You are correct, it's a systemic issue.
You are also correct, it's hypocritical for A&M to use a song with lyrics like that when supposedly they are about Politically Correct BS.

I would acknowledge the hypocrisy if it went any further than music being played. There is a chance that any song played has a problematic aspect. Those discussions are good for academia. But for entertainment we view it in a different context. And as of yet i know of no larger issue being taken by the population in general. Those that the intro is designed for, the team and students, love it. Maybe in 20 years they look back and have rosy glasses or white guilt. Either way, the context of usage is not offensive in this case. Your argument would be more understood if we were blaring the parts with racial slurs etc. Do you want to go down this path? Because a lot of the marches the FTAB plays i am sure have some problematic pasts. And if your point is simply the hypocrisy and implementation of current socio-political ideas and agendas then i am in full agreement. I hate hypocrisy. Yet I am not above being a hypocrite. Really? I thought it was obvious.
FWIW, before that post there was at least a possibility that the issue was more with the song and not the university doing something that hurts your feelings.
Both are valid complaints, albeit with varying degrees of needless pearl clutching.

Many posts ago I said the argument for keeping Power boils down to : it's popular so we'll overlook the racism and mysogyny in the lyrics.
Do I care if it's played as its currently played? No. But the OP, who was trolling, does have a point. And it is hypocritical for A&M to use it.

Racial slurs yes Racism not necessarily A few posts ago i said that its all nuanced context. I alluded to my views on violence and how i am able to suspend that for a few contexts and can even enjoy it in that way. Same concept. Thats what is done with any popular song. It is why Chris Brown still has millions of female fans. We're at where we are at in society. Just like we understand we dont really want to "beat the hell outta" whoever or whatever it may be, most students will say it at least once. And that's not neccessarily hypocrisy in any other way than literal definition. But i know a lot of pacifists that still yell it at the top of their lungs on game day.

Like I laugh at the "defense" of the use of a song with racism, mysogyny, and obscene language. You can't even post the lyrics on here without them being ***** out. ROTFLOL

See how it isnt necessarily hypocritical to have it in one context and fight against it in another?
If you did that gesture towards a class mate or professor during a class or somewhere else on campus and meant it that would and should get you some sort of consequence. But during a football game its fair game.
Power may as well have been written about Johnny Manziel and his career. Ive always found it fascinating that we just happened to start with that in 2012.
Im still waiting for someone out there on the net to make a definitive Manziel college highlight reel set to that song.

I understand your point, I just don't agree with it.
Beat the hell is offensive to a lot of people.
But it seems to me beating the hell outta someone would be good for them. Who wants to be filled with hell?
Otherwise, the comparison to Power is poor because beat the hell isn't racist nor mysogynist. Some people deem it offensive, and the pass-back is an offensive gesture.

Also, you still haven't explained why you are offended by use of the n-word in the song. Until you stop dodging, you aren't worth engaging with.

So why do you keep engaging?
You're not very logical in your arguments are you?
Point to where I ever said I was offended. That's a cliff you jumped off of your own accord. However, the use of racially charged and mysogynistic words is offensive. That is why I'm offended. I'm equally offended by Walker Wheeler Jr. or anything off David Allan Coe's X-rated album. It's embarrassing in polite company.
One (being the university) can't say they are all for eliminating racism and mysogyny, and simultaneously allow a song that has racist and mysogist lyrics as the entry song for one of their teams without being hypocritical.

Just so I am clear, you are not offended by the lyrics in power?
Also, can you please tell me (asked this a few times now), how the words in this song are "racially charged" and how, exactly, is the song "racist"?
I've already addressed the misogyny complaint.
(Hint, this is where you come out and say that the song is "racist" because a black person said the n-word and you can't...cause its exactly the same thing...)
One other thing...Are you trying to say that a college football game atmosphere is the same as hanging out with "polite company"?
