 Tennessee 45-38 in double overtime to improve to 6-0 (4-0 in SEC games), I had expected us to finish 10-2 with losses to Alabama and LSU, 2nd in the SEC West, and play in the Sugar Bowl. Instead, we incurred additional losses to both Mississippi Schools to finish 8-4 in the regular season and 4th in the SEC West. Subsequently, we lost to Kansas State 33-28 in the Texas Bowl to finish 8-5 after a 6-0 start.

Outside of Alabama, the SEC was so weak in 2016 that 8-4 (5-3 in SEC games) Auburn got invited to the 2017 Sugar Bowl. Both Mississippi State and Ole Miss finished 5-7 in the regular season. We were 7-1 and ranked No. 4 when we lost at then 3-5 Mississippi State 35-28 on 11/5/16. The following week, we blew a 21-6 4th quarter lead to lose to then 4-5 Ole Miss 29-28 at Kyle Field. Ole Miss followed that win with blowout losses to Vanderbilt and Mississippi State by a combined score of 93-37. Despite a 5-7 record, Mississippi State qualified for a bowl game due to their high APR score. It was confounding how we beat Auburn and Tennessee but lost to inferior Mississippi schools in back to back weeks.

what happened in 2016...perhaps similar to 2021...A&M got caught without an adequate backup QB.

Trevor got hurt in the 1st half vs. State and missed the Ole Miss game. The backup was one of those QB's...who was just good enough to keep the game close

Yes that is true. If Trevor Knight had not gotten injured, we might have have beaten both Missipppi teams, even with a poor defense. Our defense had started struggling from the Tennessee game. We allowed 684 total yards (402 passing and rushing) and 38 points. Despite 7 takeaways, including 6 in regulation, we needed two overtimes to beat Tennessee because of 3 giveaways and our porous defense. Against Mississippi State, we allowed 574 total yards (209 passing and 365 rushing) and 35 points. If not for a 93-yard punt return by Christian Kirk and missed scoring opportunities by Missipppi State, the loss would have been much worse than 35-28. Nick Fitzgerald threw two interceptions in the red zone and kicker Weston Graves missed a 32-yard field goal. Otherwise, Mississippi State probably would have scored another touchdown and two more field goals for 48 points.

2011 has to be one of the worst sports seasons for any team ever. Thing is, that really was a top 5 team - you could see their ability when they dominated really good teams for long stretches all season, and when nearly all of the same guys (not just Manziel) obliterated the SEC the following year. But they somehow managed to choke away game after game in heartbreaking fashion on their way to 6-6. You give that team the shrink from Ted Lasso and it's got a 50/50 shot at hoisting the NC trophy at the end of the year.

I know we had a very high ranking coming into this season, but let's be honest. This team was ridiculously overrated and all but the very dumbest sunshine pumpers knew it. You don't replace 4/5 OL starters, and swap a 4 year starter at qb for a fish and finish in the top 5. You just don't.
