Chip Kelly is insane a fatter Belichick without the Superbowl rings. You guys rag on Sumlin for being pompous and arrogant, just wait till you see Chip. I follow the Eagles. His players hated him. He is so enamored with his "system," he doesn't care who it pisses off or whether it's even working.
FIFY.

Kelly was mostly given carte blanche by Knight at Oregon. Recruiting scandals and a show cause resulted. He would want that again.

If not Petrino, I'd see if Mark Richt wanted back in the SEC...we could sure use some recruits from the states of Georgia, Florida...

Larry Fedora
Lost to Georgia, VaTech and Duke.

Next?
Beat Sumlin head to head in a conference championship game.

North Carolina has been a really bad football team since Mack Brown left for tu. It's not an easy school to win at.

Fedora has absolutely improved that team in his time there. They have shown this improvement while being under sanctions that have cost them 15 scholarships.

I'm not saying that he should be the guy, but it's ridiculous to say that he shouldn't be on the list of good coaches to look at.

You aren't following the general meme around. Sumlin has lost games to sub-500 teams. So has Fedora.

So has all coaches not named 'Saban" while at Alabama.

Therein lies the crux of the matter. Is anyone clamoring for Miles? He did win a natty. So did Chizk and Larry Coker for that matter. That's the problem. You never know.

Yeah, I get that. The last two losses alone aren't the reasons that people want Sumlin gone. These last two losses have been the straw that broke the camel's back.

Saying that everyone in the zoo wants Sumlin gone solely for the last two games would be like saying Texas A&M moved to the SEC because of the longhorn network. There's obviously so much more to it than that.

We know it isn't Sumlin. So, are you suggesting we keep him because at least we know what we have?

There are no sure things in CFB. You know that. SCar hired the HBC. Even he wasn't a sure thing. Should they have kept the dude that was there before HBC?

Lou Holtz??

It's all a crap shoot, IMO. Bama went all in on Saban, despite his public protests. They were willing to wait and add numbers to the front of six zeros.

So did Michigan for Harbaugh.

But those were relatively easy selections insofar as Harbaugh was a Michigan man who was on the outs with his owner. Saban was disillusioned with the NFL, much like Holtz and Spurrier before him.

I am not seeing that type of determination and cohesion among the administration to make that kind of full court press for anyone. Have you?

I am not a Sumlin defender per se. I do understand how circumstances sometimes went beyond his control and he didn't have a counter nor good reaction to them. That happens to a lot of coaches.

The coaching carousel might be pretty small ball this year. Herman is the only potential up and comer and established coaches don't appear ready to make a change. I'm concerned the pickings are slim.

I don't really disagree with you.

And no, we have mid level money guys. We don't have Saban or Harbaugh type money guys. Plus, you're right. I don't see anyone else out there that is worth Saban or Harbaugh money.

That being said, there are people out there that are worth a look at what we are paying Sumlin after next year. At this point, I would rather go that route than let Sumlin cause more damage here.
aggiehawg
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I'm cool with that, as well. We'll see how the carousel starts to shape up.

Will the sips fire Strong? Will Phil Knight pull the plug on Helfrich? Will Jimbo jump to Red Stick?

Aaannnndd, the ageless will Saban retire after natty number 6?

For an Aggie fan, this season is poop. For a CFB fan, it will be very interesting to see how everything washes out in the end.

And no, I think Saban wants 7. Plus, why retire when you have Jalen Hurts....as a FRESHMAN!

Recruiting needs to be as important as anything. Petrino seems like someone who would lose the biggest recruiting battles, like Sumlin.

Keep Jon Chavis no matter what.

Should target people like:

Jon Gruden, Chip Kelly, Tom Herman, Chris Petersen should be at the very Top of our list. Pay them 7 million if you have to. Christ. Only an idiot would pay $400 million for a stadium and then make a big deal about an extra $10 million total over 10 years? Christ. Pay a coach that can't lose and who can recruit.
MaxPower
How long do you want to ignore this user?
So recruiting is important but you think Peterson and Gruden (who hasn't recruited in like 25 years) are your top candidates? I'd trust Petrino recruiting over those guys.

I also don't get the fascination with Chavis. I'm fine keeping him but if your top candidate has his guy it isn't a deal killer.

Petrino doesn't really recruit at a high level. He relies on diamond in the rough types and the occasional high level guy ie Lamar Jackson. Go check out their 2017 class they're working on. Idk if it can work in the SEC. His WL record at Arky wasn't great.

I think our next guy has to be someone that has repeatedly overachieved with less than stellar talent. Fedora, Franklin and maybe a handful of others might pull it off. Sooo tired of talent excuse...just do yoir job as coach and win with what you have.

I'll throw one out for you. Steve Spurrier would very likely consider a short term ( 2-3 yrs or so) interim coaching job .... it would buy ya'll some time. It is pretty common knowledge here in G'ville that he is itching to do some coaching. You would need some good asst. coach recruiters because that is something he getting too old for (& never liked). Seriously, if it is in the SEC and it is relatively short term, I would not be surprised at all if he took a job. Finally, I am totally confident he would take an attractive Offensive Coordinator job.....he simply can't stand not being an active coach.

I could get behind a Morris HC and Spurrier OC combo. Young apprentice with wisdom to help guide from behind the scenes. I just don't think Morris is ready to do it alone on this big of a stage or the SEC for that matter. Spurrier give him that instant credibility/experience.

Briles - You guys are idiots
Petrino - Dont think he can recruit against current state of Texas coaches.
Chip Kelly - Had a lot of questionable help in recruiting, dont think he could do it here.
Chad Morris - Hasnt won anything as of yet, May be too early for him with a big time program.
James Franklin - seems like he is able to get the best out of his players and good coaches around him. Recruits well.
Les Miles - His pick of players in Louisiana kept him afloat. Bout as bad as Sumlin on gameday.
Mike Leach - SEC is too much for someone like him. And has never had a defense. Which you need in the SEC.
Dabo Swinney - Not coming.
John Gruden - Not coming.
Gary Kubiak - Not coming.
Nick Saban - Not coming.
Urban Meyer - Not coming.
Jimbo Fisher - Not coming.
Chris Peterson - Not coming. Although that would be my first choice.
Dan Mullen - Not sure. Would be hit or miss. Couple of his players made him look good. Ala Johnny and Sumlin.
Mack Brown - Thats funny.
Ed Orgeron - Would probably be in trouble in a few years. Decent recruiter.
Larry Fedora - Not sure if he's ready for big time program either.
Lane Kiffin - Interesting
David Cutcliffe - Interesting
Brent Venebles - Interesting
Tom Herman - Is not a good coach
Gary Patterson - Possible but his gig at TCU is pretty good for someone like him. We could get him more money though.
P.J. Fleck - Doesnt know Texas recruiting and is not a Saban. Texas coaches dont know him.
Bob Stoops - I think he has enough money.
Mike Gundy - Dont think he could win in the SEC
Pat Fitzgerald - Liked him a long time. Players coach. Dont know if he could recruit well enough.
Pat Narduzzi - Maybe but again, dont know if he could recruit well enough to make difference in the SEC
Matt Rhule - Someone to watch
