Are you a fan of the Dallas Cowboys or Houston. What gives you the right to root for them when you are not affiliated with them. Affiliation will never have anything to do with who you are allowed to cheer for.

Affiliation with the school isn't important. Based on current 12th Man actions, all that matters is how much money you want to give them. Give them enough you can buy in and get your own suite at Kyle field. May even commission a statue be made in your honor. Might even name a building after you. Sky is the limit. So how much you bringing with you?

My Pop was Class of '59 and I grew up as an Aggie fan. My first game was against Wichita State back in the early 70's. I pulled for them back in the Emory Bellard days all the way through today. I remember the "Great Wall" basketball team with Vernon Smith and Rynn Wright etal. Even though I went to Cougar High, my blood is as maroon as most people who were fortunate enough to graduate in Aggieland. However, after living in Destin for 10 years - I wasn't allowed to refer to myself as a "local" there either.

So, while I may not be an Aggie, I am still proud to refer to myself as an Aggie Fan.

In the mid 2000's it always felt so ******y when t.u. fans doubled down on"we" when referring to t.u. despite never going there.

Support a&m and I believe most Ags will gladly give or buy you a beer at a game in welcoming you with open arms, but don't aggressively talk **** to other schools. It just seems lame.

OP, of course you are not required to graduate from A&M to be a fan. Just carry yourself with some class, attend some games, and stick with the team through the good and the bad. That hasn't been easy at times, especially during the Fran years, but it's all been worth it now that A&M finally found its home in the SEC.

As for smack talk, I will a little if someone starts it, but I just prefer to talk CFB with fellow fans so as to avoid any nonsense. Of course i won't engage in academic smack, because that's not my place. And it's lame, honestly. Some folks are just insecure/arrogant like that. The ones who think you have to attend a certain school for them to consider you a fan and worth talking to make me laugh and do not represent their school well. When you've followed A&M football as long as I have and have lots of family who graduated from there, you tend to not care.

Fortunately A&M's move to the SEC has brought more visibility and helped dispel the notions of having to attend to be a fan. I may not get the same kind of gratification from success on the football field as someone who attended and busted their ass to graduate, but that's okay.

Oh, one more thing, you gotta get hammered at Duddley's atleast once off pickle shots so you can know what they taste like the next morning coming out. (Hint: the same)

Howdy Y'all!

Hoping this is the right board for this. So here's my conundrum....I'm a UH grad of three years and have a sister that will attend A&M beginning this fall. My family began taking road trips to C Stat almost every other weekend since she accepted on going.

The more my family visited Aggieland, the more I've fallen in love with it. I look up A&M history, pictures and facts almost on a daily basis now. Basically now i'm hoping to attend A&M for my MBA in a couple years.

I would really like to be a fan and root for the Aggies and plan on attending some football games with my sister, but not sure if I can do without judgement so since I did not go to the school.



Thoughts?
