or is this football-related? Maybe I misunderstood.
It really is football related. I don't know if any recruits have mentioned it, but when you visit our campus, then visit OU, we are at a distinct disadvantage.
When I was a fish and all through undergrad and grad school from '78 to '85, the campus was very well manicured with attractive bedding plants and ground cover surrounding all the buildings, even the corps dorms on the north side. At that time, all the live oaks started dying, as they have continued to do( why do they keep re-planting live oaks?), but the landscaping was still very nice. No corner of campus was overlooked.
Then, about '89, and ever since- no more bedding plants, ground cover allowed to die, some areas of campus are never edged, and the live oaks continue to look like crap. I don't care what anyone says, it hurts our recruiting in EVERYTHING.Sure, architecturally it sucks, but it could at least look neat and well cared for.
