I said Texas played a better version of Arkansas than the team A&M played earlier in the year. That really isnt a stretch. Arkansas'
defense was vastly improved by years end and again the numbers make that
obvious so you dont have to take my word for it
This whole 'Arkansas was SOOOOO much better at the end of the year' crap is just that. They gave up 14 to Alabama and lost by 1 the week after losing to the Ags. Arkansas also lost 2 of their final 4 games including their last game of the year.
Their defense was a little better at the end of the year, but their offense was better at the beginning before their QB got dinged up. They were pretty much the same team all year.
Texas on the other hand, just wasn't any good ALL year.
Texas didn't play a "dinged up" QB
Arkansas FBS opponents average points per game first 5 weeks of the season: 30.5 PPG
Following a bye week after the A&M game, Arkansas' defense gave up an average of 15.0 PPG over their final 8 games of the season. Over the final 6 games of the season that average shrinks to 10.3 PPG. Over the final 4 games of the season that average shrinks to 7 PPG
The defense got a "little bit better?" GTFO
You're right Texas wasnt very good all year but then neither was A&M which is my point ITT when comparing these two coaches head to head in year 1 and year 3 of their respective programs.
If Texas wasn't any good how exactly then do you reconcile the fact that at similar points in the season Texas handled a common opponent that gave A&M a game? What label then would you put on Texas A&M's season?
