Didn't Greg Sankey state they will make a decision on whether to have football this fall by July 17th?
So, if that is right, we will know for sure in 16 days.

30 LSU players tested positive according to the Eagle . We done.
I'm twice the age of a college athlete and testing positive does not guarantee you will get sick.

Three weeks ago at work, six people who I was within six feet at some point of all tested positive.

none got sick
none had even a sniffle, cough, nor trace of fever
my whole team was sent home and told to get tested
none of the five of us ever felt sick, had fever
all five of us tested negative

I heard from friends in the medical field that they have been sending in unused sterile swabs with fake patient information and having the tests come back positive. Don't believe what you hear on the news. The data is manufactured for effect.

Good grief. Fauci needs a muzzle.
Local school board is deciding whether or not to make kids wear masks at school. Wife shared it and asked what people thought. One of the moms responded with this!

Here's how I think requiring masks might work in elementary.

Please don't snap Billy's mask in his face.
Your mask is not a necklace, bracelet, or any other form of jewelry.
You should not be using your mask as a slingshot. Please put it back on your face.
Please do not chew on your mask.
Your mask should be on your face, not on the back of your head
I'm sorry your mask is wet, but that's what happens when you lick the inside of it.
I'm sorry you sneezed. Here's a tissue. Wipe out the snot as well as you can.
No, you may not blow your nose in your mask.
Why is your mask soaking wet? You just came back from the bathroom?
And you put it back on your face after you dropped it?
I'm sorry you broke the elastic on your mask by seeing how far the band would stretch. Now you'll have to hold the mask on your face ... or use this duct tape.
Please take the mask off your eyes and watch where you're walking. I don't care if you have X-ray vision.
Please take the mask off of your pencil and stop twirling it.
I know the mask fits over your pants like a knee pad, but please take it off of your leg and put it on your face.
What do you mean you tried to eat your lunch through your mask?
Please don't share your mask or trade masks. I don't care if you like Ingrid's mask better than yours.
I'm sorry, but your mask is not school appropriate.
We're not comparing our masks to other kids' masks everyone's mask is unique and special.
No, you may not decorate your mask instead of doing your work. I don't care if you have a Sharpie.
You're not a pirate, please take your mask off your eye.
Try to get the gum off as much as you can.
Please don't use your mask to pick your nose.
I'm sorry you tripped, but that's what happens when you put your feet inside the elastic of your mask.
No, your mask doesn't make it hard to get your work done.
Your Mom will need to get you a new mask since you chewed a hole in that one.
Why is there a shoe print on your mask?
No, you cannot eat the snow through your mask.
I don't care if you were in art class and being creative; we do not decorate our masks.
We do not beam other kids in the face with balls. No, their masks don't make it not hurt.
Please don't plug your nose holes with your mask.
Who's making that noise?
I'm sorry your ponytail is stuck, that's what happens when you see how many times you can wrap it around your mask.
I'm sorry to tell you, but your child thought her mask made her a superhero. She tried to fly off the jungle gym at recess
I'm sorry your breath stinks in your mask, maybe we should all try to brush better.
Please take those cookies out of your mask. No, you are not a chipmunk.

The TV money is too rich. There will be SEC football. If half the team tests positive, the coach will be told to do the best he can with the other half.

Wearing masks is one part of a series of things that need to be done to allow the economy to open. Masks are the easiest, but we also need a lot of testing and we need contact tracing. Had this government taken this seriously, implemented a strategy and encouraged mask wearing from the start we most likely would be in the same position as most of Europe right now. Instead we counted on a miracle or summer heat or strong winds to make it go away, people are more concerned with their rights than their responsibilities and now all of the sacrifice made over the last four months is wasted as we have more cases than ever and no end in sight. Luckily the medical community is learning how to treat people with COVID patients better and keep them alive. What isn't reported as much is the number of patients that live but have permanent organ damage, how it is now effecting the neurological systems of young children and how it has morphed and is easier to spread but not as potent but will cause hospitalization rates to increase. That will make treating patients difficult if we do not slow the spread.

Bunch of selfish and ignorant people in this country, the same ones protesting to open the economy are the same ones that wont wear a mask.

Preseason Workouts Provide Frightening Preview for Colleges. In recent weeks, universities across the country have conducted an unplanned experiment on whether students can return to campus this fall, using football players and other athletes reporting for voluntary workouts as guinea pigs. It hasn't gone well.

