We fought the bloodiest war in our history to right those wrongs. Reperations were paid in both Northern and Southern blood.

We changed our constituion to fix the racial injustices of the past. We changed it again when democrats refused to accept it and instituted laws to keep black americans down.

There is not a single country in the world that isn't guilty of slavery at some point in thier history, but the United States has done more than any country in history to fix that mistake.

And now it seems people like Tannehill and his BLM brothers want to take us back to segregation and hatred.

He has the right to think what he wants, but none of these men have been to Libya, Somalia, China, France, Italy, or Spain and seen what it is like in those nations as a black person.

We can't compare ourselves to countries who are bad and say "well we are better than them". We have to fix what the country thinks is wrong in the pursuit of continually getting better. We can't measure this issue on a relative basis.

Do you agree with the statement that "America is founded on racist ideals?"

Not that there was and is racism in America but that it was founded on racism?

If you believe that this country was founded on racism then how, in your opinion, is racism dealt with and corrected in this country without breaking up the very foundation of the nation; the Constitution and the framework it has created?

If the foundation is flawed how do you fix the problem without fixing the foundation?

At it's core, the statement Tannehill is making is a statement that calls for the destruction of America and replacing it with something else. The words are subtle, but the meaning is clear.

If you or I was a convicted felon, - , beat our girlfriend, violated a restraining order, had the cops called on us, resisted arrest, would not be subdued after an attempt to be tazed, disobeyed orders of the cops trying to arrest us by going to our vehicle to get a weapon before being shot by the cops...

...it wouldn't have even made the national news.

But if it happens to one, cities have to burn and millionaires will refuse to play their games. They're not heroes for speaking out. If they were heroes, they'd enter police academy and become cops and show us how to enforce the law more "fairly."

I'm sorry but this statement is in no way founded on facts or stats. I have multiple doctors on in my family and they actually all lean right. That's just odd to say that the left cares more about people than the right? Did you make up this assertion in your head or did you read that somewhere?

There's that word again, systemic racism. What laws are systemically targeting people based on the color of their skin?

And to make it A&M related, since we have a bunch of people complaining about systemic racism here, what policies does A&M have that systemically target someone based on the color of their skin?
Yes. And decades of crime statistics and social science don't support that either. In fact if shows the opposite.

True, but how would you have gotten around it? The northern states didn't want slaves recognized at all in the population ... the southern slave states wanted slaves to be counted as people in the census. It was all about political power in terms of Congressional representation in the early Congress and both sides were well entrenched. How would you have broken the deadlock in the founding of the nation?

Racist and sexist ideals. The constitution can be amended you know that right? Just like it was to allow people of color and women the right to vote. The very fact that when this country was founded it did not include rights for women or people of color is by nature being founded on racist ideals. Good thing that the constitution is a living and breathing document that can be changed so we don't have to destroy the foundation.

Not for nothing, but this is inaccurate. I mean, apart from tone, your argument has merit. But, just double check your facts. The "child rapist" part was the result of misapplication of a Rhode Island statute to a Wisconsin case.

Here's the actual WI statute:

(3) Third degree sexual assault.

(a) Whoever has sexual intercourse with a person without the consent of that person is guilty of a Class G felony.

I mean, it's still rape, but the warrant/charges come from his adult girlfriend and not a child. And he was charged, not convicted, so there is that. Just keeping facts straight.

And...we're back...
Life's an endless party, not a punch card.

Since the Southern States were willing to go along with the 3/5 compromise which also led to a greater tax burden on those states, you could have split the representatives based on their percentage of the overall tax burden.

I ran the numbers and it isn't far off from the number of reps today. Texas still gets 36. California gets 58 vs. 52 but there are a number of states that would need to get at least one so this may balance out a little closer.

Viewing the past in a vacuum absent of historical context is pointless. Those two issues have long been addressed. I'll say it the forum again, there has never been a time and place in history where more opportunity has been afford to more people irrespective of race, sex, religion.... Why is it that Nigerian immigrants don't seem to have these same racial injustices? Fact is they come here and flourish.... some for other minorities. That is the question BLM should be asking.

A Census, though, is a fairly straight forward method. Trying to link Congressional apportionment to economic statistics would be a muddled mess of dueling economic experts and accounting tricks. Linking political representation to tax burden could have had an interesting domino effect on voting rights over time.

100 percent agree. Which I part of what I was inferring in my post. Those things have been addressed because the constitution is a living breathing and changeable document. So no need to tear it up like some people are saying. However, because we are a land of opportunity and we are great doesnt mean that we cant work to be even better than we currently are. There is clearly something in this country that needs to be done in order to bring both sides together. To sit back and say things are good how they are right now... i just dont see it.

Please explain to me where the USA has not made the efforts to create an equal playing field for all races and creeds to achieve success and the American Dream? I would put forth that there has actually been too much done which has created an entitlement mentality/attitude among many.
How are minorities not treated as equals? Actually they are treated with more "equity" than are whites in today's society. Special programs for everything from academics to financing to housing to even sports. I mean why are whites not represented equally/proportionately in sports?
I believe most of the whining, rioting, looting, etc, is a direct result of poor family values (white and black), and an attitude that this group of citizens ids "entitled" to everything without putting in the hard work it takes to acquire it legally.
Stop feeling sorry for yourselves- you live in the greatest country ever created on this planet. Stop committing crime and you will not be arrested. Stop resisting arrest and you will not be shot.Stop doing/selling drugs and get up in the morning and go to a real job (they are everywhere for everyone)- you will not have to worry about getting arrested or being broke.

It's ironic that counting slaves as a whole person is what the slave holding South wanted for political electoral power in 1787 when this compromise was reached.

Slavery is still a real thing in several parts of the world, but none of our oh so smart athletes care about that.

And none of them care about deprivation of human rights in China, because they gotsa get paid.

Over 600,000 Americans died on native soil in the Civil War. Some estimates are much higher. More than all other US war fatalities combined. But that's not enough for rich, spoiled, celebrities and athletes who have been coddled and sucked up to since they were teenagers. We've put athletes on much too high a pedestal for far too long.

Racist and sexist ideals.

I am interested in knowing the racist and sexist ideals in the founding document of our nation.

Here is a transcript of the document according to the National Archives ... please show us the racism and sexism

https://www.archives.gov/founding-docs/constitution-transcript#toc-article-vii-

Of course .... no society is perfect, human are a flawed creation so there are examples of racism and sexism in our history. We are like every other nation on earth, regardless of their ideas, in that regard. But the founding document of our nation is pretty solid overall.

Now a transcript of the Bill of Rights ... same question ... examples of racism and sexism:

https://www.archives.gov/founding-docs/bill-of-rights-transcript

I'd argue that the foundation of this nation is very solid and about of devoid of sexism and racism as one could ever expect in that or any era.

I do agree that our history is not all that pretty at times. Such is the nature of man ... again ... we are a flawed creation. But the foundation, I'd argue, is the best humanity has created in the history of mankind.
