Did anyone see this article for this year? UTDallas is on there. Some ugly universities, but prestigious universities at the top of this list. so ugly does not necessarily mean bad.

Didn't read the article, but if they didn't include almost every University in Alaska something is wrong. After all, it's -40 half the year.

18. Texas A&M- There’s not much wrong this campus except for the lack of color. One poster said it’s essentially “BEIGE BEIGE everywhere…” I couldn’t agree more. And, um, “Aggieland”??? Not exactly an appealing phrase, is it? And on their website, they have an extremely strange lack of pictures of their buildings. Just keep adding fuel to my fire, Texas A&M. Knock yourselves out.

i just hope our university will see this and do something about it. Not a good list to be on, and the author says this annual list is made in order to force improvement for college students.

...that list is so useless...I'd hope that no one with a brain picks a school based on aesthetics...and the A&M, though no Xanadu, is just big and flat...never for a second, while a student there did I think to myself...gee I wish it were prettier here...did you? If you answered yes, your major was entirely too easy!

A&M is trapped in ugly 70's architecture/brick. Not much we can do about it at this point.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder... something like that.

Who cares?

I'm glad I didn't base my decision on "beauty".. sure is a pretty campus, I think I've made my decision.

Does that mean I'm locked into beige and the 70's if the Campus was one of the big reasons I chose to come to A&M?

Ridiculous. UC-San Diego is on there. It's basically in La Jolla, with the ocean on one side, Torrey Pines to the South, and world-class architecture on campus. That list just was rendered moot by its inclusion.

I have to admit, I think our campus is ugly as sin. Maybe its because I was often on SMUs campus while growing up because my mother works there.

There is nothing tying any of our buildings together. We'll have some greco-style buildings next to some modern, windowless monstrosity. I just wish our campus could be consistent in the style of architecture. These random styles we have next to each other make absolutely no sense.

It is true.
Our campus is not that aesthetically pleasant and we have the least amount of attractive girls in the Big 12.

However, we have the most classy fans!

Should have been labeled as the authors "Critique of College Buildings".

Amherst is a beautiful campus. The buildings at IIT were designed by one of the most famous architects to ever live.

Ridiculous critique.

However, A&M architecture does leave something to be desired. We have the money and resources to have a more attractive campus. Why we dont I have no idea.

Have any of you thought the "Theme", if you will, is Military as it was founded upon?

Oh, and, YES it is a stupid topic. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". A&M is BEAUTIFUL!

Without the bad two BTHO psu!

If you refer to the forty acres as anything other than tu or 'sips, you are not an AGGIE!

Look at the building since the 70's, they are even worse.

i think our campus is amazing! One of my favorite views of anything is driving along Texas Ave and getting to see the view of the entire "city" of A&M.... it is amazing! And some of these new buildings are really breathtaking. That new Chemistry building going up by simpson drill field is unbelievable! Not only is it huge but the design is awesome and it will look really cool with all the glass.

So beauty is in the eye of the beholder..... it is like asking a guy which who is prettier, a beautiful blonde or a beautiful brunette... they are both beautiful but some people will like the blond and some people will like the brunette..... Well A&M is a beautiful brunette and I like her even though some people would rather have a blonde... lol

i remember when they were putting up the building on university around 03 or so. had a ton of potential until they got off with the beige brick.

But the main problem is we have to match the ugly brick throughout.

Would look much nicer in a red brick.

I love our campus but it really is not very beautiful. I wish they would take some of the money we give and use it to make the campus more attractive.

It really is football related. I don't know if any recruits have mentioned it, but when you visit our campus, then visit OU, we are at a distinct disadvantage.

When I was a fish and all through undergrad and grad school from '78 to '85, the campus was very well manicured with attractive bedding plants and ground cover surrounding all the buildings, even the corps dorms on the north side. At that time, all the live oaks started dying, as they have continued to do( why do they keep re-planting live oaks?), but the landscaping was still very nice. No corner of campus was overlooked.

Then, about '89, and ever since- no more bedding plants, ground cover allowed to die, some areas of campus are never edged, and the live oaks continue to look like crap. I don't care what anyone says, it hurts our recruiting in EVERYTHING.Sure, architecturally it sucks, but it could at least look neat and well cared for.

None of our buildings match, so why do we have to match anything any ways.

I think all the trees are the only thing that really saves our campus. Most are right about our 70s buldings, but we are improving. Now that we have the Zone, Jack E Brown, that new physics building to go along with older buildings like the Academic our 'look' is starting to improve. The new MSC should also give us a much needed face lift.

Fair enough question, but that has been the chosen route by campus planners.

Our new buildings don't fit with our old ones at all:

Agree that the architecture leaves something to be desired, but the beautiful trees help out alot. Who else has a century tree like ours? The groundskeeping and upkeep are impeccable and make it more aesthetically pleasing than some rival universities in-state that have more trash strewn about.

As for the "Best List", I wasn't too impressed. I think UVa and UWisconsin should be on there, and perhaps Vanderbilt and UNC. Personally, the most beautiful campus I've ever seen is Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, nestled into the foothills of the Appalachians. Gorgeous.

As for the worst, I tend to find most of the coastal Florida schools hideous. That's largely due to the fact that they're built to be hurricane-resistant and not aesthetics. Still, they're unattractive.

I think the new buildings fit in just fine.... the new buildings use the same brick as much of the other campus so the new buildings blend in.... but then they chane up some of the arcitechture and add some nice glass everywhere..... so the new buildings look nice and modern, but yet they are not entirely different (ie the brick color) so they still fit in with the rest of the campus.
