I disagree with that premise. Most fans of SEC school football teams root for the conference when there's not a specific reason not to do so.levypantsEOY said:
But on the other hand, why are we, as a fan base, the most pro-conference in the SEC (and by a wide margin)? I do think it's pretty lame that some fanboys derive their self worth from other programs' success.

I've not seen proof that this is true. Nearly every time I meet fans of other SEC teams, we spend most of our time comparing which SEC teams we mutually despise. Invariably, Alabama tops the list.GigEmTx said:I disagree with that premise. So you want to be the tallest midget. I get it but it says a lot about you. I aspire to be the biggest giant, but that's just me.ashley said:
Sure, Fisher wants Alabama and LSU to win so they will have a great recruiting class and get all the publicity.
You can't be that naive.

Let's be real here. You are a fan of an SEC team. You are not the team. You do not aspire to be the giant. You simply wish to root for a team that you imagine to be a giant.RGLAG85 said:So you want to be the tallest midget. I get it but it says a lot about you. You should pull for tu, it's worked well for them.
You are a sip. That's real.Quote:

That's kind of my point. You may hate Bama, but are you really wishing for the demise of Florida, Auburn, UGA, MSU, and all other SEC teams?8T2 said:I've not seen proof that this is true. Feel free to do so, rooting for the SEC does nothing to help our program. Not only is it counter intuitive to what our goals, it reeks of desperation to be relevant. Time to start rooting for ourselves and against our enemies.

You deduce wrong, amigo. This season was very disappointing to me. However, when we do win it all I'd like to see us take down several top 10 SEC teams.8T2 said:I deduce from this post that the poster LOVED our just completed 7-5 regular season.JimboFFisher said:

We are all in the same conference pulling for one another because everyone else not belonging to the SEC wants to see us fail to give their conference opportunities...who is responsible for all that cash that is flowing in, the national coverage you are getting and your stadium expansion? Its not due to A&M but A&M being a member of the SEC. You would never have had this without the SEC. We would never have what we have without being in the SEC and the competition to keep up with other SEC schools....known as the arms race.
Let's be really real here. We are talking about a mentality of success to rise above the competition as opposed to hoping for their demise so we can "look" better. One is for sustained success and the other is merely a mirage.8T2 said:Let's be real here. You are a fan of an SEC team. You are not the team. You do not aspire to be the giant. I think the majority of Bama fans will be pulling for LSU. They certainly don't love Clemson. They'll for sure get another crack at LSU next year. Will be nice for them to redeem themselves against the reigning national champ LSU.DrZ said:
Do you guys think Bama fans are hoping LSU wins the championship?
There is no way. This all for one stuff is strong in the bottom half of the best conference. Top half not so much.
Fisher wants all the SEC teams to win, so that beating them will make our victory that much more impressive.ashley said:

You miss the point. You are advocating a mentality of mediocrity - the BDF mentality. You want to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond?CptnTight said:
I used to root for SEC teams this time of the year, but now I don't understand why I or anyone here would root for our rivals to win during bowl season or at all? We should be doing entirely the exact opposite.
After all, its in the best of our interests for our direct competitors Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Ga, & Florida to lose BIG and continue losing. Why wouldn't we want any of these programs to go down like Nebraska, Miami, or Tennessee did?
I don't know why I used to care how our conference did in bowl season, just to have something to show of to the sips. I hope we're the only top program from the SEC who wins unless they're playing the sips.
Partially correct IMO. Never root for LSU or Ark....unless playing tu or ou.CptnTight said:

The BCS regime fostered weaker conference mates. And the sips also had the unequal revenue distributions to keep the lesser programs down. It was part of the plan for the easiest (and cowardly) path to the BCS title game. In fact, in the first years of the BCS, strength of schedule was a factor in the BCS rankings. Then that factor was removed in later years. Doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out why.Quote:
Aggies hate Mack Brown but he was smart enough to know a strategy to get to two championship games and win one. Part of that is benefiting from when conference-mates are down.
Meanwhile Clemson is playing for the title again...aggiehawg said:Exactly. Being the tallest midget in a crap league doesn't work too well under the CFP system. It did under the BCS, though and the "easiest path to the championship game."Wildcat said:
You can't pound your chest over the toughest division in football, then act like you want the conference to lose ooc games.
Explains why the Sooners are 0-4 in play-off games, too.

I don't blindly support sec schools for sure. For example this bowl season:
A&M - obvious
Miss St - state for sure
LSU - LSU for sure, Burrows is fun to watch and OU sucks like Baylor but in a different way
Bama - both teams are hated so a slight edge to bama because they are less dewshy
Auburn - Minnesota because they were the Cinderella story (LOL, Baylor you played crap teams)
UGA - dogs for sure since rapers suck
UK - don't really care
UF - would have great to see UVA beat them, way too arrogant
NC game - probably Clemson because eff LSU
I disagree. I have die hard Bama fans in my family and they're thinking that LSU has to beat Clemson to help justify Bama's loss to LSU.DrZ said:
