I didn't think it was. I was just wondering if it were feasible based upon your thinking it was weird that the USS Wisconsin was moored in Norfolk.
I think the USS Batfish being in Oklahoma is odder.

Yep, its great to see her in the water again. There is still quite a bit of work to be done to the topsides (months in fact) before it moves to its new home which is assumed to be Pier 21 (though not officially announced yet).

The foundation's facebook page really is a great source for the latest on what is going on.

FAQ from the FB page

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
WHAT'S NEXT? - Battleship Texas will remain at Gulf Copper Shipyard for the time being. Additional steel work, removal and replacement of the ship's deck, and superstructure/aft fire control restoration will continue.
SPLASH! - The ship will be put back into the water in mid to late February 2024.
KEEL BLOCKS - Yes, the keel blocks supporting Battleship Texas can be moved. Each block is moved so the area atop of them can be blasted, repaired (if need be), and coated.
WHAT ABOUT THE RUDDER? - The rudder will remain where it is. Funding is best spent elsewhere.
WILL THE SHIP RUN AGAIN? - No, the ship will never be able to run under its own power again.
TOURING? - The Battleship Texas Foundation is working on new touring opportunities before the ship reopens.
REOPENING? - There is a lot to be done before the ship is ready for touring at its new home in Galveston, Texas. Reopening is projected to happen sometime in 2025 or 2026.

Nazi Uboat inside a museum in Chicago is odd. Cool story though, from capture to moving it to its current location

We took the guided tour of the U-Boat back in the summer of 2014. Very interesting. They also had some "hands on" interactive exhibits there (maintaining buoyancy, operating the dive planes).

Early this week this video regarding the U-505 happened to pop up in my YouTube feed. An entertaining take on the subject.

The Batfish actually got refloated a couple of years ago - when the park where it lives flooded. Some damage done, which they're still working on fixing. The IG feed Haze Gray History had some posts on it recently.

The destination has been announced, Travis and hunter both have made it very clear where it's headed.

Forgive me if I'm posting a link that's already in the previous pages of this thread, but while poking around the Library of Congress archive, I found this very cool photo:

It says date/location unknown, but the photographer was George Grantham Bain. So I searched for him and the Battleship Texas, and found this great photo archive with pictures from the construction, commissioning, and on, from 1911-1914:

I'm sure it's been posted before (possibly even by me), but if you haven't seen it, or forget things like I do, enjoy.

Well, apparently the deal has been killed for the time being.

Also looks like that peckerhead owner of Katie's has been causing a huge stink as well.

Bump. Not really related, but worth a laugh with the sound track as to WW2 naval history.

Got a note that negotiations for permanent Galveston berth are back on

The berthing location argument continues.

"Victor Pierson, the trustees' board chairman, described earlier talks, which broke down in October, about the battleship's future in Galveston as water torture. "Drip, drip, drip, we didn't make much progress," he said. Rodger Rees, the port director, said last week that the length of the proposed lease with the port was a main sticking point. Concerned about the foundation's long-term financial stability, trustees pushed for a 10-year lease with an option to renew. The foundation favored a term closer to 40 or 50 years. He added that there are five locations in the trustees' port area that could berth Texas. "To me, we haven't done due diligence with any of the options," Yarborough said."

On November 7th, 1942, TF 34 neared the coast of French Morocco and split into four groups for the invasion. Under the command of Captain Roy Pfaff, Battleship Texas was the flagship for Rear Admiral Monroe Kelly and the Northern Attack Group

Operation TORCH was about to begin

Good. It's the only logical location, really.

My great uncle, Martin Robinson from Houston TX was a 17 year old landing craft driver in the US Navy for Torch. He lied about his age to enlist. He was then sent to the Pacific and drove Marines onto the beaches at Iwo Jima and Army soldiers at Okinawa. His GQ station was a machine gun during the relentless kamikaze attacks. After tthe war ended he was assigned to a scientific reconnaissance team that surveyed what remained of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He wasn't 21 yet.

The things those men saw.

Humorous take. Not a real big update at all, but I thought some might find it interesting.

Minor find as to some searchlight mounts he'd filmed on the shore a ways back.
