You can see on the cams they have started the outline of where the field will be! I think once that outline is done, it will give a great perspective as to how big the jumbotron actually is (for those of you who have only been able to see it on the cams).

It looks like a shaft wall. It's just metal studs and drywall, but it's usually used in places where you can only physically get to one side of the wall, such as an....elevator SHAFT.
My guess on the horizontal pieces is just something to screw to mount equipment on the inside. Or they just ran out of long pieces of sheetrock and wanted to use the scraps...

It's shaft wall; typically for elevator or stairwell shafts. It's like thick drywall that slides into grooves to achieve a certain fire rating. That's why you have the horizontal pieces filling in the gaps.
On another note, I realized yesterday that you can read the KYLE FIELD on top of the scoreboard from Wellborn road and Old College. That's how high that scoreboard is. It's amazing how big the place is when you look at the skyline from a distance, particularly 60 coming in from the west.

Crazy white guy, get a shot from 60 at Easterwood. I tried to get a pic from Wellborn and University but it didn't work well with the phone. It's impressive up close, but the scale is realized from a distance when you see it dwarf Rudder Tower.
