Answer: The Ptarmigan Club. Old part of Bryan, dive bar that's been around for decades. Off the beaten path for the main college crowd, so less frequented by those who would seek to intercept and interrupt your imbibing of adult beverages.

You know, it's nice to know that a few places don't change much. The idea that ANY bar or restaurant would still be around from my college days is almost too much to ask. A place like the Ptarmigan was really old even back then. Original home of the Flaming Dr. Pepper.

The Bean probably makes the best flaming Dr peppers in all the world.

Last year, we got kicked out after somebody in our group passed out in a booth. Much better sleeping arrangements than the flower beds at northgate imho

My best P-Tar story (and to be honest I didn't frequent the place that often, I was more of a Chicken Man) was the night of the 98 BIG XII Championship when we beat KState.

My buddy and I decided we would split one pitcher of Guinness for each quarter of the game. DAMN THING WENT INTO DOUBLE OT!!! and yes we did hit one each for the OTs as well.

P-Tar is greatness!

I spent many nights at the P-Tar in the late 90's. Haven't found a better flaming DP since. Current students better keep supporting it so it last for a few more decades.

Circa '98-'99. We hit P-Tar regularly. Great spot. Always more than a few inebriated SBs running around that joint.

Wow thanks for bringing back that blast from the past.......heard the same story so assume it was true. But that ban obviously didn't last long.......never had any trouble getting a FDP in there (87-90). Wasn't my favorite hangout (see handle), but a very cool change of pace to go hit every once in a while

I had completely pushed that place to the back shelf of my mind. Loved the dive places in bryan
