Let me open with an appology for picture quality (namely the focus) Our good camera is at the parents house so these are from a small Cannon

I came in from the west on 21, turned off on 47 at Riverside Campus, down 60 by Easterwood, turned right onto West Campus on the road closest to Wellborn road (my attempt was to imitate driving to WCG and other tailgating places)

This is the first glimpse of the stadium coming in on this route (I know you prolly can see it further on FM50)

Crazy white guy, get a shot from 60 at Easterwood. I tried to get a pic from Wellborn and University but it didn't work well with the phone. It's impressive up close, but the scale is realized from a distance when you see it dwarf Rudder Tower.

Turning onto West Campus

loco - more pics of the south end zone second deck (inside or outside Kyle), if possible!

This is all I could get from inside (From westside north 10 yard line-ish)

After being inside we made a circle around the stadium

quote:
Crazy white guy, if you could get pics from the top floor of rudder or on top of the rec or while skydiving that would be so great

Best I could do

The wife pointed out a ,and I quote, "Major Black Eye for the Administration". they did not budget in new seating chart maps for outside the stadium

I do need to add that (as said before) the pics do not do it justice, the entire stadium is MASSIVE. when standing at the base of the east side the towering building is very intimidating. The screen is ridiculous, just hope it isn't a billboard. The statue is not going to look tacky, there is no way it will look too big with the new Kyle behind it.

Edit: also want to add that at first I didn't believe the figure someone gave about 700-800 workers on site. Now I think its possible, the site has people everywhere and is VERY loud (especially inside). As for the doubts about the SEZ looking like a rush job and cheap, I think not. Ya the backside isn't going to be nice brick but in person it already doesn't look bad and it will only get better as work progresses.

Tell your wife that she is a black eye on A&M for assuming everything is a done deal and they won't be replaced before they are actually needed.

I'd be happy to tell her but I think it would be better for you to tell her. I believe you would be the one leaving with a black eye, or 2.

Thanks, loco. I tried to take pics like you did but the distance ones just don't have the same effect as being there.

Love the pictures from inside the stadium. When the 12th man gets going, we will have the most intimidating stadium in the country in any sport.

Red paint is just the primer. Final product will be olive drab.

Just to clear the air here a little bit... the new howitzer was purchased because the existing canon is too loud of a gun to be fired in the renovated stadium and too quiet to be heard by those inside when fired from outside the stadium.

The issue at play, as it has been described on previous threads, is two fold:

1) There is no place to put the canon because the stadium walls now sit much closer to the field of play. On top of a tower doesn't work because the walls are 10' tall and feature concession areas in addition to standing room only areas for overflow capacity. It's not a viable alternate location, even if (as some have suggested) they cut out a portion of the brick and pointed it outwards.

2) The stadium was redesigned to trap and contain sound as fully as possible. The percussion caused from firing the canon in an enclosed stadium with canopies exceeds safe decibel levels. End of story. There is also a rumor that the large amount of new glass inside the stadium could not be insured if the canon were detonated inside repetitively, but I'll repeat that's just hearsay.

The old canon will still be involved in every activity that it presently is with the exception of firing after touchdowns. It will still be a part of march in, will still be pulled by PMC, and will be used to kick off other campus events. The new Howitzer is loud enough to be fully heard inside the stadium even with it being secured outside the stadium. IMO this is the best compromise to come out of the situation as the alternative was to either quit firing a canon or else significantly reduce the firing load and basically make it a pop gun.

We're getting an upgrade without sacrificing what we have.

We should have just designed the stadium to be a giant parabolic dish with sound focused at the 50 yard line.

A couple of photos from this weekend. Apologies in advance as they are not the best quality.

It's really coming together. The east facade is virtually done on the north half, and they've started expanding the NE pedestrian plaza work zone further down the east side.

Can't wait to see this screen on.

Can't wait to see these LIGHTS on. They're gonna be iconic.

One thing that I don't think has really been shown is just how close the SE tower is to the street. The gates are just a couple of yards away from the curb, which should really make tailgating along Houston St. in Spence much more intimate.

She's BIG. Notice the car in the foreground for scale and the extent of completion on the SWAT facade. The west side always seemed bigger than the east, and now the east just dominates the size of the old west...which when it's done will be bigger than the east is now.

Add a couple of trees and lamp posts and this thing is done.

The Zone facade will be under renovation in October/November.

Frankly I was worried that a larger than life statue would be too much for the plaza (plus a pedestal). But when it's surrounded by 25' live oaks and has the stadium in the background, it may end up being hidden. It will be shorter than the trees & flagpoles in the foreground. Some may argue, but I think it'll look great.

Bad angle here, but you can start to see the exterior siding and underbelly of the press box, as well as what will be a full length row of windows.

The louvers don't really stand out in person.

Another bad angle, but the facade work on the southern half of the east side is progressing rapidly. Notice the framing for the faux column facade.

More louvers will go here. So at least it'll be symmetric.

A little fun with photoshop. I had to do it for yuh.

Thanks for making my image work I don't really know what I did wrong.

Even though this is a pretty bad angle (best I could get) you can really tell just how shrunk down the field is. I'm glad there won't be as much unnecessary space surrounding the playing surface

Fitch was much better at articulating my biggest impression of seeing it in person: IT IS HUGE! (ya I know that's what she said)

It will be very intimidating and I believe once the cranes and man-lifts are all gone, you will really get a scale of how big it is (hard to tell on cams but those lifts they are using are much larger than normal so they kind of scale the structure down)

And I agree with Fitch's point about the statue, it will be big but everything around it will be bigger.

Can't wait for the season to start!!
