Overall Texas A&M is just a good fit for the SEC.

I don't get it. The SEC appears to have the largest amount of cheating with respect to football recruiting. The conference appears rampant with it.

We don't cheat. This is readily apparent by looking at our own recruiting results. LSU looked like men compared to our boys in the Cotton Bowl. Is it the thought that if we do move to the SEC, that we will have to begin paying players so we can compete with LSU, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee and South Carolina? Or will we be the new Vanderbilt (albeit a more competitive version)?

I think we'd struggle in football in the SEC...unless we're ready to go to the cheatin' side of town. And I don't think that's on the agenda now, and for a long time to come. And I am OK with it.

It doesn't help that A&M gets players that Texas, Oklahoma, and sometimes LSU doesn't go after. Being in the SEC automatically gives a school a much bigger range in football recruiting due to conference prestige. That's why Florida pulled 5 star kids out of New York and California last year. Bama pulled a 5 start o-lineman and from Maryland and will be getting his 5-star brother this year. LSU pulled a 5-star runningback from Ohio State's backyard. It also helps that states like LA, MS, and AL rank at the top for the most NFL players produced per capita.

It's about this ---> $$$. and nothing else. You live in America, all other concerns, though important, take a back seat to $$$. tu understands this very well (see their new network). What are we doing/ can we do to increase revenue??? Start/participate in a new network? Nope, we passed that up. Join the SEC? option is available.

Also, the argument "just build a good athletic program and good things will come" is quite circular. Also, those claiming the SEC is dirty and corrupt have yet to justify those remarks in any way much less succeed in proving that it is actually the case when all conferences are compared equally.

Screw tu, later little 12/10.

Well, there's the rub. The NCAA has a very difficult time proving cheating is going on. No chance for any of us to 'prove' it if the NCAA struggles with it. The colleges involved are very good at hiding it. What was the asking price for Cam Newton in the SEC?...$200K? Was it Mississippi State that got outbid by Auburn? Circumstantial evidence is not conclusive proof...but I don't think anyone would say that the SEC is a 'clean' conference.

Again, we can at least take some satisfaction from knowing that we don't cheat. We can't be because all one has to do is look at our recruiting...it's painfully obvious. In the old days, when we did cheat, the players came...it had little to do with 'winning programs'...'money talks, bull**** walks'.

Gentlemen, every program in the Top 25 makes sure that certain players are "taken care of" ...

t.u. does, OU damn sure does. Wait until Texas has another $10M - $15M per year to play with ...

It's just that the S.E.C. is so darned creative about it ... Big Red Sports and Imports would have been passe in the S.E.C. ... they use casinos, shell companies, contract bid awards for parents, anonymous ATM cards, etc.

LMAO @ Don Corleone saying A&M doesn't have a big fan base. A&M enrollment = Vanderbilt + Arkansas + LSU. STFU and go back to Little Italy.

Those who want to go were the types of kids who would run to the older kids or mommy and daddy when being picked on by a bully rather than standing up to the bully yourselves.

So instead we wait around in this conference like a battered wife. Maybe if we gather the kids around us then daddy won't beat us as badly when he gets home from his latest drinking bout down at Club ESiPN.

Always good to see hyperbole rear it's ugly head on TexAgs. I don't think our senior leaders (Loftin, Byrne, etc.) see it your way and I suspect they know a heck of a lot more about the entire situation that about 99.999% of us on this website.

But keep up with the hyperbole...it's does have some amusement value.

Hey, SEC doesn't need Texas recruits! (see post)

In that case, give us back those 3 Terrance Tolliver TDs...he's from 30 miles away from Aggieland!

Where was the Bama NC QB from?

The person who made this STOOPID comment should really have a chat with LSU and Arkie, among others (entire SEC west, btw).

Some of you need to learn demographic reality.

OK RhodeAg- Enlighten us with your Rhode scholar wisdom. Exactly how are you so knowledgeable on the "truth" of this topic, yet we are fools in our opinion. It appears to me that, ironically, your self-aggrandizing posts are hyperbole in themselves.

thome, I am simply offering my own opinion. If my argument fails to sway you, that's fine.

In my humble opinion, many of the pro-SEC posters on these threads are giving their tacit approval to A&M using whatever means is necessary to start hauling in LSU-type recruits to College Station. They think if we go SEC, we will have to emulate the LSUs, Alabama's, etc. in their recruiting methods. Some posters here dance around the issue by saying that more wins or playing better competition will = better recruits. i believe that is faulty thinking. IMO, the only way we get LSU-level recruits is via $$$. It worked for Bear Bryant when he coached at A&M, it worked for other A&M coaches in the 1970s, and Jackie Sherrill did what he had to do to recruit top players. In the 70s, I I was a student. We had All-American players like Robert Jackson driving Cadillacs who had no visible means of support for such things.

Have not previously been accused of self-aggrandizement...hmm, this could be a new look for me.

I'm not trying to hijack the thread and you can say what you want about the man, but RC recruited top talent for years without resorting to cheating. It can be done...

Druish recruits are attracted to money and power. The SEC has both, and you know it!

You guys starting to get it now? They will always do what is right by them and never ever look out for anyone but themselves. A&M and OU should take the ball gag and collars off. Glad we got the hell away from Texas and their boo crap.

No worries, box. I considered it a timely reminder of tu's arrogance and inability to be a worthy conference affiliate.

And if anybody here gets mortally insulted by a sip halftime show from 20 years ago then they don't have any business being on TexAgs anyways...

Just a thought about this. I don't remember RC acquiring 'top talent' during his years. He did get Ty Warren, which was great but Ty happened to live next door to A&M, and we had that advantage. Who knows if Ty received any inducements? Can't imagine RC would countenance cheating in the recruiting area, so if it happened, he would not have been aware of it.

Otherwise, our talent level during his years was not in any way overpowering...not in the sense that we see today with tu, ou, and LSU. We were not a threat to win a national championship during RC's years.

Perhaps some other posters have a different perspective on the RC years with respect to recruiting.

And wouldn't it be nice to get another Ty Warren, or Sam Adams, or Ray Childress for our DL. It seems like forever since we've had a DT who required double-teaming by our opponents. The tu's, ou's, lsu's seem to get them each year without difficulty. We can only dream...

I really would like to see you guys in the SEC. Ark/A&M is a good rivalry. LSU/A&M could be a good renewed rivalry. You would be successful in the SEC. Maybe not in the beginning, but who would? You are certainly more SEC ready than we were when we got here. SCREW texas! Screw you guys too, just the week we play though.

The reading comprehension on this site is a complete joke. I didn't say A&M's fanbase is small, just that it's not large enough to compensate for two additional teams in the SEC. I didn't say the SEC doesn't need Texas recruits, just that attaining A&M wouldn't give them enough talent to justify adding two more teams. As far as the SEC considering A&M over the summer, they have to look at their options. Especially while rival conferences are expanding. Now that expansion has died down, they have no reason to expand.

I'm not trolling. When super-conferences eventually do form, my money will be on A&M going straight to the SEC. The fact of the matter, however, is that it won't happen until the Big 12 dies and the Pac 10, Big 10, and SEC become super-conferences.

It does A&M no good to whine about not moving to the SEC. You go to the SEC and your program will not become magically better. You want prestige? You want money? Focus on pushing for an elite coaching staff. Coaches who have proven themselves on the recruiting trail and on the field. Find someone who can salvage your program, string together ten win seasons, and bump up the rankings of your recruiting class. Focus on winning. Not on making the move to the SEC.

Again, I'm not trolling. Just trying to inject some reality into the whole "SEC! SEC! SEC!" situation.
