How's the Uber/Lyft situation there?
Also, are there any easy to get to from downtown (possibly by Uber/Lyft) climbing places? Trying to decide if I should bring my gear and if I should rent a car.

Depending on #'s, I'm told by my friends who has a place downtown that more than 4 from the airport is cheaper via Uber vs the train.

He also uses Avis downtown if needing a car. We'll do that to get to a day hike.

Is there a list of Aggie-owned restaurants? I visited an Aggfie Club page but wasn't sure of the accuracy of the info.

Red Rocks has Jimmy Buffet Thurs nite.

I'm staying about a mile west of union station and thinking about taking the train from airport to union, then uber/lyfting to the hotel. Is the train reliable and more importantly, is it worth the money saved for two people? I'm thinking just direct uber/lyft from the airport would save any headache like missing the train or something.

Well the Mexican food may be better here than in Minnesota, but that's not saying too much! Mexican food in Denver is poor to average! But I also grew up in San Antonio so I know what good mexican food taste like!

That sucks. I grew up in South Texas, and also lived in San Antonio for 3 years after high school. Prior to Minnesota I lived in Oregon for 6 years, so has been nothing but torture without tex-mex (and bbq). Was hoping thinga may be different there. Thanks for the input.

I feel your pain. Grew up in Victoria then lived in San Antonio for 8 years after graduating. Now I live in Tennessee. I miss Mexican food (Tex Mex) and Texas bbq so much. And breakfast tacos
Denver does have some great BBQ and it's only getting better.

My personal favorite is run by some Texans and is located in Highlands close to downtown. If you rent an e-bike it would be an easy ride, or just Uber. It's called Post Oak BBQ. Next door is a really cool used outdoor gear shop called FERAL. Stop in, take a look, and grab some gear.

Another option for Mexican food close to that area is Lola Coastal. It's more baja / upscale Mexican but pretty good. It next to Little Man Icecream, which is a Denver icon with the giant milk jug outside, but usually has an line of 100 people. That entire area of Denver used to be very Latino and there are lots of Mexican restaurants around. I haven't tried any, but maybe DenverAggie can chime in.

I don't live in Texas, live in Minnesota where it's horrible. Figured it has to be better than here and worth the try.
prepare to be disappointed. I lived in Denver for a few years and the mexican food absolutely sucked. And I'm not one of those "only tex-mex is good" type of weirdos either. Unless it has improved greatly in the last few years, Denver Mexican food consists of effing black olives all over bland crap. Find a carniceria that doesn't speak english and you can get some half decent tacos and some gas station in Boulder with OK breakfast burritos but that's about it. I love new mexican food as well but it seems like they forget how to make that chili as soon you cross Raton pass.

Plenty of Uber and Lyft options, and prices are hit and miss. Getting to a spot to climb would be easy, getting back will be the hard part. I'd recommend a car rental, and if you can't find one, rent a U-Haul truck for $10 + mileage.

The closest, best outdoor climbing I know of is El Dorado Canyon. Multi-pitch, and there are plenty of places in Boulder or Golden to rent gear of you don't want to bring it. I'm sure there are places near Golden where you can climb. Bent Gate is a great gear store.

What kind of climbing do you want to do? Easiest from downtown via uber/lyft would maybe be north table mountain in Golden. Although certainly not as classic as Eldo. You may see if you can find a partner with gear here or on Mountain Project and just bring shoes/harness

There's certainly that, but all the rivers in town are easy, and the flow has slowed down greatly. Places like S. Platt, Golden, and Boulder are river floats like the Comal in Texas. You can either rent a tube, or buy one from a local store and do your own floats.

Golden River Sports and Adventure West River Tube both rent tubes to float down Clear Creek in Golden. Adventure West also rents e-bikes if you want to ride around town. I'd recommend Golden City Brewing while you're there.

https://www.google.com/maps/search/tube+rental/@39.7508566,-105.2401908,14z/data=!3m1!4b1

Personally I like Golden much more than Boulder, and it's closer. Also less liberal and they don't have mask requirements right now.

If you want more legit river floats, head towards Idaho Springs. Less than 45min from Denver, and there are many rafting companies all along the way. Should be easy to get a rental since everyone went this past weekend and there shouldn't be many crowds.

https://www.google.com/maps/search/river+float/@39.7408907,-105.5317426,13.52z

If you don't want to pay for a rental car, there are a number of low-cost options for transportation:
  • Epic Mountain Shuttle
  • Bustang Bus

The cost for a round trip ticket from Union Station to Idaho Springs shouldn't be much more than $15. It's a little slow, but you get a nice view and there's free WiFi, and might save you time vs. finding a rental car.

So I think someone already mentioned it, but if you aren't renting a car best way to get to downtown (other than uber) is the A Train from the airport and takes you to Union Station downtown (few blocks over from Coors Field, and thankfully two blocks from my hotel). Cost is $10.50, takes 37 mins (23 miles), and leaves every 15 mins before 6:00 pm, and every 30 mins after 6:00 pm. Seems like the way to go.

Totally agree. Just plan ahead when you need to catch your flight home. From point A outside the city to the airport, you'll be waiting here and there for the train. That adds up to about 1hr 45min for me to go from the Arvada station to the airport. Comparing to Uber now, and it's a 9min wait, 40min drive, and $42.

Anything off Blake Street or Larmier downtown are great for sports bars and good beers, but Highlands is close as well:
* Blake Street Tavern
* Larmier Beer Hall
* Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
* Jackson's Lodo
* Leo's Sports Bar
* Post Oak BBQ
* British Bulldog
* Viewhouse

For Mexican food, the wife and I like Hacienda Colorado. It is on the south side of town off I-25 in Parker (nice area).

Buckley Space Force Base is in Aurora, and you should be able to see the "golf ball" antennas if you look to the east. It is home to space-based missile warning and an F-16 unit.

Not sure if Aggie owned but owner is from College Station and sister may have gone to A&M (something like that).

I have family members who have been and have raved about it.

It's in Stanley Marketplace which is very cool, lots of cool/good stuff in there. If happen to be in that area hit it up. Denver Biscuit Company has a location in it.

Are you interested in climbing Torrey's Peak via Kelso Ridge Route early on Sunday? A Class 3 route, but no ropes needed.

For Aggies coming in for this game, I do not recommend Blake Street / LoDo, Stanley Marketplace, Mexican food, or BBQ.

See my prior reply in this post for can't go wrong places based on age group.

Easiest answer for where to go after the game is Avanti Food & Beverage in LoHi (Lower Highlands). It's a quick Uber from the stadium, safe, with great views, atmosphere, and a wide variety of quality food and drinks. Walk up the hill (South) to Little Man Ice Cream or several bars after dinner.
