Obviously. It's still humans picking teams, which will always be flawed. Thankfully less flawed now that there are 4 teams, but still flawed.

That's why, while no one will want to hear it, having auto bid for the 5 conference winners (or 4 since The big 12 sucks ass), and adding in a few choices by the committee is the right way to do it. It is, and always will be, a popularity contest. At least until it becomes more objective.

Would still love to see super conferences with 4 pods. Champion of each small pod goes into a conference playoff. Whoever comes out in top in conference plays in the CFP. But "that's too many games" and blah blah blah

I was literally just about to post about the rig job that is the CFP Committee.

I'm happy Bama lost, but there is no way Wisconsin, PSU, and Florida are better 10-2 teams. Bama lost by a combined 8 points to LSU and Auburn.

I also have a feeling the CFP Commitee is setting up OU to jump Utah. They have over ranked Baylor and will argue OU's last game against Baylor was better than Utah's last game against Oregon. This is predetermined and is sickening.

Can we just rank teams based on Sagarin! Dude has been doing this for years. If Vegas trusts him, so do I.

Yup... the real competition is getting those votes. It's a shame.

Set the parameters to get into the playoffs, and let the teams settle it on the field. This voting BS is a farce.

There is absolutely a clear agenda to keep Ohio State at #1 all for the sake of "muh eye test," and I guess to knock the SEC down a notch.

LSU is the best team in the nation, based on resume, offense, schedule, eye test, etc. They would've beaten every single one of Ohio St.'s opponents by a larger margin of victory than the buckeyes have. I guess the committee is holding LSU's lack of dominant defense against them that much.

Question:

Considering how their season played out and the lack of respect shown Bama by the CFP Committee, how much will this weaken Saban's recruiting in the near future?

The best way to do it, IMO, is to have the 5 P5 champions have an auto bid with the 6th spot going to the best G5 champion. Give #1 and 2 a bye and let 3/6 (#1 gets winner) & 4/5 (#2 gets winner) play. No more crying about a conference getting left out or another getting 2. You also shut up the G5 guys who just say "we want a shot." Well, you get a shot. Also, this will force teams like ND, BYU, etc to join a damn conference.

Or, you could only rank 1 & 2 and publish prior to the season starting every scenario of what the match ups would look like if say the SEC and B1G are #1 and 2, with ACC playing G5 and BDF playing Pac, with winner of ACC/G5 getting B1G. It takes rankings completely out of it, outside of 2 teams.

The way tge committee has moved, if LSU destroys Georgia they may move back to 1

There isn't a worthy 4 seed this year. They should just roll with 3

Going to motivate him even more.

This was after a 2 play 87 yard TD drive to go up by 59...

I personally don't agree with dropping Bama as far as they did, but I don't necessarily think it was Big10 bias. I think it was more the selection committee saying Bama is, in their eyes, not the same team without Tua and can't be ranked as such.

I wonder if anyone on the committee is thinking that because LSU will have such a big home-field advantage if they make championship game maybe they should give them a more difficult semifinal match up?

If we are working under the theory this is all rigged, that's certainly something they would think of

I'm ok with that too. I ultimately like the pods because the smaller pools keep a team with an early season loss (like 2012) from being able to stay in contention, but anything to get it away from subjectivity is fine by me. And the very first year of the CFP where Ohio state rolled through after no one though they had a chance is enough to prove the CFP rankings aren't great. You obviously have to rank the auto bids, but a good team can get past not earning the bye week.

Question. If this was pre-playoff, do you think, assuming OSU,LSU, and Clemson all win their conference championship game, defending champions Clemson would be left out of the National Championship? My husband and I were discussing it last night. Obviously a moot point since we do have the playoff, but do you think their current ranking would be different if it was just 2 teams selected instead of 4?

I have to admit, I have not watched Utah enough to gauge how good they are.But I can imagine that no matter how terrible the PAC is, representatives from that conference will moan about never having a team in the playoff since its inception.

For me, in an ideal situation, Georgia pulls off a win against LSU and the playoff is set. Since that is highly unlikely without their best receiver and Swift, its comes down to OU, Baylor and Utah. If Utah loses the committee gets an out regardless. If they win, then once again we have a debate about expansion to 8, etc. etc.

Edit: As corrected by posters below, I forgot about UW & Oregon.

No, just making it like every other sport where there's a clear playoff path and bringing it in line with the NCAA Tournament.

I was in favor of keeping Ohio State above LSU until this past week. It's close, but LSU appears to be better at this point.

Huh? Oregon was in the very first CFP and Washington was in the 2016 playoffs. Oregon lost to Ohio State in the championship game.

Also, Utah is legit and their defense is one of the, if not the best in college football.

here is my solution. Use the old BCS system to determine the final 4 teams. That way you eliminate any personal bias, and you use simply statistics.

I don't know how you make this claim. If you look at most of Ohio State's games, they were over after 1Q or 2Q. Instead of running up 70 points on everyone they backed off. And they still killed everyone.

The good news is that I see them facing off for the NC, so we'll get to see who is better.
