He was expelled from the university. I don't know if he was ever allowed back to finish his degree, as I lost touch with him after he left.

I was on the 2nd deck, student side, so it happened right below where we were sitting. As I recall Greg Hood went running out with saber drawn.

Fred says SE corner, but I recall it was the NE corner. Cops or someone escorted Greg down the track in front of student section.

He got a lot of cheers but it did not end well for him. I'm pretty sure he got kicked out of school.

The video posted above helps fill in my memory.

Moral of the story. Never bring a male cheerleader to a sword fight.

He was suspended for the rest of the fall semester, but I recollect he was back in by spring -he was in my astronomy class in the spring of '82.

If he was Japanese and had any honor, he would have harakiri'd himself with his sabre after the game for that humiliating display of getting punked by a cheerleader and then overreacting. Good thing for him he was just some goober from the 'burbs. However, he still has to live with the fact that the only remarkable thing he's ever done in his life is embarrass himself so badly that people continue to recount the event decades later.

Btw, he was kicked out of the corps but only suspended from school for a semester or so.

My refreshed memory now cogitates it was in the NE corner and perhaps that was the first time they had spelled SMU right there in front of those ODs and our students.

I do think the part about Billy Cannon Jr. pulling him away is correct too.

BTHO SMU!!!!!!

Gig 'em, FAST FRED '65.

Before the world wide web, village idiots usually stayed in their own village.

Was there also. Cannon bear hugged Hill as previously posted.

Sorry, I meant Hood.

He was in my outfit. He was suspended for the rest of the semester and came back as a non-reg and finished his degree. I see him from time to time at outfit reunions. He's a very nice guy.

To add to the story, A&M was descended upon by state and national media not unlike what we have been seeing lately. Reporters were all over the Quad looking to interview cadets who knew him and to learn more about the Corps in general. He had to stay off campus and received invitations from the Tonight Show and other similar type shows and all were turned down.

I too was there. No doubt the north end of Kyle, it happened right in front of me. I also remember the first cheerleader grabbing Hood (sabre drawn) around the leg like a small child latching on to his daddy. The story on campus was that the SMU cheerleaders had been told that they were not allowed on the field, knowing their touchdown celebration involved spelling out their letters.

The saber was drawn as the cadet headed toward the cheerleaders. The advisor to the OD's the year before always told them "NEVER PULL YOUR SABER" before each game. The little idiot who was advisor during this period failed to instruct the OD's.

Not all of them have served and quite a few are idiots just like any organization. But quite a few have served and done great things. Quite a few have died serving. Some have performed heroic acts in their service. Guess there is not a shred or even a sliver of anything there to make you proud of those aggies or the organization that helped produce them. Hey not saying that some members haven't embarrassed the corps or the school because they have, but to say you are waiting on the corps to do something to make you proud, get over yourself.

Somebody must have more video of the beginning of that. I'd love to see it.

I was also there. Freshman year, we had 2nd deck seats, somewhere in the first 5 rows down on that end of the field - had a great view of the entire thing and I DESTINCTLY remember the part where one SMU cheerleader snuck up behind the corp guy on all fours and another cheerleader pushed him over him. What I don't remember is if he had the saber pulled at that time. The short video clip here only shows the very end of the altercation.

Shame on you. Here are 7 times when the Corps has made the entire nation proud: Carswell, Fowler, Harrell, Hughes, Keathley, Leonard, and Whiteley.

If that isn't enough for you, educate yourself on the history of the Memorial Student Center.

I was there as well. The short video clip here only shows the very end of the altercation and from what I remember nobody was happy with the SMU cheerleaders actions.

Then the OD went out and disrupted it and he was cheered and then things went south after that.

Not naming names or providing details, but I have plenty of friends who were cadets and are now highly decorated veterans. One of them is a true hero in every sense of the word for his actions stateside after surviving a mortar attack in Iraq that gravely wounded him. He was Esquire Magazine's Man of the Year 7-8 years ago.

Waiting on the moment when they make you proud?

Since that post was made at 1:09 am I am going to assume you were intoxicated when you typed that. No AGGIE would ever say that...PERIOD. There are countless "moments" that make me and any Aggie proud. Tell you what, buddy, would you say that to my best friend's 13 year old daughter and 15 year old son to their face? My roommate from the Corps and best friend, LTC Todd Clark, was KIA on June 8 this year after serving his FIFTH Tour during the War on Terror. During the FOURTH Tour he was critically injured by a roadside IED and spent months being put back together at Walter Reed only to freaking return for that FIFTH tour when asked to do so. He was scheduled to come home in late September/early October and would soon start his new post in the military science department at TAMU. While deployed we talked on Facebook daily about his excitement to get back to Aggieland and serve the Corps - he was excited about getting to go to all the games since he had missed them over they years because since graduating he spent over 10 solid years of time deployed.

He was the consummate friend, soldier and AGGIE. That post struck a freaking nerve with me. Don't you ever say something like that again. Especially a statement like that from an Aggie - do you not realize what a freaking tool you sound like? I wouldn't even hear something so stupid from my UT friends.

Sorry for vomiting on the page but that comment royally chapped my ass. His son is 15 and a sophomore in high school, hoping to get into A&M and follow his dad's footsteps. I spend a lot of time with him now and am picking him up in a bit because he wants to see my son's 12 year old football game. When I get him I guarantee he will be sporting his Manziel jersey, ready for the AGS to BTHO SMU. He doesn't have his dad to share those moments with because of the sacrifices his dad made...sacrifices a former Corps member made. Yet, that isn't good enough for you, Caz.

Embarrassing as it may be, I don't know why people keep saying he was punked. He was way outnumbered and every one of those guys were as big or bigger than he was. Believe it or don't, college level male cheerleaders are in decent shape, not wimpy little punks.

Johnny Carson had a skit on the Tonight Show making fun of this incident. I believe he came out brandishing a sword dressed like a cadet.
