Allen is 5 miles north of Plano and about 25 miles north of Dallas.

Kyle Allen won the job. He's in Colleg Station. I know I know smartass. Seriously, though will the finals be televised? I haven't seen Kyler play other than YouTube highlights.

I think i read Desota was the team that would have the best shot at beating Allen, but all the other teams they beat getting to this final game were very good too

Yes Allen's stat that benefits them is about 5'11" & 180 lbs.

Went to Allen. "5 miles North of Plano" really means "directly next to Plano". Also, Allen decided to start making the playoffs right around the time I went to college ('96), but was an abyss of suckage prior to that.

Allen will be favored, and most expect a similar result to last years game against Pearland. Cy Ranch is definitely on a roll, their 2 losses were in the first 3 games of the season, but they have been far from dominant, didn't win their own district, and have faced a much easier playoff path. The one thing Cy Ranch has going for it is a strong running game and a potentially vulnerable Allen defense, so if they can play keep away from Kyler Murray and co. and force some turnovers they have a chance to keep it close into the 2nd half, similar to what FM Marcus did to Allen earlier this year, but they're going to need to score on every possession to keep up. However, even if they did manage to keep it close going into the 4th, still huge advantage to Allen.

This is very true. Cy-Fair has 10 6A high schools and are building an 11th. The biggest has a few over 3000. Some of those Plano schools are over 6000.

But regardless, I'm shocked that ranch has made it this far. Are there any guys on that team that big schools are recruiting?

Exactly. If Allen ever split and was a normal high school size they would be on par with everyone else.

Not to hijack the thread, but defensive end commit James Lockhart plays for Ennis Friday night at 8, also at Jurruh World, FWIW.

Never won a state title below the 5A classification.

Folks moved there in '77. Allen was 2A at the time, and moved to 3A the next season. Rival was Wylie HS. Allen could never get past area games in the playoffs. Moved up to 4A in either '84 or '85. Really stunk those first couple of years, losing to teams like Dallas Adamson, Dallas Madison, North Dallas High, etc. McKinney High became the rival. Got better, but could never get past the area round of the playoffs.

Moved to 5A in the late 90's. Stunk again. Plano schools became the rivals. Then became good. Really good. And here they are.

Its not just Allen.

HS football in general is just a bigger deal in DFW. Generally speaking there are better facilities, bigger crowds, more kids that play, bigger coaching staffs, better coaches pay, and a little more emphasis put on football in the metroplex.

All of this is my opinion. But I am a coach and have coached in both DFW and in the Houston area.

Pretty much nailed it... Strong program once Joe Martin brought his Garland High staff in early 2000's were perennial bridesmaid to South Lake Carrol until 2008 good team but getting knocked out by SLC on every one of their state title runs. Many think if it wasn't for SLC Allen would have won MANY more titles.
