Long, long time ago, the Corps used to play a benefit football game called "Elephant Bowl". We were coached by volunteer Aggie players. We practiced for two weeks and got to use Aggie team practice equipment.
The game was played on a Sat. morning in early April at Kyle Field. They charged like 2 or 3 bucks to get in and all the money went to March of Dimes. We raised a few thousand dollars each year.
My senior year, it was the Band and Air Force as the maroon team and the Army and Marines as the white team.
We won that year, 7-2. We would have had a shoutout, but Dan Quinn punted the ball into our blocking back and the ball went backwards through the end zone for a safety! I played outside linebacker and actually got two sacks. Funny how that was one of the highlight of my Corps career.
So, when did they stop doing, "Elephant bowl??
