I was as pissed as anyone after UCLA. I was completely done because I had no faith that Sumlin could, or even wanted, to change. Since then we've played our best football in the 4th quarter of every game. While trying to drag along a freshman QB. If that continues through the end of the year then Sumlin will have restored much faith.

The SEC is down this year, no doubt. So I will of course judge him on the entirety of the season. But good lord everyone needs to the chill the F out.

We won, so....

I'm glad we won @Florida and it is a solid accomplishment for this team.

But they might not win 6 games this year. They aren't good.

I, as a "sunshine pumper", wanted to quit watching football and fire everyone.

Because it's not true. They were not without 10 STARTERS. Some of the guys they are missing are backup/bench.

They have been missing some key players (Del Rio, Calloway, Cleveland, Toney, and Zuniga) but we've been missing some key players as well (Starkel, Wilson, etc).

If this win doesn't count, do our losses last year without Knight not count either?

The people who you're responding to don't understand that fielding an eligible team is a part of football and COACHING.

These same people also give Sumlin absolute unfiltered hell for losing two 5* QBs but say nothing about McElwain losIng his clownas players.

So yes, even if he won out, I'm in the too little too late camp.

That being said,

If Mond were to somehow develop and start making good decisions with the ball, getting the pass out quickly, not giving up huge sacks when we need yards the most...

If the defense starts producing turnovers (which there have been flashes in the pan) and not giving up the huge play on 3rd down.....

If Kirk runs up and catches a punt instead of giving up 15-20 yards of field position....

Maybe, just maybe, I'd consider riding out his contract another year.

It's not that they don't "count," but we've all watched a lot of bad coaching from Sumlin, with a decent bit coming this year. If you're trying to convince me or someone else that Sumlin has turned a corner ability-wise, it's going to take more than 3 close wins over deeply flawed SEC teams. I mean we easily could have lost to Arkansas and Florida. Is Sumlin a fundamentally different coach just because Kirk had clutch, game-changing returns in both contests?

Basically, I want to see a statistically significant number of games. We ain't there yet.

You can't say win SEC games and then when he wins SEC games make excuses as to why he won them and say it doesn't matter. I dont think MSU, Ole Miss or LSU are good either, but you can't pick when your opponents decide to take a crap. It's conference wins and that's all that matters.

What I see is:

The best D we've had in a long time.
A legit freshman QB who wasn't supposed to be "the guy" yet, getting better every week.
LBs and D-line making plays for the first time since...?
Young, talented WRs who are learning on the job, and will be a solid unit in 2018.
Coaches making in game adjustments, shutting down opponents in the second half.
An all around confident team that doesn't quit, and believes they can play with anyone.

But no, we can't credit Sumlin for any of that.

If you know anything about the game, you know winning is all that matters. Winning "ugly" while playing so many freshman should encourage the fan base.

Guess you missed the part where all three phases of the game made huge plays down the stretch of both games to allow us to win. If you can't see coaching in that, then you're blind. In the Florida game we kicked off deep and high to pin them in terrible field position and we covered well. They started on their 15. We stopped them defensively and made them punt. When they did we set up a maximum return which worked to spring us into great field position. If you know anything about football, you'll see the design and great blocks by our whole team, not
Just kirk. Our offense all though not word beaters moved the ball when we needed to close enough for
Us to kick a field goal to go ahead. So great offense and special teams. We kicked deep again great special teams to keep them from a chance to return and then played great defense to close out the game.

Sumlin is winning right now. We should all feel good about that. We all hope it continues.

But other than the SEC being way down this year, there is nothing to suggest we are going to finish this season any different than the last three. So these threads don't make any sense to me.