The University of Texas at Austin had 13 student-athletes test positive for Covid-19. At Louisiana State University, 30 playersabout a quarter of the football teamwent into quarantine after some of them hit local bars. And the University of South Carolina reported 79 new cases among students in a recent eight-day stretch, but won't say whether athletes have been infected.

"Students are going to be returning to parties, there are going to be all sorts of things," said Dr. Carlos Del Rio, an infectious disease expert at Emory University School of Medicine. "As long as those things happen you can do whatever you want to test people, but people are going to get infected.

Coach:
Have enjoyed your posts for years - always well thought and appropriately, and respectfully critical. I will try and mirror that approach in my reply. =)

In short, yes - because of the flu. But this is not because the flu poses any more risk than any other year, but mind you that there are hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations in the US each year due to the flu. Rather, the primary concern presented by Dr. F is a hospital capacity problem. If we enter into a second wave (because the bump we are seeing now is an extension of our first wave - we never successfully suppressed it for a prolonged time), and those COVID patients lead to maximum utilization of ICU beds (as they are in hot spots), and THEN flu season comes, there are likely to be many hundreds of thousands of people who get the flu, who need additional care, and OTHERWISE would be just fine. But if there are no beds for them (because COVID), then flu-based fatalities are likely to be higher.

So no, we are not shutting down sports because of the flu, and I know you weren't being literal. However, our healthcare system is not equipped for peak flu season AND peak of a second wave of COVID. THAT is the potential kick in the nuts.

Our testing still sucks, but the concern isn't as much about false positives, its the false negatives, which are still at 20-38% depending on the study. A false positive means you stay home for 14 days when you didnt need to, but false negative means that you potentially pass it to friends, parents, siblings. This is of course not helpful when we are trying to get a "true" measure of the incidence of the disease.

Now, there certainly a lot of maybes, could bes, and ifs. But that is how preventive medicine works, and unfortunately one way to get ahead of something like this (outside of widespread tracing and contact tracing) - reducing unnecessary social exposures. Unfortunately, there are several examples of areas that did not heed social distancing guidelines early on, because COVID "wasn't a problem" that are now seeing nasty outbreaks.

Sweet. Did you pull that off a motivational poster somewhere?

If it's not real, or really not that bad (like Texags says), then these entities shouldn't have any realIstic liability concerns.
And your leaders would be sharing all their answers from their infinite wisdom.

But neither of those are happening. Maybe because it's very real, and very concerning, and they're still trying to figure things out?

Well I know a couple of Doctors in downtown Houston and the numbers being reported about overcrowded icu beds are misleading as he said most icu beds being used currently are not covid19 related. Only about 20 percent are covod patients. Then the news sees that there are full beds and blames it all on covid. Another friend who works downtown in the labs working on possible treatments told me that they talk behind the scenes and all believe the virus is too perfectly made to attack humans to not have been helped along in a lab setting. They also cannot publicly comment on the virus as they have been threatened of blacklisting. We live in a mess of a world these days people.

Yes the deaths from Covid lag the infection rate by a couple weeks for obvious reasons. This is grade school stuff my dude.

Wednesday, South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster warned that he will not lift a state ban on spectator sports, "if these numbers continue to rise and the danger persists."

"I can't do it. I won't do it," McMaster said. "This fall will not be like other falls. We will not be able to have college football. We will not be able to have high school football."

3a) Masks effectiveness (not talking about v500 of guidance they put out but initial)
3b) Our inconsistency in stating mask work but still having group size restrictions....

Total deaths in the USA from all causes are not up. Fear in a fight or flight situation can be a good thing. Paralyzing fear is a terrible thing. I am astounded by the level of paralyzing fear. Life is short and full of risks. Death is certain. I am 72. I choose to live fully while alive. I will be at Kyle this season if allowed. I respect the decisions by others, but don't impose them on me. Hopefully the Texas Supreme Court decision will follow that of the Illinois court.

I live in SC and listened live to the presser from which your quote was copy/pasted, and the way you've pasted it here is misleading.

It's not "false", but "misleading", like so SO many things on the internet are....

What you did not include in your post was what he went on to say. You made it sound as if he has "declared" that there will be no football in the state this fall.

But I think I'll leave it at that. My hope in doing so is that someone may actually take the time to look up the transcription of his presser for themselves, instead of seeing whatever version I decide to copy/paste which could, again, mislead someone.
