Didn't say I won't pull for him. Hell yes, I will. I said I want to pull for him AND feel like I could party with him. What's wrong with that? Just my opinion, and I stated is as such. Also said my opinion doesn't matter. I thought this was the internet and we could say whatever we want.

I just want to be able to pull for the guy and actually feel like he's a cool guy that I wouldn't mind partying with. I hate partying with d-bags.

Probably the worst explanation I have heard.

As long as you feel like he is a super-great guy, its ok!

So because of your insecurities with people you don't like, you think JFF should "tone down" his two pictures that folks are having issues with.

btw, who cares what internet commentators on sites like TMZ think anyways? They are probably angry that TMZ is putting something up that doesn't have to do with the real housewives or Kim K's future satan-baby.

That is completely fair. My thinking is just that since I am unlikely to ever party with him, I don't care that much if he is a jerk or a great guy.

Also completely fair. That thought crossed my mind too, and for the most part, that's how I feel about the people I chose to cheer for, but I guess it's a little different with Ags. I want to always read good things about the guys that leave here and stay in the public eye, whether they're actual articles or just comments on blog posts. Those guys will always be mentioned as representatives of A&M, and forgive me for wanting the perception to always be positive. I love Von because he represents A&M as well as anyone I've ever seen and I think if I ran into him he wouldn't make me hate him. I would like to think the same about Johnny.

And for those of you who say. "Aw, c'mon, let the 20 year old have his fun. He isn't breaking any laws," I'm sorry, but he signed off on all hope of anonymity and forfeited the right to putting himself at risk in the high court of public perception. And believe me, a lot of people would LOVE to see Johnny Football crash and burn. People love a train wreck. And they have their cameras in hand to immortalize the moment.

Slim, the problem with your statement here is that the two photos in question don't even begin to tell me "train wreck". Again, read this really slow: from all appearances and reports Johnny did absolutely nothing wrong this weekend. Someone took a picture of him partying (with his dad there) and with cash won legally gambling.

You may not like it because your morals tell you there is something wrong with it, but the fact of the matter is that there is nothing wrong with his activities in either photo because he did nothing illegal and nothing that isn't perfectly acceptable by the vast majority (and I mean vast majority) of our society. That's the deal. Something similar to his arrest this past summer when he was practically anonomous would indeed have me worried too if there was a similar or repeat performance. That's not the case here. Nothing to see here, move on. Johnny, I'm sure, is fine.

I didn't say anything was ok, or not ok. I said I would like to pull for him (as in, on the field) AND like him. I also don't like to read other people hating on him because of how they perceive him. Just an opinion. It's ok to have those. You have yours.

Who said anything about insecurities? I have a preference for the company that I keep and the people I defend in conversation. And we'll be defending Johnny in conversation for a few years against exactly this kind of thing. If someone were to say to me that Johnny is a d-bag that needs to quit partying, I would say, he's a college kid enjoying college and I don't hate him for that. I did it too. But I still won't necessarily disagree with the DB comment, because from what I can tell, he might be. I hope not, but that's the impression. Doesn't matter, just means I wouldn't enjoy his company.

We have an entire thread here of people who care one way or another. While I don't pay any attention to TMZ, I am aware of their influence, and they are apparently a popular source for "opinions".

I hate that Tebow made the Heisman a puritan award.

I want a wildly successful pro career for the kid. That requires an incredible dedication to the game. Top NFL QBs probably dedicate 300+ days to football or get left behind.

So he should party now while he can. Because 6 years from now, he'll be grinding through turf toes and sore backs between wildcard weekend and the divisional round.

I'd rather have a Brady instead a Tebow any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

One lives like a rock star while winning rings and the other, well, he tells you how devoted to his faith he is and...

Should have clarified...

Why do you care about peoples whose opinions don't matter.

Let me know when Loftin or Sumlin says something.

What a random internet user thinks of JFF (or A&M) does.not.matter. It isn't going to affect him or A&M.

Scattershooting while wondering how Jason Cook and the TAMU marketing & communications department feel about this publicity which has stretched across the pond to the United Kingdom.

Point is there are a lot of goons out there that would love to see Johnny take a big tumble. You know that. I know that. As you read his comments, it appears Johnny is coming around to know that.

