so I learned that you can do peloton treadmill runs on your phone and close the app without it shutting off.

Makes it so much easier to do runs outside and opens up a much larger catalogue than what is currently available.

I do this frequently. I've done most of the outdoor runsi want so so now I do regular runs outside

Looks like Tannehill is leading Team Activate tomorrow.

Has anyone tried the Peloton boxing classes? Do you need any gear or is it just air?
I tried one a few days ago. No gear or equipment required (at least for the one I did). It was OK, but not sure I'll do one again. It didn't feel like much of a workout, but that could have just been the instructor or the specific class I did.

What the hell? Tannehill doesn't ride under the #TexasAggie tag? Think I'm more offended by that than when Michael Bennett used to give his high school instead of A&M during SNF.

I gave him a high five on a ride a few weeks ago. No response. I was a bit crestfallen and melancholy.

Please happen. Save this company.

Let me watch prime, YouTube, etc on my peloton

Allow me to peddle through 11 am games during college football season.

It's so frustrating that a feature that should essentially be free, is kept from their customers despite being one of the most expensive products out. Add in a set series of 'TV classes' that can overlay on any android streaming app. It's not difficult.

I'm just hoping from whoever buys them that we will see some movement on the long fabled rower.

Just put a TV in front of your Peloton. I ride during 90 minute soccer games all the time

Right. But the point is this is dumb. You shouldn't have to. All the technology is there to have pip with Netflix or sports. Just like all the technology is there to let people build their own custom rides. This is where peloton is missing, imo. Being someone in multiple triathlon groups, I know lots of people who won't get a peloton for this reason, they'd also jump on a peloton if you could pair with zwift or other training platforms out there.

Peloton has already corned their target market. They could easily expand to a new market if they weren't so stubborn. Not everyone who wants a bike wants a class….. you could still charge monthly memberships for access to these features

Plenty of instructions on the web on how to watch other content on the peloton screen.

Why are y'all giving me other options on something that should be included from the factory.

I'm competent enough to know there is work arounds. My whole point is it shouldn't be that way

I'd argue that if you are looking to watch TV and spin your legs, the peloton isn't the platform for you. Just buy a cheap spin bike and a TV. Or get a trainer for the bike.

Peloton views itself as a content company, so letting people access other non-peloton content isn't in their interest. You don't have to like it.

Actually I'm looking to do both. That's what we're discussing.

Anyway. Anyone feel they've been light on 45 minutes content lately?

And that's where I'd argue peloton is missing the boat. I agree with what you said 100%. Thing is, they've basically covered that market. Sure they're still going to sell some as people upgrade from cheaper bikes, have kids so want a peloton to replace gym classes, etc. But they could easily add some of these features and increase their market segment without diluting their content, imo.

They are definitely missing the boat trying to rely only on content. There will always be another spinning instructor people like better, and all it will take is for one of the other platforms to hire away a Wilpers or one of the other popular instructors. The biggest argument I see is people saying "my wife wants a peloton for the spinning classes, but I would rather compete on Zwift." If they could combine the ability to both on one platform, everybody would want one.

What Peloton doesn't want is you ride with Wilpers only, someone hires him away, you cancel your $40 membership and do his rides with the new company on the Peloton bike. They want you to be in on paying them $40 a month and not make it easy for you to use the bike with some other content provider. That sub is what makes them money.
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Exactly. They are making their money on the subscription, not the bikes. However, if you buy their expensive bike and only have access to their content, riders are way less likely to bail if an instructor goes to another platform. They will find someone else to do peloton classes with, they aren't going to pony up for another expensive bike to follow wilpers.

And while it would be cool to be able to use zwift on the peloton, most people using zwift are not going to ditch their bike and trainer setup to ride the peloton.
htxag09
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Correct. But they're still alienating a segment of potential users.

Wilpers is a good example. As it stands now, if he left, I'd probably join whatever platform he went to. I've tried various other instructors and just don't enjoy any other classes and structure as much. Hell, I'd potentially just sell the bike and go back to my trainer.

