I expect every A&M athletics squad to be better than last place. You will never beat my expectations by simply not finishing last.

I will never apologize nor back down from that statement.

I will not lower my expectation to "just finish last" because _____ coach has not recruited enough talent to warrant more than a last place finish.

If Sumlin did not have the players 3 and 4 years into his tenure, if Sumlin did not have the coaching staff 3 and 4 years into his tenure, to warrant more than a last place finish...that is on Sumlin.


If you're going to tell us Sumlin is responsible for the good and the bad, you have to hold him responsible for the bad, too.

I'm always happy to give him credit for the good, too. I'll even give him full credit for year 1 when we won the Cotton Bowl even though that's the year he probably was least responsible for.

I hope these new hires work out, I hope Trevor Knight is a great quarterback and we win a lot of games.

I've never called for Sumlin to be fired. I've never called for Moorehead to be fired. But I will wait until we actually win football games before I give him credit for improvements to the staff and roster. Improvements to the staff and roster are merely a means to an end---that end is winning football games.
