If you think $5,000,000 is a lot of money for us, consider this.. we sell about 600,000 tickets a year... so we can pay Sumlin for a mere four teas per fan a game...

Meh, we will see what our record is in November. But right now Sumlin is earning his paycheck so far in 2016.

Yeah, KK did a great job alright. Did a great job of getting his ass out of the way and letting Johnny be Johnny.

His play calling lost the LSU game.

It's not that he won poorly, he won poorly in week 5 when his teams tend to start falling apart. It makes it look like we will repeat all of the mistakes from previous years. SC is not good. How are we going to beat Alabama on the road if we struggle with SC? At the same time the offensive problems of the previous years are rearing their ugly head again.

For now, I'll chalk it up to a bad game. But some are more cynical, warranting the negativity.
South Carolina's offense is not good. But, there is nothing about any of their first 4 games that suggested that this would be a blowout. We held them to 2 FGs in the last 59:47. We were one missed FG away from the most points they've allowed this season. And, we played on their field.

The negativity on this board comes from the fact that the zoo is full of idiots.

Kentucky beat them by 7 and SC was missing their entire 2 deep at WR. That tells me that it should've been a blowout.

Wish I got paid $5 million a year to yell "DO YOUR JOB!" to the players. That's about all I see him do. He doesn't call any plays or make any decisions, besides maybe going for it on 4th down.

I'll ask the same question on this thread that I ask everytime this subject gets posted:

Who replaces Sumlin that would realistically come here? Name three. Herman isn't coming here, so he's out.

What have you observed several other coaches around the league doing? You seem well studied. Want him to kiss each player before the game? I'm sure The Pulse covers everything he does for our viewing pleasure.

Sumlin saw problems within our team and addressed them by bringing in the right coaches to fix them. Last I checked that's what the head coach does in addition to telling kids on the sidelines "DO YOUR JOB!"

Sumlin may not be worth $5 million per year, but then what coaches are? Are y'all aware of the salaries in the SEC west? Y'all want Mullen or Bielema?

Really? It took him over two years to see that Spav wasn't working out.

Nice deflect. That still doesn't address the fact that he wasted two seasons sticking with an OC that even Stevie Wonder could see wasn't up to task.

I am the biggest pot banger Sumlin hater on this board and that is indisputable.

And even I admit that he has addressed every issue that we have had starting with the defense.

He brought back Turner, got a run game going and he canned Spav.

Team is playing well so far, although today's game was a bit on the meh side for the offense.

We were hurting at QB, granted after Sumlin somehow ran off two 5* QBs, but he brought in Knight, and while he is no JFF, I daresay he is better for this team than both the 5*'s that left.

So far, he's done everything he needed to do to earn his paycheck. Now we need to win and compete in every game and finish out this schedule strong.

Sumlin is doing exactly what needs to be done to win football games. We will see how he finishes.

That's not a deflect at all. It took sumlin one year longer than you as an entitled internet fan on TexAgs wanted to replace spav. He did it, the team has momentum and has improved on that side of the ball.

He hired Chavis two years ago, one year after I wanted him to fire Snyder as an entitled internet fan on TexAgs wanted him to, and we have an excellent defensive unit as a result.

Quit living in the past.

The truth is, we won't know crap till November. Right now Sumlin has done the same thing he's done the past two years. He won't have made any significant quantifiable progress unless he wins 3 of the remaining 5 conference games on the schedule. If he does that then there's a conversation to be had. If not then it's same ****, different season.

I think the jury is still out.
Kenny checked out as soon as he knew he had a giant hole to dig himself out of for partying too much.

Kyle was wanting to transfer when he lost the QB competition to Kenny Hill and only stayed because Kenny was so good at self sabotage. He was never willing to work for the starting job and proved it when he balked at a QB competition he would have won vs Hubes and Kyler before the bowl last year.

Kyler came in demanding he have significant PT as a true fish after he jerked around the staff at the last minute with his kiss the ring routine before he signed. The only way to have handled him right would have been to never offer him a scholarship in the first place.

As far as I'm concerned all 3 were spoiled prima donna brats who all think the world revolves around them. As talented as all three are our locker room is better off without their snake oil.

Yep. That's all he does. He just claps his hands on the sidelines on Saturdays because that's what YOU see.

And you clearly know how a major college football program is run. In addition to his clapping his hands on the sidelines on Saturday, here are just a few of the things he manages to mix in...

  • Maintain a year-round recruiting effort targeting the best talent in the nation, bringing in consistent talent into College Station at an unprecedented level, broadening our recruiting footprint far wider than any of his predecessors.
  • Manage, hire, and fire a huge staff of assistant coaches which he meets with daily for game plans and personnel evaluations.
  • Award 85 scholarship athletes a year based on performance evaluations, film, and feedback from a scouting network he organizes
  • Develops overall game plans, breaking down countless hours of film each week and consulting with every position coach to get all units on the same page.
  • Organizes limited practice time down to the minute to maximize the team's allotted sessions.
  • Deals with 100+ college kids every day, becoming a mentor and father figure to many
  • Is the face of the program, speaking at and attending numerous community, university and charity events
  • Handles the media/PR and promotes the program on local and national broadcasts on a daily basis, elevating our brand to the likes never seen at Texas A&M
  • Sports a sweet visor/sunglasses combo
  • Handles and approves internal decisions and communications with the AD, SIDs, marketing, and finance teams within the program.
  • Coaches football at football practice
  • Regularly beats teams that would be signature wins for most of his predecessors.
  • Deals with idiots like YOU.

I could go on and on. You saying that Sumlin gets paid to run around to clap his hands, spew catch phrases and make 4th down calls shows a complete lack of recognition for what this job actually entails.

Compared to his predecessors, he's crushing them. Beating Arkansas was a pipe dream before he got here. We're 5-0 against them since he got here. Beating ranked teams happened once a year or so. We now do it regularly.

Good God, we're 5-0 and a top-ten team and you guys are still bashing Sumlin?? How is that possible?

It's unreal.

Yup.

Absolutely no skin in the game and yet their world crumbles around them if they can't walk into the office on Monday talking football from a position of superiority. It's not just an Ag thing. I know these guys. They plan their walk down the hallways based on how their co-workers teams fared that Saturday.

I office with a sip....one of the good ones...and he has a Tech friend that, like clockwork will call him to go to lunch any Monday after Texas loses.

Save Saban and Meyer (who we would never get) every coach over the last four years that according the TexAgs coaching talent scouts was "the guy we need Sumlin to be more like" have alll since had shi*t the bed games...some against Sumlin himself. I remember specifically the names:

1) Bielema
2) Malzahn
3) Fisher
4) Freeze

And that's without getting out of our division.

Others can add to this list, I'm sure.
