The TAMU and LSU series seems like a good subject for a sports documentary

If we ever win in the future, this could be an excellent rivalry. tu is not even worth our time. That rivalry was toxic and some things should be left behind. Also with most A&M and LSU alumni living in Houston, this rivalry has much more potential in the office and in the bank accounts. Let tu and OU have their fun.

There is simply no reason to think that it will hold a candle to the rivalry we had, one of a handful of the best in the country, with a hundred years of history behind it. To think otherwise is just wishful thinking.

Maybe thirty years from now this game will be something different, and more important. Equally likely is that it's not even played during rivalry week because some new arrangement has been made. Since it has no roots, it can be pulled up easily.
I agree in terms of comparison to texas but why can't we have both? As much as I can't wait to watch that Louisiana Lafayette matchup.......

I said could become a great rivalry game. And furthermore, I don't give two ****s about playing a Texas anymore. I can't for the life of me understand the thought process of some of y'all wanting to crawl back in bed with them. I'm guessing the nostalgia factor.

Well, I don't want to crawl in bed with them, I'd just like to play them on a football field.

I was born in Austin in 1969 and moved back after graduation. Went to high school in College Station and obviously stayed through college. I have spent a lot of time with fans on both sides. While the hate is real, we are not their rival and never will be their rival. She has never been into us as much as we have been into her. Ever been in a relationship like that? It never works. Let her go.

The rivalry with Texas wasnt that great.

Sure there were bragging rights in state but that's as far as it went. That game hardly ever determined conference championships or representatives for the conference championship game. And it sure never had national title implications.

Yeah that was mainly lacking from our side of the table

They are rivals with OU. They are also rivals with us. It's a lot like how OU also has a big rivalry with Oklahoma State even though they have a big rivalry with the Longhorns.

Or if you want a good SEC analogy, FLorida is rivals with Jimbo and FSU even though they have a neutral site rivalry with Georgia.

Let's stop playing pretend.

And we're not trying to date them. The only thing we need from them is to show up with their pads on at the anointed time at the anointed place.

If we can do our part this will be a rivalry. LSU walked away when we were up on them. Right now they're up on us. Plus it can be a very meaningful game.

The thing with LSU vs the longhorns is that i just don't know that many coonasses. I doubt many longhorns had to deal with very many sooners, if any, other than at their game. It's why i never believed the longhorns when they talk about OU being their "real" rival.

What exactly are some of you guys trying to accomplish by dissing the game with LSU though? We attempted to keep the game but our friends in Austin said no thanks. So what's the point in not moving on?

As to some of OP's observations, what i always found interesting is how competitive we were in the series considering we played at their place most of the time.

No it won't
It's a fabricated " rivalry"... Made up by us in hopes to replace the Texas game... And that will never happen.
LSU views this game as any other game.

You obviously were not around when the game was brought back in the 80's.
My hate for LSU is right up there with the sips.

THIS^^

The hate for LSU is lost on New Army. I remember beating their asses in Baton Rouge with Curley Hallman as their coach. Leaving the stadium that night in our Aggie gear was touch and go. Drunk, pissed off coonasses at an Aggie Letterman head coach was special.

I don't know why LSU and A&M didn't play each other every year before A&M joined the SEC. Oh , I forgot....LSU cancelled and walk out on a contract earlier. LSU/A&M could become a good series once A&M hires a coach that can coach up players, instill player discipline, and recruit consistently on the same level as some of the big boys.

Better question is what does the "rivalry-ness status" of the LSU game have to do with playing the Longhorns?

Because some invariably (and indeed did) mocks the LSU game as an attempt by us to replace the game with the longhorns.

Yeah, it's certainly not like we put in thousands of man hours over the course of weeks leading up to the game to stack up a ridiculously monstrous structure of wood to torch off in front of thousands of people in anticipation of it....

What i said is still true.
Outside of bragging rights, that game didn't carry much weight.

But a losing or bad season with a win over LSU makes it better?

LSU can be an entertaining series but LSU will never be a big rival.. Neither fan base views it as such.
You can't just make up a rivalry ... A&M has tried its hardest to do so with no avail.

TAMU

Do some Aggies really call us TAMU and TAM? Only people I've seen do this are SEC fans.
TAMU has been the abbreviation for Texas A&M University on televised games for a log LONG time. I don't call them TAMU, but I sometimes type it that way.

Not sure why a discussion of L.S.U. devolves into a discussion about Texas. As others have pointed out, a team having one rival does not preclude another. Bama has U.T. and Auburn. I have considered the Tigers a rival since my frick year, 1986, when they thumped Jackie's conference champs.

John David Crow considered them a rival, and I continue to value his opinion on such topics. None of this means I am trying to replace Texas...

LSU grad here. A&M/LSU is not just another game. I learned to despise A&M while working in downtown Houston back in the 90's with a bunch of A&M coworkers (all good guys). We were catching regular beatdowns back then and my A&M friends were hard to take, especially after we got of of the deal. So, your fanbase aren't real fond of LSU fans, and the other way around is true too. That has the makings of a very good rivalry. All A&M has to do is start winning again. I think that will happen, and pretty soon too. Texas is a big, wealthy state and A&M is the only SEC school. You have outstanding facilities and traditions, there is just no excuse for mediocrity. Glad to see you fired Sumlin.

LSU might like to think Bama is a rivalry, but it's the same thing - we need to start winning against them.

Moving the LSU/A&M game would be a bad idea from this LSU fan's perspective. If the game were moved to early in the season and then A&M played Arky in the final game, where would that leave LSU? We would have no final game over T'giving against a team from a bordering state. No in-state team would be a worthy final game (Tulane has long stopped being relevant). Arky would probably love it because they got saddled with Mizzou, which shouldn't even be in the SEC. I don't think A&M would like it either. If and when LSU and A&M are both top 10 teams, this will be a good rivalry again. Baseball is a great rivalry.

Oakpost sees this differently than most of us LSU fans. I'm a grad of LSU too (like that provides some special fan insight). Oakpost being harassed by Aggies gives him a unique perspective. Of course all LSU fans want to beat the Aggies. But it's no more than they'd want to beat any other team. We'd much prefer to lose to A&M then Bama, Florida, Ole Miss, or Auburn. There's nothing special about the A&M game to the vast majority of LSU fans.

And, what exactly tells you this. That they beat us by double digits again? I'll probably be sorry I asked, but, what exactly do you think a rivalry is?

Sorry, man. We're probably about 6th on the list of schools they care about beating right now. To compare this game to the game we had with UT is just asinine. I don't think the people that claim it even believe it...

Sorry you you didn't like my response. It's just that your post was simultaneously so laughably wrong and so ridiculously smug in it's own absurdity,
