Why has the Locomotive Yell changed? When we used to Yell it back in the early 80's, we used to Whoop hard. Now, the students sound like they are roller coasting the Whoop, and it sounds more like wuuuuuuu.

Did they change it, or did it just morph in to this new sound? It was my favorite Yell, and it doesn't sound nearly as good with this new wuuuu in it. Just my observation.

Freshmen thing they're supposed to woo during the whoop. Thrown off by the old Whistle Yell, maybe.

My freshman year, I remember it starting off slower and gradually speeding up. Now, it seems like the first set of "rah rah rah rah T A M C" is slow, and then the next to are both much faster. Not sure what made the change, but the yells do change. For example, it is a recent thing to draw out the word "fight" in Farmers Fight.

Thanks 125. A couple of years ago, my brother and I were at a game and they were doing a Yell we had never heard before. The students would sort of woo back and forth. I was thinking maybe they took that to the Locomotive Yell, because that's what it sounded like. Anyway, I wish they would change it back.

I agree OP, this wuuuuu crap sounds stupid. It used to be a great way for upperclassmen to over exaggerate a Whoop.

But nothing trumps the ridiculousness of the "Hump it Ags!" being included as part of The Spirit by the student body the past few years. That is HORRIBLE!

If you are referring to the commercial, I am thinking that they inserted the stupid whistle sound from the aweful Whistle E yell they brought back a couple years ago. There is no way that is the whoop as it was done that night. I think it's crafty editing which made t worse instead of better.

Times change, yells evolve. I think they're still loud and they're still in sync, so what's the problem? Sorry if you feel your favorite childhood yell is being ruined or something...

With that said, the Spirit deserves to be respected and protected, and perhaps yelling hump it ags doesn't do this. So I'd be ok with ending that

Yank, if the yell had a derogatory word or was discriminating in some way, I can see why it would evolve or get changed. Changing a hard WHOOP! with a roller coastering "wuuuuu" doesn't fall in to that category.

Sorry, but I don't think it has the same impact as the old version, and that's what Yell's are all about.

Can the students talk/meet with the Yell Leaders and fix these things?

this is the yell leaders responsibility! what is the purpose of yell practice? If they are hearing or seeing something they don't like then they need to speak up.

yell leaders = dbag admin pawns almost exclusively and without exception.

As a new army Ag, I never say the "wuuu" part. And yes, TRAINS DON'T GO BOOM!!! Unfortunately, I think it's too late to switch this. The yell leaders would have to cut it out completely for 4 years then re-introduce it back to the old way. That or Fish Camp should be teaching things the right way and discourage any wuu-ing. Just my opinion.

Oh and BTHO FLORIDA!!!!!!!!!

I think the main reason for so much hate on fish camp is that it's gone from a good way to introduce these traditions to something that actively teaches kids the wrong things, e.g. uncover, yelling "hump it Ags" during the Spirit, etc.

First of all, the "keepers of the tradition" thing is crap. Sounds good for marketing purposes for the Corps, but in my day the real keepers of tradition were the red-ass Northside dorms. Not sure now adays with the destruction of all the great ones (excluding Law from that list of course) and the whusification of on campus life, but we all knew back then that the Corps stuck to their own crap most of the time.

I have wondered before if it's a tradition that the head yell leader makes a minor change in one yell every year to leave his "mark." It's always been my observation that it seemed like every year that was just ONE thing that was slightly different than the year before. Might be the pace of a yell, or how quickly they finish "Farmer's Fight" or something else. It's a tiny change from one year to the next but seems really big if you come back to campus after several years away.

I asked a few yell leader friends about it and they denied, but I still think it might be one of those unspoken, passed down things that they don't tell anyone else.

It's also totally plausible that there is just a natural drift in the way it happens over time, but it just seemed that some of the slight changes from year to year were more deliberate.

The last few years has somehow produced a new "WHOOP" after the first saw varsitys horns off verse of the War Hymn. The Hymn isn't over. Now, everyone stops swaying, "WHOOP"s, and misses the beginning of the last verse. Its sad.

and yes it sounds like a woooo, because freshman think they have a part in every other yell. Apparently freshman now think they wildcat on "reload" in the military yell, and after "saw varsity's horns off" in the war hymn.

F***** fish camp that can't teach ppl the correct way to yell!
