Most threads that get traction are people complaining about something. It's the same reason why you rarely see 'good' news on TV. Things that people are happy about don't tend to gain traction because, well, they are happy about it and don't feel the need to continually tell you how happy they are about it.

I simply do not understand this argument. Do you think we'd rather have a crappy football team as long as the logo is unbeveled? Of course not. We ALL want to win, but why not have a great looking logo while we do it?

Here is why I hate the Bevel:

When done wrong (like so many of our merchandisers do) it makes the aTm look awful and invisible from a distance.

Compare these 3 logos by standing back from your computer.

Which can you see the best...which can you see the worst?




THIS is why the bevel sucks vs the solid block. I can't stand it when things like ESPN use #1 as our logo and you can barely see it against the back ground.

I want a solid, BOLD aTm standing out for all to see whether its on TV or on a T-shirt or hat.

Ultimately it's up to you: vote with your wallet and don't buy anything with that first logo on it.

There's not a lot that you can do if your logo is basically an acronym. Blocked, beveled, shaded, striped, checkered, polka dotted, etc. Let's face it, we have a boring logo and we are just putting lipstick on a pig.

ATM is not an acronym. An acronym is pronounced as a word of its own like NASA or OSHA.

Those 90s nike logos look someone was trying to parody what a corporate suit would think looked cool.

Jason drawing conclusions because he only hears about it from Texags is flawed. Overall it's simply not that big of a deal where people are going to email or call about it. However Texags is the perfect forum for bringing the little details to light. Texags has enlightened many to the fact that A&M has a choice in what it uses, but has not consulted the fans as far as I can tell. Just based on my reading I would say the majority prefer the non-bevel.

we have painted ourselves into a corner here. There is very little creative way to work with a long name like Texas A&M.

To make matter worse, we have a nickname that is next to impossible to visually represent (what doe an "Aggie" look like) and a school mascot that that is unsellable as a sports mascot (men don't want to wear a sweet loveable female collie on their shirt).

So we are stuck with very few options for a logo.

My best recommendation is to look to another school in a similar situation to ours but has done a betetr job: the Tennessee Volunteers

So, drop the A&M and go back to the Block T for a state centric logo and get rid of the collie as a mascot and replace her with a male German Shepherd as was originally intended so instead of hiding our mascot in branding and only putting her on items meant for toddlers, we can put him on everything like UGA and Smokey are for their schools.

If they stick with the bevel, I would like to see the white lettering with the gray beveling. That way from a distance it looks like the non-beveled logo.

How about a white logo with a white bevel?

Would love to hear about the hard data that says people are indifferent enough about the bevel that we'll keep it.

Never noticed the bevel until TexAgs--have no problem with it at all--own stuff with both the bevel and non-bevel (and yes, the T-Star) and wear/display it proudly.

It's fun to watch TexAgs twist itself in knots over aesthetics though. Solid offseason fare.

I hate the bevel because it makes a clean nearly symmetrical logo look cluttered and lop-sided. From a marketing standpoint, that is the opposite of what you aim for.

Should have one logo, not multiple. Use the one on the helmets. The absolute most suckage ones are the script window decals.

How about an official coaches polo without the bevel? Or some nice Adidas basketball shorts without it? I'd actually spend the $45 or so on a pair of shorts if they didn't have the damn bevel on it.

Beveled is fine. Find something more important to worry about.

Marketing isn't exactly rocket science. I'll share with you what I know about marketing:

When a majority of your target audience would prefer one specific alternative logo (the unbeveled aTm) over the one you have been presenting for years, YOU HAVE FAILED AT MARKETING. TexAgs is a pretty good barometer of the opinions of Aggies.


On a completely different note, I have a question for Maroon Dawn. I'm pretty sure you used to be a T-Star fan with a T-Star in your signature pic. Now you've jumped on the anti-bevel crusade. Isn't the T-Star the ultimate in beveling? Did you just one day wake up and realize the error of your ways?
