No, he couldn't figure out who I was IRL by my posting history. He's not that smart.
If I'm an Attorney for Texas A&M, and I want to identify someone... 1st thing I'd do is recognized your AgTag and know that I can narrow down my search to anyone with the AFS that has had a request made from TexAgs. And as an A&M lawyer... I probably have access to that information.

Since I know when you registered your TexAgs account (your profile), I likely have a good way to narrow information. Your moniker... you are a kid, so I'm looking for children... likely associated with Frisco, past/present.

I'm sure Brandon can tell exactly how many AgTag requests have been made (I don't care to know). Once they identify your name... all bets are off.

I don't track information on users, but IIRC, you've dropped some information 5-10 years ago, that I recall was very specific and identifiable.

Me personally, I've dropped clues that I've tried to go back and edit. There have been MANY times I've drafted a post, only to not "Post" because I felt it just gave too much personal reference.

I would think if you've posted your major/degree or town you live in and have an AgTag... you are pretty much known by the school, not because of info provided by TexAgs, but because of information they already have on you at the AFS.

For what it's worth, I just spent about 5 minutes looking at your posting history and I've narrowed it down to 3 people. I'm 90% sure about which of the three is you.
Wait.

Me? Or Frisco? Or both?

Neither. I was totally kidding

That
The joke dies.

I know you were kidding...that was where we were supposed to go on a troll... "I remember you... that one time in high school. You and the cow..." (Stripes reference)

Stealing his spotlight?

The guy is in jail for being a deadbeat & apparently he scams Aggies...

If Frisco stole his spotlight, he did him a favor

Well S-! I take back anything negative I've ever said about Michael Young now! He's a patriot and a true gentleman!

Now don't get me started on that baseball player Michael Young....

Was this like one of those hilarious times in real life when you make an off-hand joke and someone nearby is dead certain that you're talking about them and must know something bad about them to be saying that?

So what have I learned today?
- FriscoKid is a champ
- A high level TAMU administrator is a poon, but what else is new
- jorts has brought 3x incremental revenue to TexAgs on a free board from page clicks alone

I disagree. It's more important than ever given the mentality of the majority in this country. Common sense and rational thought has been thrown out the window. You can make an innocuous statement with no ill intent and be destroyed by the internet mob who is looking to be offended.

If I were posting on Fox News or CNN, maybe. So don't post on places like that.

I guess I'm just so old I don't care who I piss off!

But doesn't texags still know who everyone is? I honestly don't know...

I'd say they have a better idea than in the past due to the requirements for creating an account but no, I don't think they know who everyone is.

Hell, nearly everyone already knew who you were anyway

Who is "Texags"?

There are 1000s of posters on this site. If one of those posters gets offended at something posted, they can ruin your life if they know your identity.

Ah, it's ok. Like I said to Brewer, I've debated publishing for a long time but that wouldn't help anyone.

Can you post the link to the post in question?

Been a long time since I've looked into PCI DSS (especially as pertains to PII), but I'd be curious as to how what the person at A&M did would be treated? As a state and federally funded institution, it's even more interesting.

Not to kick over an ant pile, but those who joined Jorts' "posse" when the bruhaha happened in Varsity several years ago still haven't reconciled their actions. I'm specifically referring to those who physically threatened their fellow Varsity subscribers and created a toxic environment there. You know who you are. Be the better man.

This thread sucks. So many people with so little knowledge of both the man and his issues. What he did was a travesty. Who he is - much, much more complicated than any of us know. I hate the damage done by him to so many people I know and love in real life. But he is loved, and his fate is deeply felt and grieved by those of us who love him.

I wish we could lock this thread. It's become a dumping ground for people far outside this story.

I laughed out loud. The purpose of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard is to ensure merely that data incidents result in the trial lawyers being pointed towards the businesses where the breach occurred by creating rules that must be followed and "observed" for certain processors by third-party "qualified security assessors."

As such breaches that include cardholder data must be reported. Unless what happened included cardholder data there is no requirement to report. Maybe Frisco can tell us if he also had to dispute charges on his credit card...

The laws on Personally Identifying Information are a hash and a lot of it is being driven by the European Union via statutory law like the General Data Protection Regulation known better as GDPR. I'll offer an analysis piece on the situation in the US just as a teaser on how relatively unprotected our personal data is.

Texas has pretty good laws protecting businesses from nefarious activity directed at breaching and taking data. I would guess Texas A&M University has decent policies and procedures against misusing private data and against using essentially state power to harass private citizens. But power hungry idiots rarely follow rules unless it suits their agenda.

Analysis if potential for EU-like GDPR privacy protection laws in the US:
