Kinda like why I wanted the Texas Bowl instead; in our backyard and we would have sold more tickets...location, location, location.
and yep again. There's a very good reason why A&M is always in the running for the Texas Bowl

We were never considered for the Texas bowl this year and have only played their once since joining the sec

interesting looking at the Gator Bowl attendance the last 3 years:

2018 --> 38k
2017 ---> 41k
2016 ---> 43k

the bowl has struggled since the ACC started providing the SEC's opponent.

they need to get the B1G back as a partner

that's true. Perhaps another way to say it...A&M, LSU, and Arkansas are always at the top of the Texas Bowl's wish list every year.

the Texas Bowl suffers when it doesn't get one of those (and the Big 12 opponent is not the sips).

they will be pulling hard for Chad Morris' to get things turned around in Fayetteville next year

That also coincides with the game moving to New Year's Eve (was played on NYD for several years). From what I can tell, local support for this bowl game is really poor compared to some other bowls. When the competing teams get offered great sideline seats, that tells you that they don't have a local ticket base to prop attendance like the Cotton Bowl, or even the Texas Bowl.

I thought it was an OK showing for our fans under the circumstances.

Was at the game and surprised at how many more NCState fans were there. Many on the A&M side, at least in the sections around ours, were locals who'd come out for the game and Cole Swindell concert. If Ags don't travel better in the future, we can't complain when the SEC assigns us to the Texas Bowl. While JAX is not the destination Tampa or Orlando are, they do put on a good bowl.

It's in Jacksonville on New Year's Eve and an uninspiring opponent. They're lucky they got as many people to show as they did.

Playing the game on New Year's Eve doesn't help with attendance.

And no, Ben didn't say anything incorrect. He does go out of his way to find the negative with A&M. With the way the Aggies played on the field he had to dig deep. Pretty transparent. Starting a conversation about banning BEVO from the sidelines after the trainers lost control of the steer yesterday would be the equivalent. Ignoring what happened on the field because you don't like the result on the field. He is basically a troll and that is it.

We won 52-13, finished with a 9-4 record and possibly a Top 15 ranking, and we're upset about the crowd size?

Thought about going. We have enough airline miles and hotel points to have made it a free trip. I figured the place would be packed and overpriced so I didn't look into tickets

The Outback Bowl in Tampa (much sexier destination) had around 40,000 with Mississippi State and Iowa. Kentucky's Blue Mist fan base traveled well to Orlando, and almost sold out the Citrus Bowl against Penn State. With the exception of Clemson, Virginia Tech and FSU, ACC teams don't travel well. Too many basketball schools. I think we did a good job, especially considering how few flights there are into Jacksonville. Tampa, Orlando and Miami are much easier to get to.

The non New Years Six bowls need to look at their pricing structure. It's hard to justify some of these ticket prices for games people are not excited about. Looking at the attendance numbers it looks like that the Cotton Bowl did not sell out, but I am not sure if that is the case. I saw tons of empty seats at the Fiesta and I don't think that the Peach Bowl sold out. Also I see there is not near the demand for the Championship Game, but a lot of that is due to having two southern teams playing in the Bay Area on a Monday night.

In the old days Jacksonville had two big football games a year, the Gator Bowl and Georgia-Florida. Now with the NFL it's more difficult to get the locals to buy tickets to see two teams that they don't care about. I saw that the Texas Bowl sold "Family Fun Packs" for their upper deck seats. With so many of these games have bad kickoff times set by the networks, perhaps the competing teams' fans should get a break.

Hopefully next year we will be in New Years Six game (Dallas, NOLA or Miami) so we won't have to worry about bowl game destination.

Bowl attendance is on the decline. It's been a trend... for a while.
McInnis80

When regular season attendance is down why would you expect bowl attendance to be any different? As long as TV drives the bus I doubt it will be different.

Scalped our club level seats for $55. Wife took our daughter to the bathroom during the 2nd quarter. She said a bunch of State fans were at the bar in the club. I don't get why you'd go down there and not watch it, but whatever. Point is I'm sure A&M had fans doing the same thing

Hmm. I know of a Jack B****** who is a current student (son of a friend from high school). There can't be too many, right? From his mom's Facebook pics, it looks like he is as redass as they get (he's in Aggie gear in about every pic of him, pics of student bonfire, pics from away games, etc.), so I doubt an intentional troll. Based on the user name, I doubt Jack is OP.

Plane tickets were like $800+ per ticket. Not worth a trip to Jax on NYE IMO.

Not a great showing.

But all non NYD6 and non CFP bowls are suffering from WHOCARES-itis. Hard to care with 1000 bowls and few compelling match-ups.

Any word on TV ratings?

I saw Sugar Bowl was up 28% from last time it was not CFP Semi in 2016.

I haven't seen numbers, but with the game being New Year's Eve prime time, they had to be atrocious. Not many could have been watching except our fans (and even then only those who didn't have pre-existing plans) and both NC State fans who were not at the game.

Lots of sip dumb*sses were posting about attendance.

Hey tools, when we went to the Sugar Bowl in 1999 it was packed to the rafters. Your bowl game had entire sections empty and tickets were available on stub hub for $15.

Have in laws who live in Jacksonville who bought 8 - 10 tickets each year for 15 years, went with neighbors to tailgate and experience a football atmosphere as this was all they had. All moved on to Jags tickets, dropped the bowl tickets. There is very little interest in the Gator bowl from locals.

EVERY single bowl game had oodles of empty seats, many in prime (between the 20s) locations.

The bowl format is not working nearly as well since the college football championship came into being

I live in Waco and the bears are crowing about how great attendance was for the Texas Bowl. 51,104.(which by the way is the 3rd LOWEST attendance in the Texas Bowl's 13 year history, and 18,560 less than the average of the previous 4 years when the games had Big12 - SEC tie ins) While that is more than a lot of bowls, there are certainly special circumstances for the Texas Bowl.

First, Big12sports.com reported on November 15 that there were over 20,000 local season ticket holders. That same article reported that over 50,000 tickets had been sold before teams were announced. (Dec 3rd, two and a half weeks later). Sports Illustrated reported on the 2008 Texas Bowl, when Western Michigan had to purchase 11,000 full price tickets but could only sell 548, and had a net loss of $462,535.00 BEFORE looking at travel expenses.

My question is this: If there were over 20,000 Houston area season ticket holders, over 50,000 tickets sold weeks before anyone knew which teams would play, and if each team had to sell 11,000 tickets on their own,
HOW IN THE HELL DID THEY ONLY HAVE AN ATTENDANCE OF 51,104?
