Holy **** Frisco! This bothers me more than any of the Jorts stuff. Jorts is an example of someone losing their way in life and becoming a grade A dbag. Sounds like he wasnt always that way, so I'm happy to give benefit of a doubt.

But what you are talking about is retribution for a supposed anonymous online post, by someone who has at very least abused their power and resources to go after you. That is a bigger story and concern than anything with Jorts, especially if they were able to trace your handle through the association. I know Brandon said it shouldn't work that way, but doesnt mean there isn't a database somewhere.

Scary as hell! And F that guy, who ever he is. We should all attempt to be more civil on these boards, but I have never known you to be inflammatory...

Our lives change.

Your spouse or someone you trust can turn your life upside down. Your company can fire u today. In a split second, one wrong turn and you are crippled for life. Death of your beloved child. It happens everyday, countless times.

The human journey is an amazing trip but it will come to an end and few in here will not be derailed major league at least once in their life.

If Jort or anyone that is spiraling out of control would just stop and believe in a greater power, amazing things start happening in their lives. The healing begins but you have to really believe and change your ways and pray.

Stop with the bad habits, take control of your life, it is your life and it is so precious.

Best take your head out of the sand and give thanks to GOD for your blessings because he gives graciously AND he does take away in the blinking of an eye.

It's pretty easy to cyber stock someone on texags. I remember tracking down someones address for fun just from a picture of their house (no address numbers!). This is texags, we don't have jobs or anything else better to do.

I want to make this very clear: you're a great poster, you bring a lot of value to this community, and you are in good standing with me (us). I am confident that the post in question was a joke and I'd defend that 10 times out of 10. However...

I remember the post in question because I received a request for take down by the effected party shortly after it was made (although I believe it had already been removed by the time I got to it). The individual at which your post was directed has been critiqued and poked at regularly and mercilessly on this site over the years. Even so, I had never heard so much as a peep from that direction until your post. When I found it and read it, I paused - trying to decipher whether it was a joke or an accusation. I determined that it was joke, but it was dangerous, really dangerous. It was short, but went to a place that was pretty dark and could easily be viewed as libel and/or defamation of character. You might refute that, but consider if some anonymous poster posted the same thing about you where your family and co-workers could see. You might see it differently then.

I really hate that what happened here created real world problems for you - I really do. However, it's a mistake to think that we can post things on the internet about real-life people - even jokes - with impunity. We can't and we should be careful not to think we can.

Let me also say this: We are not as anonymous as we think. The user above did a good job of pointing this out, but I know two details about who you are just by your username. I know you're a former student and I know that you just might live in Frisco. That's a long ways to knowing your identity before even searching your posts.

I hope that's helpful to you and others wanting to know more about this situation.

That's all true, If I posted what was alleged then I certainly understand why someone could get mad. I could also expect someone to offer a very public apology and make it very clear that it was a bad joke. (If I indeed did post that)

Someone did throw gas on the situation though and made a series of bad decisions.

However you are right. It's a lesson for me. Be careful what you post here. Sometimes the jokes can go too far. The reaction to an obvious joke was quite the event. I'm sure people crossed the line with players, coaches, profs, presidents, and chancellors.

He was having a really rough time though and think he decided to take it out on me.

It's one hell of a story though.

So, Why post anonymously?

Are most more comfortable with the idea that their Texags persona will never be linked to their identity IRL?

Would having personal information tied to your Texags profile make you more likely to tone down your posts, would it make you less likely to post in the first place? Would it ruin the forums altogether? Would we be less likely to have issues like MFBarnes or Jorts or would it cause more problems like Frisco's.

I do a lot of lurking on here and enjoy the banter between characters, I also post under my last name. And in doing so I have found myself deleting my posts that I would probably otherwise have posted without thought if my handle were not easily identifiable.

This isn't directed at just Frisco, this is something I'm genuinely curious about.

If you think having real names instead of handles is going to make everyone nice and civil, I would invite you to peruse the comments on facebook. It is shocking what people post on fb using their names.

It doesn't seem to be a deterrent these days if one lacks shame.

I made a comment and Brewer replied. I gave a little context to the comment and it kind of snowballed from there.

Because I don't want the drama of Facebook. TexAgs allows me to be more open in my opinions, without affecting my wife and family.

I have associations with MANY well known organizations, and I don't want to deal with the drama of someone twisting my posts.

You saw what happened to Tom Brokaw, for merely suggesting Hispanics should learn English. There are a ton of vindictive hateful people, and I'm not just talking about family. I had an employer ask me about a complaint he received. My dumbass uncle called (from 2 states away) and told my employer he observed me doing something specific and illegal. He told me the guys 1st name and I said I had a drunk for uncle with that name. He said the guy was definitely drunk. Asked if he called from the state my uncle lived. The boss said, "What a dumbass that he used he real name and city, to make a complaint, let alone against family."

I post mostly in Baseball Other, and then Politics. It is a good outlet to talk about baseball, something I enjoy, and there isn't a bunch of drama.
