OP is right. We shouldn't have changed anything this year.

The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors football team represents the University of Hawaii at Manoa in NCAA Division I FBS college football. On November 27, 2015, Nick Rolovich was hired as the new head football coach at the University of Hawaii replacing Norm Chow. It was part of the Western Athletic Conference until July 2012, when the team joined the Mountain West Conference.

From 2000 until July 1, 2013, the football team was renamed to simply Warriors, until a 2013 decision to standardize all of the school's athletic team names took effect, and the team was once again known as the Rainbow Warriors.

The Hawaii Warriors were the third non-AQ team to play in a BCS bowl game; they lost to Georgia 4110 in the Sugar Bowl on January 1, 2008 in New Orleans.

Ding Ding. I know not a lot of respect was shown towards spav on and off the field. Lot's of drama behind the scenes.

Lol remember when Kenny threw for 511 in game one versus SC? We're talking HAWAII here. I'd love to see Davis Webb take on Alabama and Mississippi in weeks 6 a d 7. Face it. The only seasons our QBs didn't get worse as the season went on was when Spav wasn't the QB coach. Even Johnny wasn't as good in season 2 once Spav got a hold of him.

I may be wrong here, but doesnt Cal pretty much run the Head Coach Sonny Dykes system, the air raid. Seems like for some dumb reason Sumlin let Spavital run his own system and refused to step in b/c he either couldnt or was too ignorant to think that Spav could turn it around.

He didn't rush for as many yards but he was actually a better passer in year 2(which one would expect).

I have a buddy on the Cal staff. They seem to think they are lucky to have him. Great recruiter, young coach with a solid background. Whether a TexAgs agrees or not, Spavs rep is pretty good.

Don't know if it was Spav or not but Sumlin came to A&M with the offensive genius tag and Spav worked under KS.

We will have a good source of comparison. Let's see how we do against UCLA compared to Cal.

The scheme and play calling sequences were terrible against elite sec defenses. It is also predicated on confidence. Without belief that your offense is good it stalls. Spav failed across the board. Cal may lose to horn.

That is a damn dirty lie. He hates all sorts of people. Only one of them is Kevin Sumlin

Spav isn't the playcaller there. If he was just an OC, QB coach, and recruiter and Sumlin was the leader of the offense, he could have been successful here. He has a lot of great coaching qualities, he just wasn't ready to be the sole leader of an offense in the sec.

great recruiter does not mean great at offensive game planning and play calling. JS was in over his head and Sumlin did very little until too late.

Didn't we hired Spav 2.0 or rather the Beta version? Same scheme. Against Bama and LSU I expect the same. Bubble screen left, bubble screen right, slow developing run up the middle for no gain, punt. Hope I am wrong. Cal was productive against Hawaii, but I cringed watching it. Just not a scheme that works against the SEC elite.

Our offense was death by 1000 cuts last yr but Spav was the biggest bleeder. He had no idea how to best use what he had. He couldn't call a succesful 3rd and short to mid-distance play if his life depended on it. Refused to use speed backs in favor of a slower starting pounder. and did so on delayed handoffs or trying to run wide. He continuously got his team in 3rd and longs and proceeded to run plays with low chance of success. Last yrs offense was an abortion on every level I can think of.

The little bit I watched of Cal-Hawaii I was not impressed especially with their passing game. If I was Cal I'd feel about the same as we did after the previous yrs game against Nevada. We out-talented Nevada but did not outscheme them. Same with Cal v. Hawaii.

not really the same scheme at all. Cal was productive in the same sense that we were productive against teams with lessor athletes.

Time will tell. At least Mazzone has an experience edge vs Spav and I presume an OL coach that is on the same page as he is. I'm not expecting a major earthshaking leap but I do expect improvements v. last yr. If the offense is not notably better against top teams then I think Sumlin is toast. Actually I'm predicting 6-6 and Sumlin gone so maybe I really do agree with you.

In this respect I don't agree , Mazzone has a resume' , particularly with regard to experience level, worthy of being the OC at Texas A&M. Spav did not. After one yr it was glaringly obvious to the most casual observer that Spav was in over his head and yet Sumlin stll stuck with him.

Spav's absurdly bad situational play calling was compounded by poor fundamentals, & execution. Half his awful plays might have worked if our guys had been coached properly. Most TX HS coaches could have done a better job at developing our talent. Exactly nothing about Cal made me think those guys were well coached.

I think a lot of folks expect coaches to get better, but the gap between Spaz & acceptable will probably take 5+ years!

Let me tell you how bad Spav was. He thought it was a good idea to have the Christensen calling his own blocking schemes, McKinney calling his own personnel, and then spav would call a play that didn't make sense with either of their choices. It was a three headed abortion that was destined to fail.
