I have a question since this letter has obviously made national news. I will put it out there that the word used in the mail should never be used regardless and I have many black friends. With that said...

Is the letter still considered racist if a black/Hispanic/Asian/Indian man or woman sent this or is it assumed that a white man or woman wrote this which is why it is racist. The letter does not signed white man or white woman. A&M is a very diverse school and that's what I love about the school. But to assume a white fan wrote this is disturbing and makes my stomach turn as much as the 4th quarter of the UCLA game.

In this day and age, no telling who wrote it. I'm a Longhorn. There's a real good chance whoever wrote that isn't an Aggie.

Haven't the liberals and media taught you anything?! There is ONLY white vs. black racism. There was only slavery for 4 years and only in southern states. Cops only shoot innocent black people and in far greater #s than violence within that demographic, etc., etc., etc., etc.

This is 2017, instant reaction on everything.

100000000% assumed this was sent by a white Aggie fan and the flames will be fanned and there will be no questioning of the logic or validity of it.

Look at the handwriting and the way the letter was addressed with the Zip Code under the State. A woman, likely over 65, wrote it. Most likely not an Aggie.

A handwritten note from some unstable idiot. That's pretty much all this is. Every high profile person, sports, politics, acting whatever gets the ocassional jackass comment, letter, text etc.

This is just trash, like the person who wrote it. Blowing it out of proportion is simply giving a spotlight to ignorance.

There is nothing conclusive about the ethnicity of the writer. Anything outside the letter itself is conjecture. Hope this helps you sleep better tonight.

It doesn't matter who wrote it. I must be condemned outright. No decent person does this. I'm praying our coach knows most people aren't haters. Hope he can lead his team through this too. Haters cause lots of damage. Think about that as you post on this forum. Some of you need to.

Regardless of if it was an Aggie, longhorn, wildcat, pumpkin etc. this reeks. To assume this is a racist letter is just absurd. Can a black man that calls another black man the N word be called a racist? I'm not saying a black man wrote this but I also cannot say a white man wrote this. With no assumptions being made it should say "person writes letter with bad word to Coach Sumlin." This is dumb.

The letter is racist regardless of the race, gender, religion, or nationality of the writer. It uses a racial slur which has absolutely nothing to do with his performance as a football coach and everything to do with his race. Hard to believe this isn't obvious.

Ok thanks for clearing that up for us all. So all of our players and players on other teams use racial slurs at each other during games. There should be an article every football game aout the racism taking place on the football field between the same race.

Don't all letters have a stamp from the post office that collects them? You can trace a letter back to the exact mailbox it came from. If any security cameras were in that area you can identify suspects. I don't know if this is high enough priority to get the Feds involved but the "or else" could certainly qualify it as a hate crime. If they really wanted to find the sender they could.

The front of the envelope has a bard code that indicates the station the letter is going to. The reverse side of the envelope has a very light pink bar code that indicates what station the envelope was deposited and processed at.

What irks me is that we just had the worst flood in US history happen and we saw something beautiful. We saw all races, religions, etc. come together as one and show the nation that we all love each other and will risk our lives for one another. Then she has to go and post this letter on social media which will hurt a narrative of us all coming together as a country.

Very poor timing and I am ashamed that she had to put this out on social media with an agenda instead of letting the process play out. I understand her frustration, but she does not understand **** storm she is going to cause with this. This is not a "Texas A&M is racist" issue. This is a "Racism is alive and well in Texas issue." Very sad.

The problem with truly racist (actual definition of) people is that they don't care and will use anything as an excuse to express their disgusting views.

It was a great response by staff that needed to be said to remind the filth that they're not wanted.

I am surprised that Sumlin even went public with that. Who knows who wrote that? White, Black, Martian, hell Sumlin himself to try to get sympathy. Why is it assumed it was a White person and an Aggie? It can just as well be from some other fan base trying to use this situation to hammer A&M with recruits.

This is 100% phony manufactured outrage done solely for sensationalism followed by tons of self righteous " looky looks how outraged I am too " pablum. Absolutely pathetic...

Dude, seriously? Regardless of whether or not the person who sent it was an Aggie or not, the intent was for it to be an angry letter, and the slur used in the letter was not a friendly intent like you hear between friends and players. If you want to discuss whether or not 2 black people using the word between themselves is wrong or right, that's a different discussion that does not belong here.

What was sent to Coach Sumlin was racist and every Aggie should be bothered by it, as our school is being drug through the mud because of it.

I actually have 6 links, and was getting super pissed the more info I looked up...So, look it up yourself, I am not going to fight about something I know to be true, to a person who would just as soon see me in prison or dead.

It's crap like this that makes me question the sustainability of big time college sports and professional sports. I honestly hope they both go down the tubes. I quit caring as much once I realized how much the media manipulates the idiot fan bases around the country in order to drive ratings. Furthermore, I think it could be argued that our addiction to sports has negatively impacted the black community more than anything else over the last 50 years. To this day, I continue to hear people say that athletics is the best way to keep high risk black kids out of trouble. I think that's total B.S....if our society cared as much about improving the education system and promoting individual accountability as it does about sports, maybe we would see some improvement.

Letter should not have been sent.

Letter should not have been posted in public

Writer needs to be exposed.

If writer is an Aggie, that person should be disassociated forever from TAMU

TAMU needs the truth regarding this letter as lots of innocent Aggies are getting labeled unfairly.

We need to move on...

Fill in what I missed

Definitely a bipolar old white bag. The only demographic that could write a beautifully penned note that was racist, threatening, emasculating, but polite (she said please).
