Anyone teaching that uncover isn't a tradition should have been banned from fish camp. The fact that everyone knows what the term "Uncover!" means pretty much proves that it is, just like hump it, or pass it back.

It's a show of respect for your school and your country. Whether you agree with it or not, wearing your hat when uncover is called implies disrespect.

When I was there, pretty much the only people who didn't uncover were frat guys (who didn't even do the yells half the time either). If that's the group you want to link yourself with... Best of luck with that.

It is definitely uncool for people to go full tard and get hostile when some random guy won't uncover.. But I also don't think too highly of the random guy, either.

Actually, the reason everyone knows what "uncover" means is because people who take themselves too seriously scream their heads off at people during the games for something that is not a tradition and has never been a tradition.

What I find ironic is how, in a misguided attempt to prove how well they know and "respect" this schools traditions, the uncover nazi actually puts on a display that demonstrates how little they know about this school and what made it so great.

Can anybody over the age of 40 report if tradition when you were student? Because certainly wasn't when I went and I'm not burning my bald spot for bunch of idiots.

At one of my graduate student orientations this year, we were told that during yells you always uncover. That indicates to me that it is considered a tradition.

Is this any worse than the people who yell in a sing-songy voice "hump it Ags!" during The Spirit?

Irishag, the yell leaders also told us that saying *whistleeeeeeeee* is a tradition...they're trying to do good, but they're misguided.

Here's what I tell my 6 year old...worry about you, don't worry about the other people.

I told my girlfriend that friday nights are anal night. It's a tradition. Not sure she bought it.

Can anybody at least give a reason that anyone should remove their hat before a yell? Honoring the yell? Only reason I can think of is so it wont fall off when you bend forward. LOL

We have a number of rather strange traditions, but they are usually based on some logic.

The same reason you take it off during the national anthem, or in the MSC, or during a prayer. Show of respect for your school, your country, your faith, whatever.

I'm with Frankenstein. 89-93 we uncovered. But as I recall it was only the students who uncovered. Old Ags and visitors did as they pleased.

My Dad is class of '87 and says it wasn't there when he was there. Mom, aunt and uncle, etc concur. Not a tradition.

If it is to show respect to 'your school', then why wouldn't you uncover the entire time you are on the campus (like being in church)?

I graduated in '79 and never heard of having to take off hat during a yell. In all the years attending games as a former student on the west side, never heard of it. Not until my kids started attending A&M in 1999.

So we can argue forever if this is a real tradition or not, but who can claim that being friendly is not? Remember "Howdy" before cell phones? How in the hell is rudely yelling at a stranger wearing a hat during a yell in keeping with Aggie Tradition?

A guy wearing his hate during the national anthem is one thing, but during "Farmers Fight"?

IIRC, uncovering during yells was done in 2000. But people being dicks about it didn't really start until '02.

Consig, I didn't say that and I don't believe that. Someone asked why we uncover, and I answered that it was a show of respect. That's it.

I am not saying that the people who don't uncover are intending to show disrespect. Just pointing out that, to many, that is how they are being percieved.

You have no clue. Semi-old Army here (1976-1980) and I was at every home game for 5 seasons. Never heard the word uncover and I will not take a hat off because some new army punk says I should.

Oh - And my dad is class '54. Never heard of uncover.

Every year, I swear. If it's a tradition, it's a new one. Certainly wasn't in the 70's.

Take off your hat for the National Anthem and the Spirit.

Period. Not even the War Hymn. It's a fight song.

Respect for yells? I don't even know what that means.
