I haven't seen anybody post this yet, but we have always heard about the 1975 team but do y'all think he has a point about the 1976 team not getting enough attention and recognition from A&M?

He's posted a lot to that effect. He was trying to sell a book and some merch, iirc.

DW does have a point. That was a very young team that at the end of the year was arguably the best team in the country. I love Alan Cannon and have a lot of respect for him, but his comment sounds defensive and unreasonable. I'm sure the '75 team could be honored if enough Ags called for it. A petition should be started.

If you go to games at other schools, it seems like they're always doing halftime recognitions for this team or that team or Player X who's with us tonight. I guess perhaps the Letterman's Association doesn't like to single people out when we have so many former players regularly in attendance. But it does seem a little odd - as someone who wasn't alive for those teams - that some older Ags act as if our school didn't even have a football program before Jackie got here.

It's likely they first forgot about them in the party haze of the 60s and 70s, then drowned the precious few remaining memories in booze and sorrow.

I think he has a valid point. I was a student in those years and it was a great team. It's odd that it hasn't been recognized, but I wonder if the negative comments Walker has made about the trainers and coaching staff haven't worked to alienate the A&M athletic department.

Usually, athletic departments will draw the cut-line with championship won. If yes, honor on the field. If no, don't.

Too much time honoring BMA's. I get recognizing where your bread is buttered but it seems a reasonable request by DW

By this standard the 2012 team will never get recognized.

Bellard's teams set the stage for what Texas A&M football would become, including a tradition of intimidating defenses. RC first came then as an assistant and many of those players would have great success in the pros.

That isn't AC's comment. He's relaying it from the Letterman's Assoc.

I think it would be reasonable to honor them, it's also reasonable to only honor championships.

I feel like he's really playing up that "A&M has an underwhelming football history" by saying that team was "easily" top 4 or 5 in school history.

Probably not, although at the end of the 2012 season I think this team could have beat anyone in the country. Sad.

I was there for the game in 99 when they brought out John Kimbrough and surviving members of the '39 team. It was neat, but most schools don't really have a ton of championship teams, and most schools are a little more flexible about who they'll trot out. Hell, we do recognition ceremonies of donors grandkids and the guy my age who almost never misses a home game. But whatever.

What genius scheduled A gamecock after tu in 1975 for the first time ever? A 5-4 Arkansas team bears us 31-6. We win we might have won a Natty. #1 Ohio State loses that weekend and we were ranked #2.
One Natty was handed out before the bowl games back then.

Bellard signed off on it. It was done for tv. He said later it was one of the worse mistakes of his career.

75 and 76 teams were two of the greatest ever. You have to be dumb as a box of rocks to not get that.

Living in the past sucks. We need now in the worst way.
You are the world, we are the USA, don't mess with us and we won't blow your $hit away.

Arkansas went 10-2 that year, was SWC tri-champion with A&M and tu, and they beat Georgia in the Cotton Bowl. They were a very good team.

this. After being repeatedly fed a healthy dose of the "There's A Spirit" videos, we need new material.

A&M has gotten all the mileage out of the Bear Bryant and The Hit clips.

Nostalgia can only smooth over crap football for so long. Let's hope Jimbo can handle the program better than Sumlin.
