The TAMU and LSU series seems like a good subject for a sports documentary

Wiki article on the history of LSU-TAMU

Simply put, LSU is about .500 at neutral sites (4-3-1), while each team has good home-field (0.686 for LSU, 0.583 for A&M). LSU was 17-3-1 during the Wilderness Years of Aggie football ('45-'73).

Interesting for no other reason than, like Arkansas and tu, they built most of their series advantage during the period when A&M held itself back by refusing to integrate and go co-ed. It's impossible to deny what a black hole the '50s and '60s were for Aggie football.

Something some folks might not know: A&M and LSU were actually conference mates from 1906-1914 and played five games. This is not a new rivalry, folks, this goes way back to before even Dana Bible and the Southwest Conference.

What do y'all think? Good documentary or not? I'd like to see some juicy tidbits, personally, from those who were there about the mid-nineties series breakup and those who remember the early days of the series.

It's not a rivalry and nobody cares about it.

Citing circumstances from before WWI will not change anyone's mind.

It will never have the meaning that the game with Texas did.

Other than a transient annoyance with LSU because they've had our number for so long (going right back to the CWS in '93), I don't really care about it all. If we played New Mexico this weekend instead, that would be okay with me.

If we can ever learn to beat those guys, this game could develop into one of the best rivalry games in the country.

No it won't
It's a fabricated " rivalry"... Made up by us in hopes to replace the Texas game... And that will never happen.
LSU views this game as any other game.

I said could become a great rivalry game. And furthermore, I don't give two ****s about playing a Texas anymore. I can't for the life of me understand the thought process of some of y'all wanting to crawl back in bed with them. I'm guessing the nostalgia factor.

There is simply no reason to think that it will hold a candle to the rivalry we had, one of a handful of the best in the country, with a hundred years of history behind it. To think otherwise is just wishful thinking.

Maybe thirty years from now this game will be something different, and more important. Equally likely is that it's not even played during rivalry week because some new arrangement has been made. Since it has no roots, it can be pulled up easily.

You obviously were not around when the game was brought back in the 80's.

I was, and there was no comparison. Which loss hurt more in '90? The loss to LSU or the loss to Texas? No comparison.

I was
Attended football games in 80's and 90's
Was at Olsen Field when LSU double dipped us in '89
Was in stands at Rosenblatt when LSU beat us in '93 CWS
Was at Alex Box Stadium for 2005 super regional
Was at the 2011 cotton Bowl

I just don't view LSU as a rivalry game
And the fact that thousands of seats have been empty at Kyle for the last 2 games vs LSU .. Well proves a lot of others feel same way I do... It's just another game

Wrong. We lost 17-8 in Baton Rouge in 90 (just like I said). I'll bet you remember the 28-27 loss in Austin that year. Apparently the LSU loss (very frustrating game to watch) didn't stick with you too much...

Case closed.

Not trying be a dick. I understand the fact that aTm was a small, all male school. But it seems the rivalry was a bit one sided for a long time. Everybody from Austin will still say their biggest rival is OU. Moving into the SEC and eventually having sustained success is a much bigger deal than playing a game against a Texas, just because we always used to play them. Remember, I'm just a tshirt aggie, although I did raise one. I also spend money on tickets, travel to games, etc. The bigger picture is that aTm is a part of a conference that is the envy of all. Constantly looking backward at a game that is no longer being played - just helps hold aTm back.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, either (it just comes naturally to me ;-)

I think for the most part, the people in Austin are liars when it comes to this game.

Of course, there was the 2012 (season) Cotton Bowl, where they overwhelmingly rooted for Manziel and the Aggies to crush their hated rivals OU....... right?

They're part of our history, and we're part of their's (a big part, both ways). If we don't want to play the game anymore, fine.

But don't let anybody try to tell me that LSU is some kind of replacement...

So you want a tv show that makes excuses from the 1950s to help manufacture a "rivalry" that neither team cares about today? Less than 20 people would even bother to turn that on

a). meximan is right- this would be an interesting documentary.

b) it is a "natural" rivalry due to history, state lines, geography and recruiting battles

c). it will become a much more intense rivalry when the two start trading punches and costing each other conf championships (which they did to us already in 2012.

if you dont appreciate that or look firward to it, suit yourself- but you're missing out on one of the great reasons for watching your team play college football- beating a good team that has all the marks of a natural rival.

The rivalry with Texas wasnt that great.

Sure there were bragging rights in state but that's as far as it went. That game hardly ever determined conference championships or representatives for the conference championship game. And it sure never had national title implications.

I've got to chime in here and vehemently disagree.

First of all, LSU has always been our second biggest rival. Bigger than Arkansas and Tech. We historically played them the first game of the season, or very early, then ended with tu. The series with LSU dates back to the 1890's, and has had drama, bad blood and has usually had a rippling effect on the other.

Right now your problem is that you are hard wired to play tu on Thanksgiving. Trying to play this game on that date was a huge folly on our part because we were trying to "replace" the tu game. We shouldn't have tried to do that because LSU has no history of playing on Thanksgiving, certainly not against us. Moving this game to Saturday will be an improvement.

The last several years have seen a broken, beat down, and mentally tired A&M team by the time we are playing LSU. This year is no different. A win means nothing to us, as we will undoubtably end up in some crap bowl that no one cares about, against a similar team that has had a similar season. We would be disinterested against anyone but tu.

Basically, this rivalry is not what it once was. It needs to be played earlier in the season. It would be better for us to play Arkansas this week, as we historically played them in November. Ultimately, I bet we renew with tu on Thanksgiving (right or wrong - don't debate it here), and this game moves back to September as it should. It doesn't need to be the first game each year, but we can open up SEC play with them.

We used to play them every year during non conference play in the 80s and early nineties. During my time at A&M if I had to choose either beating them or tu I would've chosen to beat them. They had the worst fans. Worse than tech.

If they say that game isn't a rivalry game, they're lying to you to annoy you in the same way Aggies try to lie saying that game didn't/doesn't mean anything.

Spend some time on that campus, with students, in classes, with staff, spend time with alumni...it means something whether or not your friends try to tell you otherwise.

Agreed, the OU game is certainly a huge game for the horns and a lot of times has decided conference and even national champions, but the A&M and Texas game has a lot more emotional meaning (bonfire, fight songs, etc.)....and emotions are what make a great rivalry game.

For decades LSU was our main non-conference rival. Although there are many fine Tiger fans, their worst fans are some of the nastiest and crudest around, primarily due to how much they drink.

Olds will never forget how Ben McDonald single-handedly eliminated the best Aggie baseball team ever from the NCAA playoffs. And they will never forget a horrible Aggie football team upsetting #12 LSU in Baton Rouge 20-18 in 1970 because Hugh McElroy (the first African-American to play for the Ags) scored a touchdown with 12 seconds left on a 79-yard pass play. The Ags then lost the remaining nine games.

This rivalry will never replace the tu game as a rivalry. But the games against LSU and Arky are our only real rivalries in the SEC and we should make the most of them.

I have to say I don't care much about when the game is played and if a game's rivalry-ness is dependent on the date and day of the week, that seems like less a rivalry and more of a tradition in the sense the Cowboys play on Thanksgiving.

Honestly, don't play anyone on Thanksgiving Day. It doesn't make the game anymore special for me and it's a pain and students aren't always around and it's just too hard to compete with NFL football.

SEC West games are usually a big deal but by and large I didn't grow up with LSU fans, my friends by and large didn't go to LSU, my teammates didn't go to LSU, my co-workers didn't go to LSU...they much more likely went to you know where.
