I've got to admit, this thread is pretty damn funny. Everyone is so passionate about both sides.
These are the things that are evolved by others talking and speaking like they are in the KNOW. These are the traditions etc. Do this, don't do that. Especially for those that weren't in the Corp. or attended Fish Camp. I transferred to A&M in 1992. I didn't experience Fish Camp, so I didn't "Learn" as people put it earlier in the thread, about everything A&M.
My learning was through attending games, going to school, listening and doing what other people were doing. Don't walk on the grass next to the MSC, take your hat off in the MSC. Don't walk on Kyle Field, uncover during yells, texas is tu, etc.
Now of course I realize that certain things aren't "Law" or tradition, but when you see a cadet at midnight yell run and tackle someone running across Kyle Field, it kind of justifies the rule, in your mind (since no one told you otherwise) that ......i guess that is something true. Same for uncover. I had no reason to think it wasn't something you should do. Everyone was doing it. It wasn't a big deal to me to just take my hat off for a minute, so i thought nothing of it. Like I said, its a hat, nothing else. SO no harm done right? These things are small and insignificant, and I think that is why so many people just assumed they were traditions.
I never got upset that a person didn't take their hat off at a game or midnight yell. Not everyone is outside of the 2% right? To each his own. Who cares.
Now it did disturb me when you had that person yelling like it was a sin to not uncover. I just took them as dumb. The yell was over by then anyway. Move on.
Now I know each person's college years were different. Different experiences. I just know that during my time which was from 91-96 that most people believed uncover was something you do. The same for not walking on Kyle Field.
Again, they are not traditions, which is fine. Just wanted to point out that each experience is different. But we need to respect people's opinions and if they are just fine with their hat on and not standing the whole game, its just as well. Let's just enjoy the game!
I'm more bothered these days at how damn fast the yells are. What the hell is the rush? Its starts to sound like a joke how fast they go through them....fight..fight..farmers, farmers fight. Is there a limit to how many yells we can do? Same for the band, we used to hear more band at games, now its just Slovacek Sausage ads all the time.
