Watching the replay - side judge George Liotus makes an out of bounds call using his flag and bean bag.

Then the Head linesman, Steve Clein, enters the frame emphatically waving his arms above his head.
(Waving arms above head is the sIgnal for "Touchback")

Clein says something to Liotus and Liotus begins waving his arms above his head as well.

Steve Clein is an Florida State grad...No lie

I'm not worried about the call, it was not necessarily an easy one to make on the field. What gets me is that "replay" wasn't able to see that it didn't go out past the pylon !

The ONLY valid ANNUAL goal for ALL Aggie Sports is a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!

Why not just put a camera in the pylon looking up at the sky? Wouldn't that take care of all off this in the future?

Just a couple of things to clear up. Waving both hands overhead is the signal to stop the clock. The bean is to be dropped to mark where possession of the ball was lost not to mark where it went out of bounds. And it was the sidejudge who should have made the call. But they still botched the call in my opinion. Carry on.

WOW, bias confirmed by the ref. The ENTIRE problem with that call was the fact that it was called a touchback at the time of the play, therefore the reply couldn't indisputably refute it. Had it been called a fumble at the 1 (which is what it was, and definitely what it appeared to be at first), then the replay review couldn't have indisputably refuted THAT call, and we would've been set up on the one yard line about to score.

Eff that butthurt ref. Horrible horrible call.

Was he the same one responsible for the non-call on the Offensive PI?

I don't think it is possible for the ball to have ended up where it did, unless it went left of the pylon.

The best angle would have been the side judge, who was waving his hands for it to be out of bounds (ala, left of the pylon). He changed his ruling after the play.

CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

Wrong - in the NCAA waving hands above head is signal for a touchback

My opinion is he had no business talking the LJ off his ruling.

this. The ORIGINAL ruling was that it was out of bounds

Where was Clein standing when the ball was fumbled? Did he have a better angle than the LJ?

WOW, it doesn't confirm anything.

If it was ruled the way you wanted, Clemson could make the same argument. He graduated from FSU and therefore hates Clemson and that's why it went in our favor.

I am enjoying all the WOWs though!

Well if you study the mechanics that actually is the Head Linesman's job. The side judge can't make that ruling. Cause he can't see where the ball is.

Don't fumble in the red zone, don't miss chip shot FGs and don't whiff on tackles when you have their players dead to rights short of the first down marker.

As Jimbo said in the post game, "That's Ball."

Not really. You have to be able to tell if any part of the ball touches only the airspace directly above. So if you see the ball on the edge of the screen, it may be above the pylon if the ball is every close,, but would be unlikely to be above the pylon if it was far away because the camera sees out at an angle. This pylon top camera would need to be inside the pylon looking up as if in looking through a tube so it can only see directly up, and then you'd have to like just look for a flash of ball somehow (and know that its the ball and not jersey or skin, and also the pylon cant have already been knocked down, etc.)

He should be fired.

He has proven an inability to competently perform his job and changed a call that that changes the outcome of a game when it is the sideline refs job to make that call.

There is entirely too much investment in this to be able to make such game changing decisions and to be so blantabtly wrong.

There were also some controversial pass interference non-calls that were on that side as well that should have been called. I am assuming it was the same official.
