Root for whoever you want. It's not like your support makes a difference in the outcome of the games.

We don't need it, it's a short term gain. You don't see it helping the low-mid tier teams in the SEC. It's nice and all, but in the long run its best for us to have as many SEC teams free fall like Michigan Miami or sips
Good grief! That's so naive. SEC $$$$$$$ pay for facilities, better coaches, resulting in better recruiting and a huge disparity in the amount of NFL talent produced by the league as a whole.

Programs rise an fall on coaching hires. Make a bad one or two in a row, they get in a hole. Miss State wasn't exactly crap when Mullen was there. Ole Miss wasn't crap when Freeze was there. Arkansas wasn't crap when Petrino was there.

You want SEC teams to win in the regular season. The Bowl Payouts are the same, win or lose.

Disney bought the SEC TV contract, so we're driving with the Mouse anyway.

Obviously, some don't get the financial implication of the conference winning!

Exactly. Being the tallest midget in a crap league doesn't work too well under the CFP system. It did under the BCS, though and the "easiest path to the championship game."

Explains why the Sooners are 0-4 in play-off games, too.

I wish we were 0 and ANYTHING in playoff games.

I want to see 4-5 SEC teams in the Top 10 every year....7-8 in the Top 25....and then see us as the lone undefeated SEC team after the conference championship game. I don't need other SEC teams to become weaker so we can somehow "emerge" as a great team. That accomplishment will be so much sweeter with a super strong SEC. I don't understand OP's position at all.

If you ask akmost every one of our recruits, they say they want to play in the best conference against the best competition.

If that were really true, then virtually no ACC, Big 10 or Big 12 school, at least ones not named Clemson, Ohio State, and MAYBE OU and t.u., would ever win any recruiting battles against any top half SEC school.

You can think that if you want, but it isn't really their top priority.

That's a romantic notion. In reality, the likelihood of us emerging and doing something meaningful on a national scale is higher when our conference mates are not as strong.

To put it in a different way: would you care if A&M won a national championship in a year when the SEC was considered the weakest P5? Most here would not.

If you listen to recruit interviews many echo and say exactly what he claimed. Every last one? Nope, but many.

Respectfully,

The SEC is more than just football. Look at the strength of the conference across the board in both men and women programs.

Football and basketball pay the bills and help develop entire programs. A new social media SEC contract will continue to build programs and continue the separation of SEC schools from their peers nationwide.

Florida is very good across the board. There is no reason that A&M can't be just as good or better.

This is why we all should encourage the continue to development of all SEC schools.

Some of you might like to read up on bowl revenue sources and disbursements. It's interesting reading. Bowls are a big-money industry. Even Arkansas and Vandy will get a big chunk of bowl $'s from the SEC.

I used to root for SEC teams this time of the year, but now I don't understand why I or anyone here would root for our rivals to win during bowl season or at all? We should be doing entirely the exact opposite.

After all, its in the best of our interests for our direct competitors Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Ga, & Florida to lose BIG and continue losing. Why wouldn't we want any of these programs to go down like Nebraska, Miami, or Tennessee did?

I don't know why I used to care how our conference did in bowl season, just to have something to show of to the sips. I hope we're the only top program from the SEC who wins unless they're playing the sips.

I have been saying this for years. Why should we want our competition to win so they can recruit better than we do?

Really? I wouldn't.

Then again I have a different perspective since I've watched the SEC for 23 years, thanks to The Hubs. The SEC games were nearly always better games than most in the Big XII, particularly in the later years of the Big XII when Osborne left Nebraska and Neuheisel was fired from Colorado, and the era of the Purple Wizard was begun.

I well remember the sentiments about RC and Fran's bowl game records after good seasons, when competitiveness against the higher cream of the crop of other conferences were the opponents.

Steel sharpens steel. We won the Big XII in 1998. Think we would have stood a chance in hell against either Tennessee or Florida State? (We had already lost to Florida State that year.)

I will grant that game day coaching can make the difference when a Boise State defeats an Oklahoma or an Appy State beats a Michigan or Troy defeats LSU. But my point is that it is the grind of every week, not the one off that makes the caliber of a national championship level team.

I'd rather have the Ags to have proved their mettle by earning the spot...the hard way and be ready instead of backing into it and not be ready.

My .02. No offense intended, sweetie.

I hate LSU and will never root for them against anyone, unless they play the sips. But otherwise find myself pulling for our league as i think their victories reflect better on our program.

But on the other hand, why are we, as a fan base, the most pro-conference in the SEC (and by a wide margin)? I do think it's pretty lame that some fanboys derive their self worth from other programs' success.

Unless you're certain a particular program is going to spiral into Nothing-Land, it makes no sense to hope they lose a game

LSU losing the national championship game, do you think that truly hurts their recruiting? No

Auburn losing to Oregon early on the season doesn't significantly change what they do as a program over a 3 or 4 year period.

You want all these guys to win and then beat them when the lights come on

The SEC gets the best recruits by far because even the lower tier teams put players in the NFL at a high rate. That's why the SEC TV contract just went from $55 million to over $300 million. All that money is evenly split among the SEC schools, by the way. Burning down the bigger houses in your neighborhood doesn't bring additional value to your house, it drops the value.

You can wish to be the big fish in a small pond if you'd like - I just want the Aggies to compete on the highest level and that's in the SEC and nowhere else.
