Place was near George Bush/Wellborn and used Velveeta cheese on everything. Worst Tex Mex I've ever had.

Yeah they had a location in Bryan and then opened one up where Loupots and Double Dave's used to be. Now Tex Ags is in that area. Always enjoyed that place when I lived in town.

Hit up Chuy's, it was really good and what I was looking for. I get tons of really good taco shops where I live, so really just craved so sloppy good Tex mex.

Jose's is also very solid Mexican food, another Monterrey family. Plain atmosphere but good food and their Margaritas are very good.

Here's a second for Jose's. I have fond memories of taking my now wife on dates there. They're super friendly and the food is good.

Best is the steaming, greasy plate of enchiladas with lots of cheese and onions and a guacamole salad. You can get'em down at the LaSalle Hotel in old downtown with iced tea and a waitress (and she will smile every time).

Chuys is hardcore white people tex mex. **** food **** service. Lupe tortilla probably best tex mex sit down in cstat

With so many great authentic taquerias in Bryan.. why Goto Chuys ot Lupe Tortilla?
If you want to say atmosphere .. then fine , you have a leg to stand on.
If we're talking straight quality food, it's not even a conversation.

Can you sit on this old porch while eating?

I like the post by the whiz who says Chuy's is "white people" Tex-Mex, then directs you to LUPE TORTILLA instead. Guess it's more authentic "white people" Tex-Mex? Ever BEEN to a Lupe Tortilla?

Some day, btw, I hope my kids can grow up in a nation where the color of their skin is not used to imply something bad or inferior. Especially when it's "OK" to do that with only ONE skin color.

LUPE TORTILLA? Oui, tres authentique, c'est la Tex-Mex pour vous!

Polly's cocina used to be Mi cocina and yes they are now next to a gas station on Rock Prairie and Wellborn. They are a GREAT hole in the wall restaurant and Polly is super sweet. Their fajitas are so good and their salsa is really good as well. Try it if you never have.

I love how everyone is a food critic these days and "too good" for places like Chuy's.

Yeah, I wish we had more people that hated Chuys so we wouldn't have to wait 20 minutes for a table when we go.

I fully recognize that Chuys is a chain that serves generic (and good) Tex-Mex but that jalapeno ranch sauce is addictive. I'd go all-in for best condiment with that stuff.

Yes. It's called Casa Rod.

I don't care for Chuys either. I always feel like crap after eating there.

It's not lost on me that I am posting in this thread.

This is the answer
Again don't go here looking for atmosphere and sip on margaritas dressed with umbrellas.
But if you want good solid Texmex can't beat places like this.

Mi peublito, raspa El payasito, and El Sol are the best authentic Mexican restaurants in town! Tio is a great hole in the wall, literally, if you have time to wait.

Tex Mex, well you can always go to chuys or Ninfas. I second the Wednesday special for drinks.

We used to love to go to Casa Rod, but the last 4 times we went there it's been terrible. Hour plus wait time for food on a normal/moderate busy night (before the students came back!). Slow wait staff, food came out messed up or cold. Something has changed and it's not for the better.
