I need to lose some weight and get back into shape. My plan was to just watch what I eat and get back into running.

I have a few coworkers who lost a good amount of weight following a program called Optavia. I asked them what they were doing. When I looked this up it seems to have mixed reviews.

Thoughts?

I think that your first plan sounds like a winner. Throw in some regular strength training along with that. Tried and true.

Optavia is basically a keto style plan where you eat their food and have one meal a day on your own. That meal is a lean protein and leafy vegetable.

It seems to work pretty well. If you are exercising, not sure the calories provided will be sufficient to satisfy you.

I tell people all the time - wanna shake a few pounds but your not real obese. Cut out (1) sugar and (2) beer for some defined period of time - try one month. You'll be shocked how well just that one change works.

Optavia is just another version of significant calorie restriction so of course it works if you stick too it. At least In the short term until you go back to a normal caloric intake.

It's also overpriced multi-level marketing crap.

This. Try intermittent fasting instead. It's free and there are significant health benefits to boot.

Thanks for all the feedback Ags. Both coworkers have lost a significant amount of weight, but I have concerns whether or not it is sustainable. Going to cut out some things and get back to regular exercise. Appreciate it.

I'll look into the fasting as well. Thanks.

Okay Ags, an update...I did end up trying Optavia. I'm a woman of a certain age and as I have gotten older weight has been more difficult to keep off. Lost 65 pounds since September. Think getting into the habit of meal prep as well as weighing and measuring has helped me alot. Eating every 2 to 3 hours and I am not hungry. Anyway, to anybody who has struggled - this really worked for me.

On the 5&1 plan they advise you to not do too much in terms of exercise due to the limited calories you are taking in. When I transition I will begin strength training and work my way back up to running.

I have been able to get off of a number of medications as well.

Ready to take my life back!

Best of luck to others who are adopting healthier lifestyles in 2020.

Day 97......60 pounds lost.

Very pleased with the process. Would be kind of fun to have a little vodka on day 100 just to see its impact after 100 days of just water and black coffee to drink. I'm sure I won't though just so I can continue to say "water and coffee only."

Anyone who comes across this thread and is considering this process for quick weight loss don't hesitate to PM me to let me know how to contact you....I'd be happy to share my experience/thoughts which of course are positive.

I have a few friends that are doing this and one has lost about 70 lbs in the last 4 months and his wife has lost about 20 and another woman I know has lost about 35.

I started a week ago but I was looking at the food and I thought that it was a crap load of money for stuff that I could probably just buy myself.

I'm eating the premiere protein bars from Costco and drinking the premiere protein shakes...I'll throw in a Kashi soft bar every now and then. I'm not nearly as hungry as I thought I'd be.

I'd like to lose 30-35lbs.

My daily caloric intake seems to be around 985-1100. I'm walking briskly 2/3 days a week for about an hour and running 3/4 days for about an hour.

Do you see anything wrong with my approach (using these bars as opposed to buying their food)?

I don't know what your height and weight is right now, but just about anybody is going to lose weight at 1100 calories. That is pretty low. I'm a small person and I can just barely function if I get below 1200.
