An est. 68 MILLION Americans, including 19 MILLION Black Children, have been killed in the WOMB since 1973-act, pray and vote accordingly.

Mond has blown it. He is not an Aggie no matter what he now says or does in the future. He and his buddies have not been relevant their entire careers in spite of all the help and support they have been given. They are not entitled to the universal vote to call a shot about a memorial to a man who was one its early presidents and led the school in its early years. He helped students and saved AMC during difficult financial times. The statue is for that purpose.

If the administration cannot solve this problem now, and I do not mean after some task force has studied the matter, then the administrators all the way to the board of regents should resign for they have surely failed.

Task forces, committees, etc are for incompetent people who cannot manage or administer. It takes courage to lead and I am sorry to state that TAMU does not have much of that in its managerial ranks.

if Mond wants to be a politician, go for it.

If he wants to go to the NFL, he never was and never will. Not the talent required nor the intelligence. A smart man would focus on his position and play the game.

Being involved in a stupid protest against a bronze statue shows he doesn't have what it takes to be a NFL talent.

10 years from now, TexAgs will interview him about his ?

Sully is celebrated because of what he did for the University.

This is not celebrating a confederate soldier or a slave owner. People go to war and do terrible things. It's what war is.

Robert E Lee on a horse in confederate uniform is one thing.

Sul Ross being recognized for saving the university is something completely different.

Makes no difference if you went to UT or not...this probably applies to all schools that are faced with this same situation.

Dear President Hartzell,

Yesterday ESPN reported that you have agreed to meet with student groups to discuss the demands of many of the football players which resulted from some unwise actions taken by the athletic department to encourage the students to join a spurious political movement. I don't know whether these meetings are intended to patronize the black athletes in an attempt to continue the recruiting of gifted athletes, or whether the University is endorsing the fallacious movement being generated by socialistic, anti-American forces, or a combination of the two. If it is patronizing, you are showing a lack of principle and if it is supporting a spurious movement, you show a lack of leadership.

I am 81 years old and a 1961 UT graduate. Throughout my lifetime, I have experienced the full spectrum of segregation to full integration in our society. The University of Texas does not have a systemic racial problem. It is your job to teach the students to think for themselves, consider the facts, and not be enticed into following such movements.

It has been easy to ignore the liberal practices of the University in the past, but this issue may be the last straw. I assure you that a significant majority of the 500,000 Ex-Students do not share this liberalism and are far more conservative. You do not represent fairly the alumni nor the people of Texas if concessions are made following the players' demands.

Society has done tremendous things to assist the black community (affirmative action, the voting rights acts, public housing, social support networks, prohibitions against discrimination, etc.) We have come to the point where, in most cases, the deck is slanted towards the blacks in creating opportunities. That is fine. But society can't do everything. We do have racism in our state, but it also resides within the black community not solely the Caucasian or Hispanic communities. This current, highly emotionalized and factually inaccurate movement is counterproductive, will generate more divisiveness and also destroy the progress made in integration up to now. It is being fomented by socialistic groups that are using the blacks as pawns. It is regrettable that the University has accepted this movement. If black athletes really want to improve the general situation for the black community, they should work within themselves. They need to personify responsibility, suggest productive ideas instead of threatening with demands, and truly understand that respect must be earned and not demanded.

We should not have ill-informed, inexperienced and highly emotional students dictating that the University change our history, traditions and customs. If the students are unwilling to accept University as it is, they are free to attend elsewhere. The University of Texas does not need any particular athlete, nor do we even need an athletic department. The University should be larger than that and its executives should take a principled stand and provide leadership to the people of Texas, its students and alumni by looking at facts and pointing out the illegitimacy of the movement.

Personally, I have extensively supported the University financially, and I currently have 5 UT scholarship students, two of which are full ride. I am worried that these students, who enter the University as well-rounded people with extensive abilities, will be negatively influenced by the University. I do not enjoy enabling the University to convert them to socialists before they graduate. I am especially concerned about one black scholarship student who will be in the football program next year. He is a very impressive young man who is currently color blind and aspires to be a doctor. I hope that the athletic department doesn't negatively affect this young man. My other scholarship recipients this year are Asian, Hispanic and Caucasian. I am not worried about them because they are going to Rice, A&M and Harvard.

Fortunately, there is still a state university, Texas A&M, which fairly represents the values of the majority of the citizens of Texas. I am sure A&M will welcome any future funds that should have gone to the University of Texas.

I, and all the alumni I have talked to, are watching carefully how the University handles this situation. When you were promoted to your current position, you probably never envisioned that the Eyes of Texas would be upon you on a matter such as this. I wish you courage in your endeavors and hope that you can change minds instead of settling for political expediency.

Sincerely,

Bill L. Stanley

There is a good chance the current movement is going to break academia.

With the funding that I predict is about to get cut by donors of many schools, it may very well help break the progressive stranglehold on institutions.

For grins - substitute Mond with Sul Ross.

You see, as much as I am trying to give Sul Ross and his involvement in the Civil War and Texas Rangers, particularly his fabrication about the so-called Battle of Pease River ** a fair hearing. - You guys are not open minded about the concerns of Texas A&M students. Just your own narrow understanding.

** Ranger Hiram B. Rogers, a true participant in the assault, summarized the incident in this laconic statement: "I was in the Pease River fight, but I am not very proud of it. That was not a battle at all, but just a killing of squaws." - "Review of Myth, Memory, and Massacre: The Pease River Capture of Cynthia Ann Parker by Paul H. Carlson and Tom Crum" (2012).

Mr. Pablo,

A current "group" of students do not have the authority, status, position, etc. to make a substantive change as you are suggesting.

A far better way is to build a new future, a new memorial for a cause, a person, etc. who is worthy. Please make your nomination and the justification.

Sul Ross did what he was suppose to do and his assignment at TAMU in its early days are the cause for his statue. Using your standard and method and any current future group can erase, change, revise history as they may feel at the time. That will destroy the very entity you want to use to push your cause. Your cause will not be safe and subject to being torn down.

Yea, I don't think your friend really knows what he's talking about. If that were true then we wouldn't see such a disparity between the enrollment percentage of African American's and the percentage of the state population.

What part is incorrect, 18?

I'm sure there are many factors that determine why the enrollment % is less than the state % for aftrican American, and those are separate and independent of those mentioned by Houstonag.

A better analysis would be the % of African American high school students who are in the top 15% of their class and compare that to the enrollment %.

You seem to be confusing equal opportunities and equal outcomes. Blacks have equal opportunities (actually there are many racist policies that BENEFIT blacks).

Also, the fact that blacks do have a higher percentage of people at lower income levels plays a part. ALL races at lower income levels will have a tougher time moving up in society. That is NOT racism. People at lower income levels can move up in society. Some races have tended to be better at it than others because of their culture. Look at the Asian community.

Is the NBA racist against whites and Asians. The NBA has a disproportionate number of black players. With your thought process, it couldn't possibly be any other factors other than racism.

The Aggie network is a powerful tool that has made A&M the most wealthy athletic department in the country and is a huge assist for life for all who are good Aggies.
Most players and administrators understood that they wanted it in their corner not opposing them as it is a powerful group either way. QB1 and the AD Dork, decided to disparage the Aggie network as they assumed that they could overcome it with their platform and position. They will forever struggle to overcome the reality that the Aggie network is now set against them in everything they do.
