But on the other hand, why are we, as a fan base, the most pro-conference in the SEC (and by a wide margin)? I do think it's pretty lame that some fanboys derive their self worth from other programs' success.
I disagree with that premise. Most fans of SEC school football teams root for the conference when there's not a specific reason not to do so.

I want to see 4-5 SEC teams in the Top 10 every year....7-8 in the Top 25....and then see us as the lone undefeated SEC team after the conference championship game. I don't need other SEC teams to become weaker so we can somehow "emerge" as a great team. That accomplishment will be so much sweeter with a super strong SEC. I don't understand OP's position at all.
I deduce from this post that the poster LOVED our just completed 7-5 regular season.

I've not seen proof that this is true. Nearly every time I meet fans of other SEC teams, we spend most of our time comparing which SEC teams we mutually despise. Invariably, Alabama tops the list.

Sure, Fisher wants Alabama and LSU to win so they will have a great recruiting class and get all the publicity.
You can't be that naive.
So you want to be the tallest midget. I get it but it says a lot about you. I aspire to be the biggest giant, but that's just me.

You should pull for tu, it's worked well for them.

Let's be real here. You are a fan of an SEC team. You are not the team. You do not aspire to be the giant. You simply wish to root for a team that you imagine to be a giant.

That's kind of my point. You may hate Bama, but are you really wishing for the demise of Florida, Auburn, UGA, MSU, and all other SEC teams?

Feel free to do so, rooting for the SEC does nothing to help our program. Not only is it counter intuitive to what our goals, it reeks of desperation to be relevant. Time to start rooting for ourselves and against our enemies.

We are all in the same conference pulling for one another because everyone else not belonging to the SEC wants to see us fail to give their conference opportunities. Do i want Tennessee to have the best facilities and all other SEC schools to have the worst immaginable? Thats selfish isn't it?
We rise together for the benefit of all or wish the worst for our comrades because we can't have success due to our own efforts and hope we can have success fall in our laps due to failure of others. Have you thought about trying to join a division III conference so you can have an advantage over everyone else? Same type of thinking that the Texas Longhorns have. You trying to be like them?

If you consider your fellow conference mates as enemies who is responsible for all that cash that is flowing in, the national coverage you are getting and your stadium expansion? Its not due to A&M but A&M being a member of the SEC. You would never have had this without the SEC. We would never have what we have without being in the SEC and the competition to keep up with other SEC schools....known as the arms race.

The attitude of wishing for your SEC brethren to fail is the same as hoping for a demise come upon your brothers and sisters so you will be the only one to be the benefactor of your parents will. Same principle.

You deduce wrong, amigo. This season was very disappointing to me. However, when we do win it all I'd like to see us take down several top 10 SEC teams.

JFF gets some credit, but still blue star! Some fools must realize that we tied our destiny to the SEC. The SEC took us out from the sip shadow. The SEC ensured that we dont have to play sip politics anymore.

Seems there are some here wishing we were still in the b12 so we can have a better shot at "success" playing weaker foes.

Let's be really real here. We are talking about a mentality of success to rise above the competition as opposed to hoping for their demise so we can "look" better. One is for sustained success and the other is merely a mirage.

Kind of like what you have in the bdf.

I think the majority of Bama fans will be pulling for LSU. They certainly don't love Clemson. They'll for sure get another crack at LSU next year. Will be nice for them to redeem themselves against the reigning national champ LSU.

Fisher wants all the SEC teams to win, so that beating them will make our victory that much more impressive.

Otherwise, you just want us to be back in the BDF, where everyone hates everyone else, they make less money and their conference victories against weak teams are meaningless.

Is that hard to understand?

I used to root for SEC teams this time of the year, but now I don't understand why I or anyone here would root for our rivals to win during bowl season or at all? We should be doing entirely the exact opposite.

After all, its in the best of our interests for our direct competitors Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Ga, & Florida to lose BIG and continue losing. Why wouldn't we want any of these programs to go down like Nebraska, Miami, or Tennessee did?

I don't know why I used to care how our conference did in bowl season, just to have something to show of to the sips. I hope we're the only top program from the SEC who wins unless they're playing the sips.
You miss the point. You are advocating a mentality of mediocrity - the BDF mentality. You want to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond?

We want to be a perennial power -- we need to compete and measure ourselves against the very best. We don't want a weaker conference that doesn't win their bowl games. We have been there and we don't want to go back.

Partially correct IMO. Never root for LSU or Ark....unless playing tu or ou.

We get money when the teams play in bowl games, not win them.

Alabama and LSU benefit when A&M is down. We should want them to be down so we can benefit.

Aggies hate Mack Brown but he was smart enough to know a strategy to get to two championship games and win one. Part of that is benefiting from when conference-mates are down.

The BCS regime fostered weaker conference mates. And the sips also had the unequal revenue distributions to keep the lesser programs down. It was part of the plan for the easiest (and cowardly) path to the BCS title game. In fact, in the first years of the BCS, strength of schedule was a factor in the BCS rankings. Then that factor was removed in later years. Doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out why.

Exactly. Being the tallest midget in a crap league doesn't work too well under the CFP system. It did under the BCS, though and the "easiest path to the championship game."

Explains why the Sooners are 0-4 in play-off games, too.
Meanwhile Clemson is playing for the title again...

The ACC had ten bowl eligible teams, eleven if you count Notre Dame. They aren't exactly what I would call a crap league.

ETA: 4-5 in bowls with 2 games to go. 5-5 in bowls with Notre Dame with 2 to go.

Why? Because I'd rather be the Aggies, middle-of-the-road in best conference in the universe than OU, on top of the dumpster fire that is the Big12.

I don't blindly support sec schools for sure. For example this bowl season:
A&M - obvious
Miss St - state for sure
LSU - LSU for sure, Burrows is fun to watch and OU sucks like Baylor but in a different way
Bama - both teams are hated so a slight edge to bama because they are less dewshy
Auburn - Minnesota because they were the Cinderella story (LOL, Baylor you played crap teams)
UGA - dogs for sure since rapers suck
UK - don't really care
UF - would have great to see UVA beat them, way too arrogant

NC game - probably Clemson because eff LSU

Succeed so that we are always playing against the best to be the best. I support our conference and the victories over other conferences because that enables talk of 2 SEC teams in the playoff while other conferences, cough Big 12, may no longer even have their best in the playoffs after years of failure.

I disagree. I have die hard Bama fans in my family and they're thinking that LSU has to beat Clemson to help justify Bama's loss to LSU.