Now if I could create my own ride (have a 10 minute zone 2 warm up, then do different length and different zone intervals, and just have a chart on the screen showing where I am in my workout, then on half the screen or whatever Netflix, I'd stay with peloton 100% and do that. I'd probably mix in new instructor rides, as I do now, to try and find one I liked. Again, id pay the membership for this functionality.

I guarantee you the margins and net revenue are higher on a recurring subscription vs a single bike sale.

I get that, I wasn't saying they're making more money on bike sales than the subscription. My point is they aren't making money at all right now. They're losing money. Yes, there's many reasons for that, including the tread recall and shipping costs. But they're also doubling the marketing budget as well as seeing increasing costs to run their platforms (instructors, djs, music licenses, etc.).

I'd love a Ride Builder too, would be cool if you could share rides you programmed with the peloton community and see who builds a following for their good programming.

If they built it with a community focus I could see that strengthening their grip on their subscribers. Would encourage people to get the Bike+ also, purely for the auto-resistance changes (I didn't think I'd care about that but man is it convenient).

And it's essentially free for them. Yes, some programming, but not a lot compared to now. Also, no expensive instructors, music licensing fees, etc.

I mean how much did it cost them for their taylor swift rides?!?!

I'd go nuts with a custom ride builder

The discussion above is what is wrong with peloton. So many good ideas, and yet the only thing we've gotten in the last year is sessions... And finally a freaking pause feature

A ride builder would be sweet; with the friends ride you could build the ride and everyone ride together as a competition... would be really cool

Just got this email:

Quote:

Fellow Members,

There's been quite a bit of news about Peloton in recent weeks, and through it all, you have stood with us. Thank you for all your support and encouragement! This year marks Peloton's 10 year anniversary. My co-founders and I brought to life the concept of recreating the energy and benefits of a studio fitness class in the home to make getting healthy and staying healthy more achievable for more people. And together with you, we have built this incredible community from five people to 6.6 Million people, of all stages, ages, and backgrounds, leading healthier, happier lives. I remain inspired by you and your stories. Our north star has always been and will always be improving the lives of our Members. Your experience is what matters most and this is why we are making some changes to position Peloton for continued success the next 10 years and beyond.

Effective today, I will be moving into a new role as Executive Chair, and Barry McCarthy will be joining Peloton as CEO & President to lead the company. Barry is an incredible leader with a proven track record of working with founders to scale world-class businesses like Spotify and Netflix. In addition to the senior executive roles he has held at some of the world's most successful media and entertainment brands, Barry has served as an advisor and board member at public and private technology companies. This appointment is the culmination of a months-long succession plan that I've been working on with our Board of Directors, and we are thrilled to have found in Barry the perfect leader for the next chapter of Peloton.

I care deeply about Peloton our community, our team, and our ability to continue to motivate and inspire you through our world-class instructors and deep library of classes across fitness disciplines. And, because operating with a Members-first approach is one of our core values, I want to assure you that the changes that we're making at the company across our operations will not impact our instructor roster, number of classes produced, or range of class modalities.

I still believe as strongly in this brand and in connected fitness as I did on Day One. But in order for us to continue to deliver the best possible member experience and lead us into the future, I need to hand the day-to-day reins of running the business to a seasoned and gifted executive who has helped transform and grow some of the world's best streaming media companies first in video, then in music, now in connected fitness.

I'm so excited to partner with Barry and for you to see what he brings to this brand and community. Please join me in welcoming him to the Peloton team. And I hope to see you on the leaderboard soon!

Not sure; it could be seen as preparation for a larger media takeover and using this guys experience with scaling to migrate into a larger platform held by a new buyer.

Or since NetFlix and Spotify scaled on their own (I believe neither are subsidiaries of another larger corp) could be a move to stay independent of large interested buyers like Amazon

It puts what Peloton is best at on center stage: they create streaming content. Outsource everything else.
