I guess you don't remember the whole 3/5ths part of the constitution...

You're ignorant to the "whole 3/5th" intent. Be smarter and educate yourself.

Wow, so ignorant of history... 3/5 was an anti-slavery movement. It acknowledged African Americans as value, as people. The true racists considered them no differently than a horse or some other material object. Leading African American Freemen reviewed the Constitution and saw it at progress and an anti-slavery document disguised so that it could get ratified in the south

You're the one who is ignorant, along with most of the other posts on this board. The southern states were advocating they be counted as whole person so they could increase their representation in the government.
Any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still know where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with.

Okay, what do we need to improve on?
Everyone has their own opinion on this and none are wrong but if you are asking me mine, then I believe its education. America has fallen behind in this area relative to a lot of other 1st world western civilizations. I think higher education cures a lot of the issues we argue over today. If racism is truly real in America then education solves racism. If racism is not real then we will still end up with a more educated population and there are no negative benefits to that.

"Race prejudice has unfortunately become an American tradition which is uncritically handed down from one generation to the next. The only remedies are enlightenment and education. This is a slow and painstaking process in which all right-thinking people should take part." -Albert Einstein
OMG... What in hell are you talking about??? Higher Education? The problem is, you and others ,think the problem is racism. Let me say this again more directly. There is no systemic racism in this country. In fact it's the exact opposite. Our institutions bend over backwards to give special accommodation to black people. Ignoring the causes of the real problem which is, why over the last 60 years, despite spending billions of dollars and sweeping changes in public policy, have things not improved for many blacks. Demonstrated by high poverty rate, high crime (both perp and victim), low education, high incarceration rates, disproportionate run ins with LE, high murder rate at the hands of other blacks.... and the list goes on. Again it is not racism.

It is the dissolution of the family unit! Until we are able to address and fix it these problems will continue. And by the way, maybe you don't know, BLM is out calling for the opposite. So don't tell me the answer lies in higher education. What... somehow, understanding Calculus or writing a desertification is going to improve any of this? So I'm sorry. Please forgive me if I get a little irritated when athletes hold up BLM and it's stated objectives as some kind of solution to a very real problem. So go on thinking the problem is racism and it will not be fixed or improved upon for another 60 years.

And that's all I have to say about that.
Did you even read what I wrote? I litterally said we needed better education in the country and, that whether or not racism is a "thing", higher quality education solves that. If racism isn't a thing then you end up with a more educated population. What about that triggered you?

Is this not the equivalency of the LIBS seeking to include illegal aliens in the census in order to increase the individual state's representation in congress? Again, to have their Congressioal representation increased due to the presence of illegal aliens within the State.

It's amazing how Democrats continue to be on the side of misrepresentation.

Are you trying to say the point of the Civil War was to end racism? Did racism end in 1865? This statement is just silly.
The civil war made slavery illegal in the united states with the 15th amendment.

the 19th amdendment addressed the voting issue for black men

The civil rights act addressed institutional issues

No nation on earth has done as much.

Well, to be fair, when our constitution was adopted the country allowed and benefited greatly from slavery. Not just slavery in the pure sense of owning workers, but slavery based on race. The constitution addressed some aspects of it originally and did not even talk about its end. However, in the genius of our founders there is the amendment process that allow our constitution to become better. While i think statements like this go to far, there is truth to it. We need to own that. However, I would also contend that the great constitution we have affords the greatest opportunity for true equal rights on this planet.

You appear to make a valid criticism about the census count, but let me remind you and everyone else that it is a straw man argument designed to perpetuate inequity.

Directly from census.gov:

" Your community benefits the most when the census counts everyone. When you respond to the census, you help your community gets its fair share of the more than $675 billion per year in federal funds spent on schools, hospitals, roads, public works and other vital programs."

This is why liberals support counting undocumented citizens. And the reason you do not support it is because you are worried about the weight of your own votes, presumably to continue to perpetuate inequity.

Too many are Sunday Christians now that hide behind fundamentalist ideology, yet can't practice the lessons taught by the Bible. We are all products of a culture of some sort, and we are all God's children, so give this politics driven by the 2 Parties it's deserving end the Trash. If most weren't so blind they would see the tactic of both is to divide to get votes and elected, not anything about building a better America. You are validating my point tbd867, they (the current day Democrats) want to count illegal aliens as full citizens in all states (especially California, New York, Texas, Arizona, etc,) in order to maintain/gain power.

Now apply this to the 3/5 rule, the Southern Democrats (during the slave State period) wanted to count the slaves as one (1) person in the census to give the Southern States more power (they wanted them as slaves, but wanted to count them as equal citizens). HOWEVER, the northern States (Republicans) only conceded to 3/5. Free slaves and/or free blacks were counted as one (1) in all areas of the US.

Only citizens should be counted (in my humble opinion) as the illegal aliens are exactly what they are--present in the US illegally--NOT US CITIZENS.

This thread is funny.

I'm over it all. Let overpaid people stand on their pedestals and scream, i really don't care.

Why doesn't every single one of those black players give 90% of their millions to programs in the inner cities? That may do a little help. Until they do that, I could not care less.

There's hope for TexAgs yet.

A lot of this country should quit playing the roles of political shills and recognize the games being played on both sides. Be able to think for yourself but try to respect or at least understand the perspectives of others even if you don't agree given your own personal experiences. Cut back on watching your CNN, Fox News or whatever news channel that spews political bull**** that only strives to emotionally engage their audience with anger/fear/resentment to keep eyes on their program. 24 hour news TV is more akin to pro wrestling these days than actually serving as an informative source for the population but some people latch onto that stuff as 'reality'.

Both sides seem to think the other is conspiring to somehow ruin or doom our nation which creates more and more extremists in both directions. The truth is when both sides break down and fail to work together, we all suffer and are bound for failure as a whole. If you won't or can't understand that, whether you're right or left, then in my opinion you are contributing to the problem. The cycle continues and we become more and more divided as a nation.

Gig em Ags and come together instead of turning on each other.

Sorry fellas. Tanny's right. They just didn't call it racism back then. It's okay to call out our nation's ugly past. Still the greatest country.

Founding Fathers predicted slavery would be an issue in the future, but when one is trying to get 13 colonies to all agree, you can't piss off almost half of them.

In addition, what did they really mean with the notion that "all men are created equal" (only if you were white, male, and owned land)? I contend it is an ideal that we are striving to achieve, but our founders would never make this notion a reality in their lifetimes. Blacks, the poor, and women having equal rights would have been preposterous.

Gee it sure seems reasonable to want to count people's votes. Who was going to cast those votes for the slaves though?

You're describing a scenario where we omit undocumented residents* just to keep votes on your side, and ignoring the disparate impact it will have on communities with substantial undocumented populations. That's Texas btw. Our roads and hospitals and police departments are going to get defunded and ****ed up because you want to cling to power.