At the end of the day, Manziel is just doing what young football phenoms do. He is enjoying life. Good for him. But all of this attention isn’t going away, and it would be great if he stopped doing the Taylor Swift who me? routine every single time a picture catches him in what may or may not be a questionable situation.

I know the truth won't matter to some, but at least TMZ updated to clarify, although with a ridiculous headline. It's what they do, I guess.

The relevant parts:

We spoke to the owner of Avenu Lounge, who confirms Johnny's mother WAS with him on both nights ... so he couldn't have broken any drinking laws. (UPDATE: We're told Johnny's father was there too).

Still, the owner says nobody working in the lounge that night ever saw Johnny consume alcohol either night.

In fact, the owner says the bottle of Dom belonged to another customer who had a table by the DJ booth ... and Johnny only used the bottle as a prop for some goofy photos.

The owner says Johnny never opened a tab at the bar.

FYI -- the parent loophole isn't just in Texas ... it's also in play in Connecticut, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nevada, Louisiana, New York and Ohio.

No harm, no foul.

This is almost a perfect illustration of what's wrong with all of this in the first place. It's that easy for a story to get twisted and facts get omitted and all of a sudden people jump to conclusions. I didn't say Johnny IS a d-bag, but I did say (some of) these pics kind of make him look like one (and I'm not nearly alone in that thought). But if the pics are just him goofing off for a camera, then it's kind of funny. I wasn't worried about legal issues or anything because I already saw that his parents were with him, but some people (especially non-Ags) clearly were concerned. Unfortunately, the pics get taken and posted to the web so fast (with ridiculous headlines, no less), people make up their minds about someone before all the facts are laid out. It would be better if people didn't have so much fuel to light fires about him. We don't know all the facts of Case McCoy's ordeal in San Antonio, but I bet a lot of folks have a pretty low opinion of him anyway (as a human being/possible criminal, not a sip qb). It's really not that big a stretch to see how easy it would be for Johnny's image to be publicly smeared, even if the story was completely false. First impressions are usually the ones that last. Not everyone will spend all day on message boards waiting to find the truth.

The papparzi's always going to finds something to twist in a negative light. I'd rather let the gossip girls have a little tidbit to finger wag at from time to time than to have the kid have to lock himself in a room without windows in between games.

--edited: sorry. put negative life when I meant negative light. I don't think Johnny's life is negative.

Johnny, by all means... have fun and celebrate, but be smart (and safe). Your days as a "normal" college kid ended when you won the Heisman trophy. Fairly or unfairly, you're going to be under the microscope from here on out.

Haters are going to hate regardless... Just don't give them any ammunition to shoot you down with!

This is probably total bull****, but I wanted to throw this out there instead of start a new thread: I knew someone who claimed that one of Manziel's fake IDs actually said "Johnny Football" on it (supposedly their friend was there and saw it). Probably as a joke, but maybe that's why he had two fakes, one that looked convincing and one that said Johnny Football to be funny? Again, no proof, but if its true, Im worried that JFF isnt all that bright.

Its gotten this far?

The kid can do what ever the hell he wants, we know. No one really has a problem with it.

But he's under a microscope right now. The media and alike are all looking for him to slip, even of there's nothing there. Just a few pics of him having some fun, is being spun around. this is what the majority of people have a problem with, like myself.

Im not that much older than he is, but I'm not in his shoes. He just needs to be careful, and I think that's what most are just trying to say.

I've asked several times already, who gives a crap if these type of stories are spinned about Johnny in a negative light? Will A&M or Johnny receive NCAA sanctions based off no rule or legal violations, just negative publicity? Will our recruiting suffer in the least because "johnny is having too much fun"?

Who on earth do you idiots think you are? Your opinion doesn't matter. He is a free adult who has parents. It's not your job to say what he should or should not do. Stop with lazy conventional wisdom that he has to be who everyone wants him to be because he won the Heisman and is a famous Aggie. Do you know how many ignorant slobs are using that same line right now? It's a freaking derp fest on this site.

You must be worried about how it reflects on YOU if he gets in trouble. You don't matter. Take care of your own image and your loser friends won't feel like they can own you with it if he does do something stupid. If you walk around puffing your chest about JFF's accomplishments only to be embarrassed if he fails, you sirs are losers.
