Yes, no doubt scholarship numbers in track and other similar sports are limited due to Title nine.

The value of an Aggie ring for a guy like this should not be overlooked.

My grandson may play for TAMU and I just told him to walk on and do not worry about a scholarship.

The other consideration in track recruiting is how earlier they will go pro. Someone is probably already in his ear about going pro ahead of the olympics. Running that time in high school or freshman year in college gets the shoe companies knocking on the door.

He's one of my best friends much younger half brother. So crazy he's all over the news. I knew this kid when he was a baby.
My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who saw Ferris pass-out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.

There is always a scholarship available for a kid like this.

This is someone that would warrant a full scholarship on any team in the country.

A quick look at his times... he has the #1 time in the nation in the 100, the #2 time in the nation in the 200, and a solid time in the 400. He is #2 in the nation in the long jump.

So basically he would be a national champion contender in three individual events, would certainly be an asset to a 4x100 relay and could likely contribute to a 4x400 relay.

It is almost impossible for an individual athlete to contribute more than that.

This year he also has a 20.54 200m and a 46.15 400. In the jumps he has a 6'7" HJ and 26'3.5 long jump. He is incredible.
Not meaning to take anything away from this kid because Jeremy Wariner was all-world talent, but Jeremy Wariner's HS times crush these easily.
Well, Wariner ran a better 400 (45.57) and barely ran a better 200 (20.41) in high school. But Wariner never broke 10.0 in the 100 meters and Boling is focusing on the 100 and 200 this year. I'd say Boling has a slight edge over Wariner overall at this point in his career. Plus state meet is this weekend. No telling what Boling will do.

Boling hasn't even run the 400 meters this year. There is no doubt he would be in the 45's.

Set a new high school national record (with a legal wind) to win state in the 100m

Also won the long jump too

He had a good leg of the 4x100, but his team was DQ'd for a zone violation

3:10.6. I'd love to what he ran his leg in. I'm guessing 45.0 or better.

His anchor leg was 44.7

Which would have won the 400m by almost 2 seconds

44.7s would have been a new national record in the 400m also.

Was lucky enough to be there and that 4x400 anchor was electric. Probably one of coolest things I have witnessed in sports.

You don't get a running start in the relay either

Edit: that's not to say a leg in the relay is the same as running the 400m, but the difference is pretty small. Whereas a running start would give a pretty big difference.

That's a very fast 400m leg, however you slice it.

But I wouldn't get too caught up in comparing it to the 400m.

They get like a slow three steps while looking backwards start. That's not a running start and not much better than coming out of blocks.

You might want to run that by your local track coach.

Wrong.

In the 4X100, yes

In the 4X400, no.

Of course it is better than coming out of the blocks. If I remember correctly, the exchange zone is 20 meters. A moving start (running or "like a slow three steps), and getting the baton within the 20 meter exchange zone (so running less than 400 meters) just isn't the same as the 400 meter race.

Agree with most but exchange is before start/finish line so it's not less than 400.
30wedge
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I should have said "potentially" running less than 400m, because I think the exchange zone is 10m before to 10m after, but I might be confusing that with other relays, it has been so long ago we used mastodon leg bones for batons

Agree with most but the only leg running less than 400 is the anchor.
Well the discussion was Boling's anchor time versus a straight 400 time.
